    Appreciate the insight on how the car feels. At this point, the big difference between people that review cars and people that know what they’re talking about is in the details on how a car feels. It’s so easy to be impressed by a car’s speed/acceleration, but it’s not that easy to talk about the subtleties that make a car great. Great job, Zack!

    I can only imagine what's it's like to have the ability to plunk down $300k or more on a supercar! But, if I were in that position, along with all the most up to date mechanical abilities, I'd want the most up to date electronics to go with it. If the appearance of the 720S is your dream car, this one seemingly has everything you'd want, but why scrimp on the infotainment system? They are using MB engines as of 2021, why not use their electronics too? The cost per car can't be more than a few grand, and it seems a car of this caliber should have the best of all worlds. 👍✌
    P.S. Great vlog, and finances permitting, I would likely still buy one of these just for the pure performance this car offers, and McClaren knows it, but still want to cheat me of current electronics tech! 👎🤷‍♂️😎

    • @redlion145
      @redlion145 3 года назад +1

      It's pretty hard to do that nowadays. Safety standards are constantly evolving, and new technologies add weight. Airbags, backup cameras, blind spot sensors, parking sensors (which you can see on the front end of this car) none of those comes without added weight. I mean this thing is mostly carbon fiber and it's still 1.5 tons. Think how heavy it'd be if it were made of steel or aluminum. There's a lower weight limit that just isn't breakable unless the car is track only (ie not road legal) and thus immune to crash standards. Ariel Atom, basically in a class by itself. Throw in the Lotus/Caterham 7 if you like.

    • @mattevans4377
      @mattevans4377 3 года назад

    • @redlion145
      @redlion145 3 года назад +1

      @@mattevans4377 It doesn't matter if you call it a tech problem or a safety problem, it amounts to the same thing. Crash safety tests have become more stringent, which means more and more reinforced monocoques, which means more structural mass (or more exotic and expensive materials to offset the potential mass increase). This is not a design choice, but a regulatory necessity.
      Similar regulatory evolution is why the side walls of cars have grown while windows (particularly side windows) have shrunk. Visibility isn't really a measurable statistic (or at least, it isn't a statistic that the NTSB cares about), but crash dummies flailing about and ending up hanging out of the car is certainly measurable.

    I long for the day when automotive journalists (all of them it seems) stop destroying very expensive tires so they can drift cars ! The novelty and cool factor have passed. Drifting is not the fastest way around an asphalt racetrack. Lap times would be high and pit stops frequent for tire changes. Professional drifting is an exhibition, not a race. It is time to grow up and move on.
