    Ever since starting my hair loss routine my girlfriend has been complimenting my hair “shaft” and noticing how much girthier each individual hair is.
    I’m taking finasteride and minoxidil daily as well as listening to sigma music edits while visualizing a perfectly “Chad” full head of hair. I believe the finasteride and minoxidil are having a MINOR effect while the all natural, psychological treatments are what’s really doing the heavy lifting here.

    Hi Kevin, I am a scientist from Germany and I am currently working in aging research. Since I have to read scientific articles on a day to day basis, I really appreciate how non-biased you present these scientific studies. It still boggles me how many people are "immune" to scientific data and rather believe reddit articles, that have no type of relevant proof. The situation here in Germany concerning Hair-loss treatments and how they are presented is way worse, than it seems in the USA. The majority of people have no clue when it comes to hair-loss and how to treat it and even the doctors are completely uneducated (speaking from my own experience). German media such as RUclips or simply the TV news present for example finasteride as a quote on quote "horror drug" that destroys your life, makes you suicidal and destroys your sex life with news titles like "Dead pants instead of a bald head?". It makes me so mad how exaggerated and selective the facts about finasteride side effects are presented here in Germany. However, I can't blame people that believe all this bullshit presented in the internet regarding hair-loss treatments because if you don't have any knowledge about this topic you don't know what to believe and what not. I am very grateful you're channel exists and I wish more people would listen to the truth, rather than waisting their time, money and most importantly their hair listening to some trash advice. So thanks Kevin and keep doing what you're doing!

    Don’t forget to look into BDNF’s significant involvement in hair loss. Both BDNF and DHT increase DKK1 expression, and there is a much higher concentration of BDNF in the scalp follicle tissue of hair loss sufferers. Magnesium L-Threonate has been shown to inhibit DKK1 expression, but this was done in vitro, so I’m not sure if it’s an effective treatment option.

      Yes magnesium is very crucial for hairgrowth but we have to choose right quality of magnesium with pureness and elementary because not all magnesium supplements are the same in market. • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад

      There's no hard data to back up those claims. Even if DHEA went up it would still be blocked from being converted to DHT by dutasteride. Ultimately DHT is the culprit and dutasteride blocks it better than fin.

The shed also made me lose hairs all over my head even the sides and back when i only had receding hairline to begin with. Now im 7 months in and the shedding is starting to get worse again. • @haircafekevin

      It's still just a treatment shed. 7 months is too soon to judge efficacy of any treatment. Hair growth is not synchronized across the scalp so multiple sheds will happen.

    Hey Kevin, closing in on a year of treatment. Changes have been drastic. I've gotten my third person in my circle on finasteride (with a fourth starting soon), and you really have made more of an impact than you think. So far, everyone that is on treatment isn't experiencing sides, including myself.
    I was wondering this: when is it time to make the switch to oral dutasteride? We say that finasteride is best as PREVENTATIVE measure, but then does that mean I should start dutasteride as soon as possible, even if finasteride is working? I'm also a little concerned about 5AR-2 inhibition given its activity in the brain. Is this a concern?
    For reference, I'm 19 years old. I was maybe a NW 2.5 at the beginning of treatment. I think I closed in closer to a NW 1.5 now, but ever since adding topical minox, the shed has definitely been more drastic. I'm about 2 months into minox, but I have faith I will bounce back.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад +1

      The shed from minoxidil is a good sign. It will be followed by more hair growth. I would advise just staying on finasteride since it is working and there is no point in rocking the boat. I think you mean you are concerned about 5AR-1 inhibition in the brain, since that's the predominant 5AR in the brain and dutasteride blocks that. However dutasteride doesn't seem to have a higher incidence of sides than fin. Regardless, I would reserve dutasteride for if you ever lose ground.

      However, I did notice a good level of shedding 1-3 months prior to starting fin, which freaked me out. This was also when I noticed that I was balding. So, I would say I was both shedding a lot and receding. I still shed, but not to the same extent and I know it's part of the hair-cycle and not an indication of worsening treatment.

    It's been almost 2.5 years since I've been on finasteride. I got two trichoscopies 8 months ago and one month ago. The last results show that compared to the first trichogram, my hair is thinning and it's weird because it is thinning everywhere, even in the regions which are not hormone dependent. I didn't stop taking finasteride, so I wonder if it is because I changed my supplement stack (I added Boron, Zinc, high dose creatine 10g/day and I also tried Ashwagandha for 6 weeks which is anecdotally said to cause hair loss for some people). My dermatologist added oral Spironolactone 50mg/day to my fin prescription. He even considered adding oral min as I don't want the topical form, but I'll pass on that one (heart health >>>>> hair health).
    Can you give me some advice Kevin? I think I'll try to ditch anything that increases testosterone even slightly in my stack, just to be safe and I'll ditch the creatine too.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад +3

      Your dermatologist gave you oral spironolactone?
      That's crazy. Why not just try stronger 5ar inhibition? You can use 2.5 mg of dutasteride for twice the scalp dht suppression of finasteride.

    So I am 18 by next month and started fin a week ago and there are no sides for now but I am concerned that it will effect my further height growth or not because it increases estrogen I read and if it increases estrogen it will close growth plates or not it will increase by little??

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад +1

      No, it won't. Finasteride's research is based on populations of people born with a genetic deficiency of the 5AR enzyme and they all grew to normal height and had otherwise normal development. I made a video specifically about this.

    I thought TGF beta in hair follicles was good?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад

      It has different actions depending on the hair growth cycle. Generally it shortens the anagen phase and initiates the catagen phase, (at least for TGF-beta-1).

    Hi Kevin At present, assuming that dutasteride's relation to being a vegetarian is irrelevant, would you prioritize using dutasteride or finasteride? And does dutasteride have a greater impact on the nervous system? And Do you have strong faith in verteporfin?"
    Thank you

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад +2

      No, dutasteride doesn't have any greater side effect profile than finasteride in any capacity. If anything the side effects may even be lower although finasteride has more long term research. Bottom line is that it is safe.
      Yes, I would use it if it didn't come in gelatin capsules.

    Hey Kevin I had a quick question. So I am using topical finasteride, but also taking saw palmetto. I am wondering if this is doing anything? Is it worth it to continue taking saw palmetto?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад +5

      No, the two drugs don't stack so saw palmetto is worthless. Doesn't suppress enough dht on its own to so anything either.

    Hi, Kevin
    Wanted to ask, does ethnicity and the environment (on top of genetics) make someone more/less prone to AGA? Does that also affect how they respond to treatments?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад +1

      Other than smoking, there haven't been a lot of environmental factors that affect the progression of AGA. As far as ethnicity, there are some populations with a lower incidence of the genetics, like Asians. I think the response to treatment depends on the genetics that you inherit. Some people have milder forms and some have more aggressive forms.

    Hey Kevin, I heard somewhere that it’s better to jump straight to dutasteride if you start balding in your teens. Is there any truth to that, or is it best to just start with finasteride? thanks

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  6 месяцев назад +4

      I think they are both good, but if you've already lost ground then I think dutasteride with minoxidil will give you better chances of regrowth.
      If you start before losing ground then finasteride by itself will work indefinitely.
      I talk about it in my "why fnasteride stops hair loss forever video."
      Whatever you do don't panic about the shed. Sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better and that's just the way it is.
