    Pay attention he had another guy holding shoe on right while hooking the spring. I didn't notice someone was holding it for him when I quickly viewed video while outside doing mine. Be careful if you don't have someone to hold the shoe on the right. Using vicegrips so much force is exerted trying to hook large spring onto the right shoe that that force pushed the piston in the wheel cylinder out the the right side of the cylider. That caused fluid to leak and air to get into cylinder before I could push the piston back in. Then when I thought I was done pedal went to floor because of the air, had to bleed the brakes. Instead of vicegrips use a #1 size Phillips head screwdriver or something similar so tip of screwdriver doesn't block the hole you're trying to get spring in. Hook spring on screwdriver shaft and put tip into hole spring needs to go into and pull spring with screwdriver while guiding it down screwdriver shaft into the hole in the right shoe. Also more than likely you'll need to back off on the previous adjustment in order to get new drums to slide onto brakes. It was a nightmare but it was only the second time I did drum brakes so the experience I gained made the passenger side go way faster than drivers side. Either way thanks for putting this video up

    Great job. I did this yesterday on a friend's vehicle, and fought that top spring on both sides. Finally had to get help to hold the shoe in place after causing the piston to pop out a few times. 🤣The struggle is REAL.

    Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I changed my rear drum breaks on my 2003 Accord today using your video and the video from JimTheCarGuy. The breaks have been on there since I bought the car in 2007 and just started grinding. After I opened up the passenger's side break, it turns out that the one of the pins holding the shoes had broken due to rust and the shoe was out of alignment. In either case, the shoes were worn down to the metal and needed replacement, so it was about time.
    Everything went similarly to your video except getting that main spring was a super difficult, I had to try several times. I missed getting the fork into the slot when putting on the spring. After 5 attempts I finally got it on. It's definitely easier if you have some help, you guys hit it right on the head with your example.
    In any case, big thanks for this video. It's really not that hard of a job with such good videos.

    Fantastic tutorial! Thank-you so much. I used large C-clamps to hold the shoes in place when pulling the large spring. I also use a separate C-Clamp for holding the pin in place while trying to get the clip on that holds the shoe in place. For the parking brake, I finally skipped the spring washer. Thank-you again. Great job!

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  7 лет назад +1

      I would first inspect where the noise is coming from. If its coming from the rear, pull the drums out, inspect if its down to the minimum wear, which is 1mm on the shoes. If it's time to replace it, do a shoe replacement, and make sure to lube all the points mentioned in our video. There is 6 spots you need to lube with anti seize to prevent any noise problems as the brake parts will rub onto them and can cause noise.

    hi, I am following your video and I managed to change the shoes, but there seems to be something wrong with the breaks while driving.
    as I was trying to put the spring back on, I pulled the rubber top from the piston, and everything came out. I put it back in as they were, but you guys mentioned that if that does happen I should "leak the breaks"? I wanted to know what that means, thanks!
