“This Is The Equivalent Of A Kit Car Made In The Shed” Time Running Out To Save Missing Titanic Sub

  • Oxygen on the missing Titanic submersible is expected to run out in hours, with rescue efforts to find the five people onboard in full force overnight.
The vessel, named Titan, lost communication with tour operators on Sunday while about 435 miles south of St John’s, Newfoundland, during a voyage to the Titanic shipwreck off the coast of Canada.
TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by former Royal Navy commander Dr Chris Parry who tells her “it’s over” for the crew on the missing Titanic sub.
“The sea is always out to get you. Everything has to go right every time. In this sector, people are taking chances with people’s lives."
“This is the equivalent of a kit car made in the shed at the end of the garden.”

Supposedly, this thing has 8 different ways to release ballast to return to the surface, including sandbags on some sort of rapidly desolving hooks. Obviously, there were terrible engineering decisions in other areas, but they did seem to do some thinking on what needs to happen to make sure it gets back to the surface if it is in tact. The fact that it apparently didn't make it back to the surface suggests that it imploded.

He built this submersible on the cheap with no idea if it would even work, it was barely tested after having multiple failures during testing and only ever going to these depths twice before. He ignored multiple warnings about safety issues so I think he has ultimately paid for his hubris with his life and the lives of 4 others.

This man is the first person to say exactly what I’ve been thinking this entire time. GO DOWN TO THE TITANIC. That’s where they were headed so that’s the logical place to start. They can still send some resources to locate the banging, but why isn’t a robot or whatever being sent down to the Titanic wreckage first and foremost? I’ve been baffled this entire time but thought maybe I had it wrong since I don’t know anything about ocean rescue. Imagine how horrible if the next submersible to visit the Titanic also finds the Titan down there entangled in the wreckage. They were there the whole time and no one came down for them. Terrifying and infuriating.

A world of the super rich, the top 1% can do what they want and the state - and therefore the taxpayer - can pick up the pieces. Looking at the back stories of some of the tourists who took this trip is it's own story. Very few of them were non wealthy Titanic- obsessives. Hamish Harding was in Washpo bragging about making money out of the pandemic and private jet travel, Oisin Fanning is the CEO of a fossil fuel company. The Pakistani businessman is one of PK's riches men in a nation exploited by the super wealthy, meaning its own citizens take to the high seas in boats to migrate for a better life.
