BALLSY SHAKEDOWN SAIL IN NEW CUSTOM ALUMINUM BOAT
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 сен 2024
- We purchased a custom aluminum expedition sailboat overseas in Panama where we refit the boat to make her offshore ready for a massive shakedown sail. We will be sailing offshore from Panama to the United States where we will be living completely off the grid. While out in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, we ration our fresh water supply, sail our inner stay sail, code zero and learn to reef on our new to us sailboat. We encounter squalls, seasickness and rough sea conditions before finally getting some smooth sailing.

You guys are definitely the top couples sailing RUclips channel. So glad that you didn’t go catamaran on us, lol. I still favor the singlehanders, but never grow tired of you guys. Here’s an idea. How about a Great Lakes tour via the St Lawrence? No one’s doing that.
this is the best sailing show on the internet. can't wait for the next episode!
The new boat is absolutely engaging, quick on her feet and steady as a rock. Dinghy sat on deck perfectly. So HAPPY you guys are back on the water, married and heading for the USA. See you at the Annapolis Boat Show!
The new boat continues to impress ! I’m sure it’s exciting to be planning all of improvements and customization you’re going to do.
Travis's photo is spectacular. Made me tear up.
Mr n Mrs out in their first sail ⛵️. The boat looks fantastic n sailing nice. This was a fun episode. So happy for you guys
Love your new boat and can't wait to see new adventures with her. Take care and fair winds!
You both look sooo happy being back on the water. Hooray!
LOL! I like the “Princess chair”!
Love that new ride. She looks like she could sail through a hurricane whistling Dixie
So cool to see your new boat out on the open water and going for it! Loved the 3d camera views showing all the sails flying! What a sweet ride. The side views with the raw hull showing sure looks like a battleship coming your way:-) Sure hope all is well with the engine and can't wait to see the next episode!
I was VERY skeptical about this NEW boat....I knew you learned a lot from your nice Hunter Sailboat days..... I REALLY APPRECIATE your new found Wisdom and gutsy decision to take on this GREAT Boat for where you are headed. Great choice! Love your Videos. Change one thing, post MORE how to Videos with this New boat. We sailors can never watch and learn from each other. There are enough Travel channels... do not try to compete with them. You are the perfect couple to show us HOW a good sailing team can work together to get these project done, without killing each other. Our wives can see for themselves what lie on the water full time can be like and how to successfully work together as true boat partners. I am sure you chanal will grow even faster from newer sailing couples watching your example of how to successfully work together as true boat partners. Then more couples will follow your example.
New boat has really great lines. Great episode I always look forward each week for your next one. I enjoy listening to you converse and interact with each other. In my opinion you are both very sailor knowledgeable. Stay safe have fun.
This is why I enjoy your channel, I always learn something from your channel though at times Travis makes me scratch my head at times when he does something.. Not in a bad way of course probably because I don’t understand right away.. You guys have such a positive outlook on things even when things go wonky. Thank you for teaching us and inspiring us to live life to the fullest.. Hopefully your sail north is safe..
Terrific boat. Make sure you can escape out of the front cabin if there's a fire. On my Hunter 456 I raised up the bow of the dinghy so someone can lift the hatch enough to crawl out.
The two fixed seats on the transom are really nice. Great feature! 😎
Congratulations with your new boat! I watch more and more of your videos and now I am craving them. You are very cool guys! Love ya ❤
I’m not sure yet as I am still reeling from your engagement ‼️✨🎊✨ 💕 Bummer, Steph on the 🤢🤮☺️ Yet you came alive on day 5 and going forward. Love the comment: “ she is like a tank!” Nice to know as we narrow our choices for our next boat……metal seems to be a good choice. 👍🏻 I heard a comment from another boater recently “no replacement for displacement.” Looking forward as to what the boat mechanic wizard figures out with the motor. See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨💕
Another excellent video, well done. I think you will really love your new boat as you learn to sail/work/maintain/repair her. I would offer one hint for convenience on passage. With your cutter rig, I think you will find that in variable winds upwind you can set two reefs in the main and leave the staysail set pretty much all the time. That way you should be able to stay upright in pretty much everything from a light breeze to a gale - just by furling the genoa to adjust for wind. Two reefs in the main and staysail should be your best set for beating and as you point further off the wind, the added genoa should add speed without heel. Fair winds!
Looks like you got yourselves a super good yacht!
You two look soooo happy 😃
❤ from 🇨🇦 BC
Couple of ole salty sailors out stretching out the old girls legs! She’s a beast ! 💪🏼😎
What a well built and equipped vessel you now have. I’m looking forward to your future adventures. With all the logs in the water, you’d think you were sailing in coastal waters of BC. That bell sounds just like the subscribe bell.
Spoke too soon, you just started explaining it now.. Thanks, John…
Would you consider doing a wrap on the hull to make it look a little nicer?
You guys gonna go to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard? Would be really cool if you went up to Nova Scotia and then around New Brunswick to Montreal and then to Chicago.
Thanks for sharing, good to see you guys back out there. Cheers From nz.
The supper looked delicious!
Sooo jealous , get my boat next year !!
Groovy episode
Peter here from Vancouver. Recently started watching your channel. I love your new boat. It's great to see a monohull beat upwind at 7.5 knots and handle the sea state without issue. Looks like you both made a terrific decision to buy this boat. Have you seen the boat that RAN Sailing is building. Or the Duracell Project. Two other fantastic (real) sailboats. I look forward to your upcoming adventures.
Travis, Could you please explain your self steering system, I notice you have a line connected to the helm, thought you might have a beefier system for such a large boat… really enjoy your videos… John, Ontario, Canada
Stop in Marathon, FL...Boot Key Harbor for fuel and food! Happy to assist.
See you in 17 days!!
you might want to rethink that shackle, that's a heavy boat with a little itty bitty shackle. would love to see a painted hull, maybe some etching aluminum paint and gel coat.
I've been surprised at your ingenuity, but using that as a snubber surprises me in a bad way. That is not smart Travis!!
I certainly don't know your escape routes inside the cabin of your boat. I would highly recommend not blocking two forward hatches, with your dinghy. Really enjoy your channel.
Travis, how much of a difference have you noticed between the centre cockpit of the Hunter vs the Arctic? I’ve only sailed Hobies and aft cockpit rigs. Glad to see you making way back state side! Stay safe!
That bimini is so short 😮
Seems like a lot of work for the dingy
You should use the bell when you heel as a prompt for 'Like, Subscribe, Get Notifications!' ✝️⚓️❤️
Put the first one in the second one goes in where the first one came out the third one goes in where the second one comes out and the same way no matter which one you start with or the first one goes in the second one goes in the first one comes out You take it past the three it takes to hold the splice. Do you want to and then one and your spice will taper down to the diameter original rope all three of them come out they all come out the same time but a different loop and then taper.
Hey guys…love the channel and have been w you since episode one when you started down from Canada! I feel you guys should have so many more subscribers compared to other channels and we (your subscriber team) should work to each get 5 others to subscribe to your channel so we can push u over 100K! Keep them coming and show us a map of the route you are taking and let us know what you did to avoid the pirate issue off the Nicaraguan coast. Fair Winds from Austin!
👍👍❤🥳
Sorry guys but I’ve got to tell you that that snubber arrangement is slightly wrong. The snubber is supposed to take the full load on the rode and I don’t think hanging from a snap shackle is the answer. The chain is not supposed to take the load as there is still a snatch load that should be avoided (there is no gradual transfer of load from snubber to chain). The calculation for snubber length makes for a pretty long snubber for storm conditions, much more than I see people putting out. The calculation I don’t have handy but you can find it in Practical Sailor. For example, my 32 foot 19,500l lbs boat should have a snubber length of 52 feet under storm conditions.
Oh, and tie your snubber with a camel hitch as opposed to a rolling clove. Under height load the rolling hitch will slip.
🙏❤️🇺🇸👊🏼
I noticed you don't have a safety overboard ring in your cockpit area, not one that is ready. It is mandatory, for good reason. Coastguard do not really want to do search and rescue because of negligence. If you get boarded by Coastguard you will get a violation/ fin against you. But what is kind of negligent, if one of you falls overboard, the ring is the first thing to throw at the victim,it will save a life. It is impossible to turn around fast enough on a sailboat to recover an overboard person, and try to keep an eye on where they are in the water. Unless you think you are both excellent swimmers thinking you can tread water for a good amount of time. I have been a competitive swimmer, have passed many swimming certifications, certified scuba diver, and I wouldn't bet on myself going overboard waiting to be retrieved fast enough. Just saying.
I love the new boat. What a great adventure.
