The McLaren 720S Spider is the drop-top version of the brain-melting supercar. Making a claimed 710 HP, but really much more, and with a new, electrochromic glass roof that retracts in just 11 seconsds, the 720S may be the most versatile mid-engined car on the market today.

I didnt know they could make the 720s any cooler looking. Somehow the spider is cooler, magic roof, see-through buttresses, if i were rich I would be returning my coupe and getting the spider now
Wouldn't you miss the hollow door design above our head when you open the door? You know the curve in structure design? I don't know what it's called. How about the luggage space behind you? Do you find that you put nothing there ever? Is the visibility really worse than the spider? Looking to buy one new next year.

Maybe if they become popular enough, we won't have to spend $300K to buy a car in some other color than black, white, 1-2 primary or secondary colors, or 12 shades of silver.

Stuff you don't even realise at the time. The buttresses on my sw20 MR2 were glass too.
Also the removable glass roof in my GT was amazing at giving it a roomy feel even with the room on.
MR2s were amazing cars to own.

I've seen this car in person for a short period of time but I'm going to see this and 600 Spider at my local dealer's launch party in depth this month. Can't wait!

The Performante Spyder weighs 3322lbs...so it's only about 90lb heavier, not 500. An extra 500 pounds on top of the Mac would put it more on par with a Mustang GT....and almost 700lbs heavier than the Performante coupe ;)

I was hoping for "Fancy Kristen", but I guess regular is okay as well. Great review as always. I know basic colors like Silca White cost about $2300, so I can only imagine how much they charge for that gorgeous colour.

The top can go up or down at 30mph? Even with a 50 mph headwind? It's airspeed that's important, not ground speed!
Wheels would look sharp beside the teddy bear ronals in the 90s car mag ads. The rear end looked like it got rear ended in the walk around. The blue is beautiful, ruined by the cavernous headlights and over useage of Black all over the car. This car looks best in a black or dark grey to me*.

I wish you could maintain mclarens yourself. I would love to get a 720s in a few years.
A 720s is 400 grand. If you could afford this car, you couldn't afford to fix it yourself. (Fixing it yourself would be a complete waste of your time).
@@Dance1617 a new 720s is 400 grand. Yes well outside my price realm. But used mclarens less so. I understand some degrees of difficulty on working on supercars... but a diy maintenance is feasible in a huracan or a ferrari(the normal series not your enzos/laferrari etc).
So them making it nigh impossible to maintain at home is not an excuse i would buy.

Henry Catchpole from Carfection said he did notice a difference between the Spyder and the Coupe, despite the rigid structure, and that he felt that the 600LT Spyder was much better and without any noticeable difference at all. Do you agree?
he did but he didn't like the 720s that much so I'm not sure if he doesn't warm to this class of Mc generally.

Why all the cuts of another driver on another road on another day?
I’d imagine they didn’t have time to shoot drive-bys during the actual review. That or they didn’t want to shoot them during the rain. McLaren most likely just provided them with the footage. Also, to your point about “another driver...” have you ever seen a one take? All the drive-bys are of another driver than Matt.
