Chinook guy here. That's a 46, a 47 is a sweet airframe. Going on 70 years old...
HOOKERS! I was at Big Windy and 160th at HAAF in Savannah, 3rd batt.
As a Chinook guy, you should've corrected him that the helo is a Sea Knight/Phrog. It's easy enough to tell the difference, so calling all banana helos "Chinooks" is bad practice, since Chinooks and Sea Knights aren't even in the same weight class.
EDIT: Knight, not King.
Yes.. Just yes.. 100% all the way, Man.. Get the chinook. No second thoughts only full sends.
That's not a chinook it's a sea king.
The professor is right. Lets go
@@johnmarsh6337 Sea Knight.
Even if he sold it in 10 years it will probably be worth so much more
CH-46
Get the frog for sure. Could even help with some of remote recoveries on the mountain roads.
Yup no brainer
ALBATROSS 100% ITS A FUCKING FLYING VACATION WINEBAGO!!! sold.
@@gerry-p9x ALBATROSS 100% ITS A FUCKING FLYING VACATION WINEBAGO!!! sold.
That frog is most probably flogged to death.
When I was in the Army, I was in a Chinook outfit (242 AVN, Sugar Bears). During one field trip we meet with some Cobra pilots. Of course, one of the questions from the Chinook pilots was "How fast does it go?" The Cobra pilot responded "Well, it's red lined at 190 . . . . . . . but she'll go 210."
This brings back many memories. In 1962 I flew in S2F1,s in 1962. We then were changing to S3F3.s (twice the range). These were real Hot Rods designed to fly 50 to100 feet over water looking for subs. Great planes for their time. Many thanks. Lots were converted to fire dropping as they are/were very versatile in tight areas.
CH-46 Sea Knight and the OV-10 Bronco, 100%. The Bronco is such a slept-on piece of history. The Cobra is obviously amazing too but I'd hate to set that OV-10 end up in some back corner of a hanger.
CH-46 and OV-10 for sure. The Cobra is cool but I don’t see any purpose for it other than being cool. Not useful for recoveries or heavy lift operations.
This right here. Always loved the Bronco.
Ov10 and the 46...you could literally be your own Forest Fire SAR team...Long line with 46 Get a Flir ball on Dauphin or Ov10
@@jerodharris Two Broncos were refitted for service in the Middle East a while back, I'm sure there is a video out there on them.
@jerodharris AH-1s have a stabilized gun mount. Obviously, the gun is a no-go and probably missing. However film studios used to use the stabilizer to mount cameras. Before drones were popular the go to for aerial camera shots was a Helicopter. Top Gear crashed an AH-1 doing that exact thing not too long ago.
I know you're a helicopter guy, but as an old Coast Guard Aviation Electrician, my heart goes to the Albatross HU16E. I only flew in one once, but that water landing was something to remember. Most of my flying was as Loadmaster on C-123Bs back in 1969-1973.
1. YOU HAVE GOT to get the OV-10 Bronco, 2. You need to have the Cobra and 3. The CH-46 is a MUST HAVE.
The Bronco! The Bronco!! THE BRONCO!!! Basically the prop version of an A-10 and a life saver for the infantry! Get it and get it back in the air!
This is also my vote. I assumed most people would rally around the baby Chinook, but it looks like a lot of people like the bronco
Get the Cobra. By the way all AH-1s had dual controls. The trick was that the front seat controls were much more sensitive than the rear. While the pedals were the same, the collective and cyclic had a 3-1 ratio back seat to front seat and rather than fly with the whole arm the front seater was just flying with his wrists. Because of this it was one of the most difficult Army helicopters to hover.
Ditto. Flew AH=1Gs in Nam 68/69, 11thACR.
2nd getting that cobra. 😅
Get the 46. I crew the CH-47F and it's difficult to express how versatile both of these airframes are. Pick up the Phrog.
Get the Seaknight! It may not be a full size Chinook. But it is a very agile aircraft. I had the pleasure of flying in them while I was in the Navy. When we went to other ships in the battle group. We had to be lowered by cable to board the destroyers and frigates. Awesome experience!
All you muppets upvoting and replying to a bot that just copy/pasted a random comment posted earlier.
You absolutely need that cobra too..
100% he need that
Agreed
Another one he doesn't own irl? great.
YES!!!
The CH46 requires a lot of maintenance to keep it operational. One thing we learned in the Marines, dont worry if you see it leaking fluids. Thats normal. The time to worry is when it stops leaking fluid, that means its out... That CH46 is missing the Auxillary float bladders that the entire fleet should have been outfitted with. Saddle bags mid fuselage that hold floats that would inflate if the bird went down in water.
Old men like this are a treasure i wish there were more like them around we sure owe a lot of what made this country great to them.
The CH-46 and the Albatross are the two I would like to see you get, both would be great for scouting recoveries. Instead of say taking a truck somewhere to scout a sunken boat, just take the Albatross and land on the water. And the CH-46, well, come on you gotta have it. Could load it full of tools and maybe vehicles to do remote recoveries.
I'd never take a truck to scout a sunken boat. I'd take a boat.
load the recoveries in it
I’m a helicopter mechanic, probably why RUclips recommended your channel. I love helicopters but I’ve always had a soft spot for twin turboprops. I love that OV-10 Branco. That thing is so bad ass. If you love power you’ll love those TPE-331s. I worked on those engines for a few years on a twin commander. That thing took off like a rocket ship. Get that Branco back in the air. I don’t see enough of them still flying. The marines would put some grunts in the back of that thing, go vertical, and dump them out the ass end. That would make a great video if you could pull that maneuver off.
As someone who works in the aircraft part community, both civilian and military parts are created through our plant. The cobra would set first place in my heart. Where we make parts for the Apache, I'd love to see the cobra brought back to life just so people never forget where the Apache was born from.
Even better, just buy it and make your own parts with a 3D printer and CNC machine. The idea of using an outside vendor in the last 10 years is insane.
1942 Dodge WC 53 Carryall, that truck looked like he has been taking care of her for a while. That would be a great vehicle to take care of and restore. The wooden deck in the back would be the best part to replace. Imagine what curly maple would look like with a deep mirrored tiger patern. Make it shine!
I live one mile from that airfield. Rick's a good guy. I work at his old company. I was in HMM-165 as an aerial observer/ hydraulics man on the CH46E. It would be cool to see you get the phrog.
Yes. Try to acquire the Chinook. Heavy cargo, crew carrier for search and rescue missions, and money maker heavy lifting item like big A/C units on top of buildings.
The albatross seems pretty awesome
was thinking the same. boater home plane to go with the boater home
ALBEE ALL DAY. straight vacation bird there!!!!!
A better buy than the heli
def flying RV
As long as corrosion was never an issue and a wing doesn't randomly fall off that would be a fun plane to have.
chinook are the best and most reliable machine to own - i dealt with them in the military quite often
When I was 13 I watched an 'Invader' (two engine light American WWII bomber) loose control and nose dive into a field killing a dozen people on board. The inquiry consluded that a control line (baiden cable) had snapped. That aircraft you missed might just be a blessing!
I haven't watched this channel for a while - is Hans on crystal meth now? Maybe he should take up yoga.
70's sasquatch throwback Diesel Dave is a blessing, that narrative of the fire fighting plane and the ending where so funny! :D
1. Cobra Gunship
2. Plane that flew over Laos
3. CH-47
4. OV-10 Bronco
That’s a Sea Knight (CH-46). The Chinook has a full length sponson and two engines mounted outside the rear pedestal. The Navy and Marines used the CH-46.
He says all that in the video, you must be broken.
@@ASDasdSDsadASD-nc7lf If he already knew he should correct the title of this video. It's just making him look dumb.
My dad is a retired Air Force pilot. He flew the b-29, albatross, o-2, c-141, c-130, kc-135, and the c-5. He said by FAR his favorite plane to fly was the albatross. Super fun to fly and it can take you to all sorts of amazing places. I think you might love it.
The Chinook was super cool, I also really like the Albatross, can you imagine camping over night in that sleeping in a hammock?
The Dept of State bought a bunch of the CH46 from the Marines and they delivered them from southern California to FLA. They had to turn off all the safety gear since it wouldn't let the helo fly if enabled... I think two of them had to stop for service along the way and the others left the straglers behind. They followed I-10 from their base in CA to FL and then headed south to the base. On a side note, The Dept. of State used the OV-10 for years as a spray plane in their drug interdiction squad. As they stopped using the OV-10 and used the AirTractor. Their last OV-10 went to the Tico Airport in Titusville for a museum airplane. They towed it up US-1 and blocked traffic one afternoon for MILES!
The Cessna SkyMaster looked like a cool aircraft but it couldn't fly very high on one engine, and you had to sync the engines or it would shake you to death. Because of the extra weight of two engines, it couldn't do very well, especially on higher altitudes without both engines running.
The plane you reported as a fire fighting specialized aircraft was an S-2. Originally a Submarine Hunter. I served in Vs-24 in the early 70’s aboard USS SARATOGA flying the S-2 G as an Aviation Structural Mechanic.
Oh, I ADORE the Bronco. They're so freaking cool. Such a tough, versatile airframe.
It has to be this.
I worked right next door to him! his collection was amazing, such a sweet guy as well! mr weaver also restores t-34s :) fun story about that albatross, my dad actually flew it after retiring from United, it was his last type rating was in that exact white albatross! Such cool history and was a blast to fly in :) I grew up seein the dismantled albatross on the taxiway and being able to look at it when i was working I always wanted to see it fly!
A crew can be trained, you only get to OWN a CH once in your life man. Lord knows I will be glued to that content. Between you guys and Cleetus ya'll got me hooked on aviation. Start ground school this spring. Also, I didn't know Milwaukee made suspenders, They really do make everything.
I cant be the only one thinking that our boy Cleetus needs to see this video and give Dave a call right quick. The Cobra on his channel would be incredible
Buy the OV10 Bronco and do a fly together with Trent Palmer, or Corey Robin. That plane looks super cool.
That white Albatros For Sure!!! Would love to see you not turn that other wrack into a tiny home, but the White into a flying gem! And of course the 46

That White Grumman Albatross is an Awesome Amphibian! The 2nd one I would repower with Turbine engines!

HECK YEAH!!! You should DEFINITELY buy the Chinook Chopper! It's a BIG cargo carrier that can carry that Ripsaw tracked vehicles out of the back with ease! If you're a good enough pilot, you can hover right over any river, lake and ocean water to exit and re-enter a Zodiac RIB boat right out the back elevator platform for your back-country weekend funtime rides! You can even turn the back of the Chinook into a luxury flying RV with bed, kitchen, living room and bathroom so you can fly ANYWHERE in the backcountry for camping, fishing and hunting!
BUY IT!

The Albatross is a baby Catalina which had bunks and a kitchen in it while being a warplane. I am blown away by all of this and couldn't make up my mind if I had to choose just one. The Chinook for you and your crew, and the cobra for a piece of history that nobody else has. The way I understand it is, "The smell of napalm in the morning, smells like victory"

Since you say , i have a say. I would like to see you get your Ky. builder involved. You may get your stuff for a better bargain. Or hooking him up with rare copter stuff, maybe he can take the chinook with him to get it ready for you. As well as one of those aqua planes. Ty for taking us along. Rick is Awesome
The longest serving chinook was bravo November it was in the Falklands all the way to Afghanistan and was only retired in 2022 shows how great of a helicopter they are
Unlimited pile of money: Sea Knight!! Little smaller pile: Bronco!! I’d go with the Skymaster…one pulling and one pushing….very cool! Thanks for posting another great one!
Get the Chinook. There is so much utility in that bird for your type of lifestyle. Also, I really like the classic Star Trek font you are using for the captioning. Yes, somebody noticed.
First on the List would be that Albatross for me. Second would be the OV-10 Bronco. With the Albatross I would be able to do my most loved thing, Fly in fishing trips. Being able to fly into remote lakes and fish and camp would be a dream come true for me. I already have my ground school I could easily finish off my license with an amphibious aircraft and use it as my mode of transport to remote locations. Will all the room in that plane I would be able to fully equipe myself for a reasonable stay in a remote lake in the North somewhere and do my level best to catch trophy level fish! A seaplane would be perfect in every way, because it isn't just limited to water, as we can also see it has landing gear. so flying across country wouldn't be a real issue, stopping along the way to refuel and continue. I'm not going to lie, the Frog would also be a worthy craft to own, although it would require a large enough area to land, there are still many places you could go with it. But I'm just not that into rotary with aircraft like Dave is, I prefer traditional aircraft as they have a higher speed and typically range as well.
You would conquer the U.P.
I was a Hooker in the Army. Night Stalker in fact. A CH46 is CONSIDERABLY SMALLER than a Hook (CH-47)
chinook mechanic here... ch47s and ch46s are similar but ch46s have a shorter flight distance and overall just not as good as the 47s
I doubt you are. That's a sea knight not a chinook.

Not as good? Different mission different aircraft.
I say go all in the Chinook if thats something your wanting purchase/invest in and if possible how about the two vehicle's behind you at 15:44 the tank looking one and the side by side behind it.
You guys should look in to the 46 for sure, especially for search and rescue. The cabin in the back will work wonders for medics treating casualties if you configure it right.
You should buy a Chinook, and take it logging!
Definitely get the Chinook, and that little flatbed go cart, so you can haul stuff around , then probably the Cessna Skymaster because it looks fast and it’s small,
Bronco! And upgrade the engines. But I expect you'll go for a helicopter. As well as the two seat cockpit the OV-10 has a bonus space in the back. A lot of bonus space and even on the standard engines it was built to carry a lot of load.
Buy it ALL. Immediately hire someone to manage the collection.
Decide what you want to save and rebuild. ( Cobra, 46 Frog, Albatross )
Then begin to offload all the other stuff to fund those builds, and continued operation.
I can see how the gentleman's collection is overwhelming. Wow, I did see one of my favorite WW2 vehicles. A American half-track. But, the F86 sabre jet, the cobra and the Chinook would be some cool aircraft to fly.
That's not a Chinook.... it's a Sea Knight!!

When I was younger, I got the log some hours in a sky master. Such a great airplane. It is literally the station wagon of the sky with amazing performance. Would love to see that thing, restored and ripping around.

You should consider investing into an Air Firefighting company. That way you could have multiple choppers and airplanes, and get rentability of the fleet.
Oh wow. The Bronco and a Skymaster!! And the A26!! That’s a favorite of mine, there was an operational fire bomber squadron of them stationed at the local airport in Kalispell Montana when I was a teenager in the 80’s. I can totally see Dave getting the CH46 because he could actually use it, and an Albatross would be wicked cool!!
My BiL (deceased) was a Cobra pilot. The front seat always had a set of controls. The front seat was for the co-pilot/gunner. After all, a pilot could be wounded. They had abbreviated instruments and could not perform tasks such as starting the helicopter.
My First die-cast model when I was a kid was an OV-10 and I still have it today after 40 or so years. It was so fascinating because it didn't look like a normal plane. The Chinook is also a second choice....but just imaging flying a OV-10 as I bet no one has in years.
Had a bit of drooling going on when I saw that A26 ,but ya came for the Chinook and she wants to fly also! Hard choice. All the round that place!
I would definitely get the Chinook mainly because it's a very versatile aircraft we've had a lot of fires where I live and the local fire department actually owns Chinooks to drop water and fire retardant. But I think for you it would definitely be an asset to you especially since you do the rescues.
Albatross, paint it yellow and name it the Sea Duck!
I realize it's not the same, but still. Tail spin was probably my favorite cartoon when I was little.
The 46 and cobra are obviously the coolest to most. Personally i love the albatross. That fella has one hell of a collection.
The twin engined plane that they call a water bomber is actually a Grumman C-1 Trader which was used originally as a COD . Used for transportation of goods and personnel aboard aircraft carriers. I road one of the last in service from NAS Willow Grove , PA. I was a crewman aboard USS Forrestal CV59 and the plane belonged to us to give the pilots flight time while we were in overhaul at PNSY Philadelphia 1985. The aircraft was flown to Davis Monthan soon afterwards.
I worked on BV 107(46) for 35 years, great machine.
The CH-46, the Cobra, and that nifty little flatbed power cart all need to go home with you! There was so much cool stuff in that second building, it was just overwhelming. I have a neighbor that lives up in the Gila Natl. Forest that has a couple of those flatbed carts, and I tried several times over the last 20 years to buy one, but he would never turn loose of them. I'm too old to even mess with it now, so just a moot point I guess!😄👍👍
CH-46 Seaknight! My dad flew in those as a rescue swimmer and crew chief. What an iconic helicopter.
THANK YOU for a complete video with NO Ads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are so many that I've put on my bucket list! I'm trying to get my Private Pilot's Certificate before I die, and fly 4 of the aircraft there! All from my childhood dreams!
You should get a hold of Cletis cleetus would have a field day with you in there it would be like two kids in a candy store with really deep pockets
Do the old man a favor and offer to continue his legacy and keep the museum available to aviators of the world when he passes. I'm sure he sees the nation and love he has in you and would be glad to know his legacy is in good hands for the future. You may be able to acquire the museum as a whole. It's your passions combined that he would be proud to know all he has worked for won't be divided once he moves on. You can buy single items or carry on his lifes work. What would you do if someone offered to do that for you and your legacy of life? 👊🙂 Make the old man happy!
The albatross and sea knight is a no brainer. A plane that can land on water is very very helpful. The sea knight, you might need to have one of your guys get trained up with you to fly. Would be a great recovery helicopter. Can’t imagine how many things you can pull out with what.
Get the mini chinook please for the love of god. Just imagining that thing fully restored and doing rescues is a beautiful thought
Big D, I can hear
the Jimmy Buffett plane whispering to ya! Lol! A boat, plane & home in one....🤔💪🤠
The Frog 100%. That would be awesome to own. My great uncle was a mechanic on the Chinook during Vietnam.
Do love the fact that you showed my birth City with the 46s and our Skyline. Imperial Beach had a couple of 46 unit's there.
I do not know. I think I would be overwhelmed. That F-86 Saber however... WOWSERS!!! 🤯
Buy the Cobra! Super cool and u don't need a whole crew!!
OV-10 Bronco, versatile and utility. Designed by 2 Marine pilots who served in Vietnam. I hear they are still used in the Philippines. Last war served in was the Gulf War. CH-46 is interesting but I had a Chinook fall out of the air and was not a fun landing so I am a little biased.
I want to see the Chinook and Cobra come back to life.
The black plane with 2 engines opposite each other was really cool.
The Cobra could be used to help fight forest fires, I think Florida has one. The Sea Knight could be used for search and rescue. And well the OV-10 is just bad ass, it actually has a small cargo hold in the back. Marines would be in it and then the OV-10 would go vertical and the Marines would be dumped out, obviously with parachutes.
As a Marine who flew on one of those Chinook, I think it would be really cool to see you add that one to your fleet
That chinook would make a badass rescue vehicle it could lift stuff out of weird places that your other wreckers might not get to of be difficult to get too
The OV-10 is a great plane, easy to work on. It was the 1st plane I worked on in the AF at Sembach AB Germany in 1977.
The Sea Knight. One of the ways to get supplies underway on a destroyer is that bad boy and those pilots where badass.
What an amazing bunch of toys! Out of all his things to sell, err, buy; I like the Chinook you were there to see. The last active duty one has clout.
The Frog is an attractive option and you could possibly get an ATV or even a side-by-side inside of it which would be useful when you visit remote areas. However, since you own a lot of wilderness land (I think you still do) and with wildfires becoming ever more common and more fierce, purchasing a plane (The Albatross perhaps?) that would allow you to do your own firefighting might be a good investment. Although it would likely sit idle most of the time.
100% the Cobra, I doubt you'll ever get the chance to own one ever again. Amazing piece of kit.
CH-46, OV-10, and the Alby. Love all three.
