I spent a LOT of money on this huge lot of UNTESTED 3DS consoles and games from Goodwill... let's hope some of them work! Its mostly parents selling their childrens childhoods.
Thats why retro consoles are so popular. All our crazy parents threw OUR stuff away and now we have to buy them again.
I think my favorite part is all the different cases. Really shows how much variety there was and makes each system feel more personal

another thing you should incorporate in each DS test is holding START or SELECT while powering on the DS. this will either reveal the godmode9 or LUMA menu if the DS happens to be jailbroken on Custom Firmware.

Edit: this could also be a reason for the random empty folders. Some of my homebrew apps in folders are not there when I launch my DS without the SD card but the folders remain

Or when boot into the home menu you can press L+down+select to open the rosalina menu as a test, ive never experienced a situation where someone changed the default button combo so its pretty surefire

I love the 3D effect, but the OG 3DS and XL had to be held in a very specific manner or it wouldn't work right. The improved eye tracking on the New models was a godsend. Still drains the battery very quick, so I only use it sparingly, though.
I usually have 3d off but sometimes I just wonder what something would look like in 3d so I like having the option
these kids parents are gonna hate them when they end up wanting their 3ds but their parents sold/gave it to goodwill
The little metallic plates on each side of the charging port connects to the 3ds dock and allow it to take a charge, you could try that or just replace the port, its pretty straight forward.

One thing to note on the charging ports. Invest in a charging cradle since the use the golden contacts beside the ports to charge. Good workaround until you can replace the actual port
I would play my 3DS in 2D mostly, but I did at least try the 3D in every game I played just to see how it looked. Some games were better than others
There's some awesome homebrew now that lets you change the 3d intensity in each game to really tune it to your preference. Its super easy to do and if you preferred the 3ds in majoras mask or ocarina of time respectively you can change the other to match :)
Okay so little heads up regarding testing DS games specifically, I've modded a 3ds in the past before and messed up DS mode specifically in a way that caused touch screen inputs to just not work at all specifically on DS games, I've only ever had it happen that one time but it is something I thought I should mention here as something to test

I think it’s cool, but it just feels like an extra level of effort to process what I’m seeing lol especially with the original 3ds where you had to keep very still in order to see the 3d perfectly

i noticed that before i got my glasses i hated the 3d affect it looked horrible just looked like puke but now that i have my glasses i love the effect i think my eyesight affected it
So years ago, I had a special edition Zelda link between worlds and it had 3D and I used it sometimes. Well about 4 years ago, I bought a NEW 2 DS XL and I like it way better because I prefer the 2D gaming too
I remember the 3D effect would cut into the battery life a lot on these things. I had the original 3DS for a while. I now have one of those black and blue 2DSXLs, don't have access to that 3D feature but eh oh well lol.
yeah the 3D feature was really more of a gimick than anything. Cool idea to try out here and there but definitely not needed to get the most value out of the console
You are correct, the 3d has to essentially drive twice the pixels on the top screen so it drains tbe battery a fair bit faster

The one with broken port can be charged with cradle. It uses two metal pieces on the back instead of port.

I just bought an OG 3ds at my pawnshop for only 60$ along with a wii for 30$ great deals for both of the systems I’m glad was able to buy them definitely worth it 👍

The new 3ds xl probably has cfw on it. Try removing the sd card and try to turn it on, that could possibly solve the issue
Id recommend testing with start or select when booting or load the sd card with the respective file structure to see if it boots loads the cfw or check the firmware version in settings
The way Animal Crossing New Leaf was the most played game from 2015 - 2020 on my 3DS XL like I used to play it for hours. I wish I could see the stats for my old 3DS but I dropped that one too many times and then after the final time, a specific part that is responsible for the console to turn went missing and it‘s the fact that it still has some charge which means if it would be prepared I could use it again
The new 3ds at 8:05, my guess would be that you would have to replace the screens, the screens could have been wiped with water and the water could have damaged the screens

With the new nintendo 3ds however they improved the 3d system drastically so the 3d is better and drastically reduces the headache side effect if i remember correctly
@@derpdude32 Yeah 100%. I have the original 3DS and I rarely use the 3D function because it's so janky. My new 3DSxl though works fine. I still don't use it all the time but I'm way more inclined to use it on the new systems. They really perfected it by then
You should check if any of the 3ds are in the ambassador program (3ds' bought before the price cut) those are worth a lot more than normal ones

Almost got a complete 3DS Pokémon game collection from this. How lucky depending on how much you spent on this lot.
For the 3DS that wouldn’t turn on (haven’t ontinued watching so idk if you fixed), I personally just turned it off and on over and over and it fixed. It seems to be called the “blue light black screen of death”

if you plan on doing many more ds videos it might be worth looking into one of those 3ds charging docks so you can charge systems up to test even if their charging port is bricked
I actually have the silver luigi 30th anniversary 3ds xl and im 2018 it broke bc the inside of the charging port just came off. I was only able to fix it by taking it apart and recharging the battery itself. It's my dream to get it professionally fixed so it's nice to see it here.

so I have no knowledge of those 3DS games, but lego chima franchise was such a nostalgia hit on me.
If you go to the activity log and click software library you can see every game they played, how long they played, and the last time they played the game.
Yeah I just can’t do it all in one video or it would be an hour or longer lol

at 12:52 in the corner of the wall in the video you can see a base station. a base station is used to track you in VR. just by looking at it it looks like a 2.0 because its a bit more round probably belonging to a valve index or htc vive pro 2. idk y im commenting this but as a vr gamer its cool to see

Fun fact: the way that the 3ds does 3d is by showing a different image to each eye. I forgot what the word was but it also means you can cancel out the 3d effect by closing one eye.
I prefer 3D 100% of the time. The extra layer of immersion is always appreciated.
I'm sure the New 3DS XL has been fixed or sold by this point, but I bought a regular New 3DS with the same issue and wound up having to put a new motherboard in. Not sure what was bad on the old one, but I accidentally damaged a SMALL cable socket during reassembly, so I just replaced the board. Worked good as new after that
Probably a modded system that someone ended up bricking, used to happen a lot more with older mods.
most likely that new 3ds with the dead screens was bricked while doing something with homebrew because as you said you tried a few things and nothing worked. so most likely, if it's not hardware it's software

The black screen thing happened to my 3ds but I fixed it where I forgot what buttons but you hold some buttons down until the screen turns on and if that does not work you can try charging it at the same time it worked for me.
With the new 3ds xl that was showing a black screen, that was a BSoD (Black Screen of Death), just so you know :)
Had a similar issue with the black screen. Cant remember exactly which cable it was but one of the connectors just had to be removed and reseated. Sounds like a strange fix but it actually did the trick for me on a New 3DS XL

Another theory of the time being off is because of the time bomb on the r4 cards you can set your date back and keep playing it without reflashing a different firmware

The backdated 3DS are probably so they could get more coins. You could only get 10 coins per day, and it was a coin per one thousand steps. But if you changed the date, you could get as many coins as you wanted. I used to backdate/future date my 3DS when I knew I'd be walking alot so I could get more coins. I think I future dated more often than back date cause if I did games/photos it would show I played when I actually didn't. But future dating I'd probably play on that date or still have the 3DS.
Which to this day I still have my 3DS even past the dates I'd go to. (Which would just be forwarding the year of whatever day I was out on.)
The 3ds XL has the BSoD (black screen of death) the DS XL must of been really badly taken care of, that’s sad 13:49

Dang ur lucky, my local goodwills and other thrift stores don’t sell any consoles and when they do they know the price and sell them for the same price I could buy a almost brand new one on eBay

It's crazy how low people's steps are. Mine is well over 220,000 on my n3dsxl. Unfortunately, my o3ds broke so I can't see my steps from 2013-2015.

Very confusing thing happened to me, I have a 2DS XL , a blue one like the one you have in this video. I hadn’t touched it or turned it on in over a year and a half. I went to boot it up and it was dead so I left it on the charger for about an hour and tried again, and both screens like the issue you had on the 3DS wasn’t turning on. The power light indicated it was on and charged, and the backlight even appeared to be on but it was just black. I figured since I had home brewed it, and hadn’t touched it in a while it somehow broke. Fast forward like 3-4 months and I tried turning it on again for the hell of it….and it now works flawlessly. I have no idea what the issue was but hey it’s back to life 😂
same thing happened to me the other day, i shut my n3ds for a few hours, opened it back up and both of the screens were dead, at first it wasnt making noise but i hit the home button and it then made the home menu sound, force turning it off and turning it on again seemed to miraculously fix it, seems like maybe homebrew consoles have a chance to just not have their screens work or smth
My eyes somehow have adjusted to the 3D after only a month and I’ve played my console just twice before they adjusted

I don't know if it's still possible to do this, but try to see if those consoles have the 3DS ambassador certificate. Not sure you can still get the games since the store shut down though...

My 3DSs do work with DS games but sometimes, they don't appear right away so it times some messing around to get them to read when that happens. My New 3DS XL especially ends up doing this which is such a pain. For a while, it just flat out wouldn't read DS games so I played them in either my DS Lite or my 3DS but out of nowhere, it started reading them again. It's weird.
It's weird, the 2DS XL that's set to 2011, my mom has the exact same one & it was set to around 2012 for some reason. I started up a save of SoulSilver on my DS Lite & was SRing for a shiny starter but the screen got damaged or something, I don't know what happened but sometimes when I reset, everything was blank & it was frequent enough to where I couldn't do much in the way of reset hunts on my DS Lite anymore so I switched to using my New 3DS XL because my 3DS is not SR friendly, especially for DS games because hitting the buttons with the way they are is frustrating but my New 3DS XL stopped reading DS games so I stopped the hunt for a while but my mom ended up letting me barrow her 2DS XL & I continued the hunt. Funny thing is, I started that file in like 2017 but since hers was set to 2012, when I got my shiny Chikorita using her console, the date of receiving it is that year even though it's incorrect. Given the file was started after that, looks like Celebi decided to mess with my file.
When it was mentioned that the New 3DS XL is valuable, I ended up having a mild panic attack because I realized mine wasn't perched where I normally keep it on my desk but I remember that I brought it with me on a trip last month where I flew to Arizona so I was scared I might of left it in Arizona. One time YEARS ago, I went on a trip to California & I brought my Spongebob Squarepants CD player with me to listen to CDs on the flight but I ended up leaving it behind on accident so I was terrified I might of done that with my New 3DS XL so I ended up frantically looking for it during this video. As it turns out, I put it in a different bag because of having to take it out to put in a bin when scanning the stuff with TSA so it's safe & sound. I do a lot of shiny hunting in Pokemon & I like playing multiple systems at the same time, plus my save file of Crystal VC is on that system so I would of been heartbroken to lose it.

The third case is a 2DS case not the new 2DS but the original 2DS are also can play 3DS's games
