With this step-by-step Teams tutorial you'll be able to successfully teach online with Microsoft Teams. You'll keep your students engaged and as teachers you can stay organized. Also if you're thinking of taking your classes online, make sure you go through my list of important tips. The list of Teams tips is based on what I learnt teaching classes online. This will make distance learning more fun and easy to manage.
This Microsoft Teams guide for teachers, highlights 10 of my favorite features and tools of Teams for Education. Some of these features are brand new in Teams in and introduced in 2020 and 2021.
You'll learn how to create assignments and grade assignments in Teams. You'll also learn many tips and tricks when it comes to managing assignments. You can schedule assignments, update assignment settings to post about assignments in another channel other than the General channel. You can make sure new students are informed about assignments created before they joined the team. Aside from assignments, you'll learn how to annotate your screen properly so you can bring attention to a certain part of the screen during your team meeting. You can launch polls during a meeting to check how your students are doing and allow them to participate in the meeting. I'll show you how to use Microsoft Whiteboard to encourage students to collaborate and how you can disable chat during a Teams meeting in case your students aren't paying attention and are getting distracted by chat.
If you're a teacher and you use Microsoft Teams for distance learning these tips will help you keep your students engaged and to stay organized.

Hello Leila, thanks for these hot tips! May I give you a suggestion for a new video? I use the attendance list in my classes, I always download it to my default download folder. With Power Query I collect these files once in a month and do some modifications. Mostly you download the attendance list at the end of the meeting, in the meantime people join and leave. I add an index for every lesson. You can see on the time stamp wich lesson or group it was. In the end I use a Pivot table so see the attandance in time and per student. I also can see the duration, what time a student attended and what time he/she left? Your PQ course was of great value here...;) Greetings Bart

Nice tutorial. Teams has a lot to want though. For instance, why do you have to pick a class when creating an assignment? You should be able to create templates and add them to classes afterwards. Same with the surveys.

I hope MS Teams can create an exam that can be timed per item (an item expires after a specified time then another comes up, but the previously closed item cannot be answered anymore). Also, if the exam can randomly sample a number of items from a pool (like getting 10 from a pool of 50) for a specific students to provide randomization, it would minimize cheating. 😅
It still makes use of MS Forms and it's just a fixed set of items for all students. Failing to turn in at MS Forms in the Quiz tab will not retain the answers or uploaded files of the students unlike when using the Assignment tab. 😅
    Great guide, Leila! 🥰🤓😂

Your tutorials have got me a promotion
Literally. I am so thankful to you.
There is something that has been holding me back for 1 year.
How do you get specific data (date ranges for example) from another CLOSED workbook?
I can’t find an effective solution to this problem

    • @LeilaGharani
      @LeilaGharani  3 года назад +1

Thank you! And congratulations for your promotion! The most efficient way is to use Get & Transform from the data tab (aka Power Query). This way you have what you need with a few clicks. The formula way is to do a direct reference to the cell or range and then do the other more complex sides on the main workbook. Another option is to use VBA to open and close the workbook in the background but this does require some knowledge of VBA.

OMG this could be mega useful!
The sheet I use analyses the data of a table as big as 30MB. Each week it grows 0.5MB.
I am thinking -CAN I use google sheets to store this mega table, and keep my workbook solely for my formulas sheet?
What is your experience with google sheets (as a ultra fast tool) to load the data for your excel workbooks to read and work with?

I love the broadened agenda to include the other MSoft products. IMHO, several of the tips in today's tutorial can be applied to other Team meetings, not just for teachers and students. However, I did forward the link to today's tutorial to several teachers.
And as frequently is the case w/Leila's tutorials, I hear about functions that I previously had not been aware, i.e. ZoomIt. Always informative ... always well done ... and always worthwhile.
    PS
Does anyone really believe Leila Gharani scored a 10 out of 20 on the assignment? Not me. My guess is 'payback' time has begun from the victims of her earlier "Pranks'. How do you like it now???

I have a quick question. I may have students that try to complete “Hail Mary assignments.” What that means is they will not doing any work Mon through Thursday and then the assignment is due Fri. I think you showed how to do this, but I am not sure. What I would like to do is have a MW class, turn in work Friday, or TR CLASS TURN IN Fri. A) What can I do to make it so that 25 percent of the work needs to me done by Wed, 50 by Wed, and the balance by Fri end of school day 3p. And then I believe that I could allow students to turn it in by Sun and then close it? B) Do I need to set up three different classes because I teach the same class multiple times? What is the best way to do this. 4) lol, can I just get a teams tutor? Why? I have lesson plans due every Tues and I use a certain school grading book. I would like to set everything up and be ready. Do you know of such a thing? Lastly, do you know how to integrate teams with a Promethean board?

Hi, this is very useful. If I add a meeting to a channel, the tabs (i.e. forms) become unavailable, so I can't add polls to a meeting if the meeting is within a Team Channel (mi classes usually are set inside the course channel). Do you know if it is possible to have these tabs available in a meeting if it is assigned to a channel?
