The McLaren 600LT is the angriest, most aggressive McLaren I've driven before. It's extremely light, under 3,100 LBS even with optional AC and Radio, very loud with its top-mount exhausts, and sends vibrations through your whole body. But it reeks of motorsport, goes like a cannonshot, and is one of the sharpest scalpels available at any price.

But... Will it? Where can the game be moved on to? Like Matt says, the "regular" McLarens are so awesome and fast they kind of negate the need for these LT versions. Yes the 675 was a big step on from the 650, but there is an issue with a potential 760LT (which it will be called). McLaren is not in the best of wind with it's customers. They develop new models so quickly which are so much better than he old ones, that people who bought the old ones are starting to feel cheated, not least because their cars depreciate like fucking anvils. There was a lot of noise when the 720 came out because customers who bought the P1, which are a lot of their wealthiest, most important repeat customers, were annoyed that there now was a "regular" McLaren that could hang with their hypercar, which by no means is very old yet. So the question becomes, can McLaren allow themselves to make a "regular" car which stomps all over the P1, and in turn their most valuable customers? We shall see..
@@torod213 I don't think that's the case. The P1 is a different animal entirely and I doubt many P1 owners care about the lap time differences. The small number of owners who actually track their car will not or cannot extract all of its performance anyways.
McLarens always get faster with each new iteration, so it's no surprise the new flagship supercar can hang with the older hypercar.
The same thing happened with the Enzo and 458 around Ferraris own test track.
@@torod213 What a load of shit. The 720s came out a full 5 years after the P1, plenty of time and yes in supercar land 5 years is very old indeed. The P1 owners were not complaining or upset, they were buying 720s and Sennas because they are filthy fucking rich and they are the lucky McLaren owners that bought the model that doesn't depreciate.
@@torod213 The rate of redundancy in earlier models is as much about the size of the product range than anything else. Now they have three tiers, each model is in production for longer before they retire it. Back when they only had the MP4-12C every new car replaced the earlier one.

720 spider is my fav. dream car. No need for options except for the lift. You really do have the best of everything with no compromises. Except perhaps reliability but they are getting much better and improving all the time, I hear. The lastest cars may be fine. Drag Times and Apex have had no problems and they pushed their 720s hard.
The 600LT is the scalpel of knives, focused n' pure in purpose. The 720S is the utility knife, the Leatherman's Tool if you will of supercars - suitable for many occasions & rarely leaving you wanting regardless of the situation.

Finally! I hear a real growl from their turbo V8. Can't hear as much of it inside...but....outside.. mucho more betta! If not for some QC, McLaren could be #1 buyers choice.
I can’t be the only one who finds the depreciation of these cars attractive. A 2 year old 600LT is like the same price as an R35 Nismo. Fuck yeah. You now got the extra money to fix it whenever it goes wrong lol.

The Senna is quicker on track, Chris Harris legitimately compared it to his GT3 racer. The McLaren was much slower but it's still worthy of a comparison like that. That's insane.

I wouldn't say a mclaren is something only a 1 percenter can afford. I mean, $300,000 is a hell of a lot but it's not completely unobtainable if you want it bad enough.

First! Matt, when you put it in launch mode it auto upshifts regardless of whether you have it in manual or not. Also 99% of the time when the car says “launch mode not available” it’s just because you don’t have your foot on the brake really hard.

The 600LT is a track day car. Not sure the 720S is a fair comparison. Also, it seems to me the 675LT would be a closer model or design year to compare. I think the 600LT/650S is closer. And let’s face, those upward exhausts are so bad ass in person when you stand near the car or see the flames at night.
A 600lt at 260 to 270 is where the sweet spot is for this car. This one at 310 is 720s territory and makes you pause and say... hmm, maybe I should have gotten a 720

The 600LT is more visceral, it's a more raw car. Check out Parker's channel vehicle virgins. The 600LT with a roof scoop is absolutely insane, iits like there's a dragon in the engine bay, it sounds amazing.

What I learned from this video: get a 720s instead
Based on a brief road drive, going for the 720S is an entirely reasonable conclusion to reach. Not sure this drive quite did the 600LT justice. Maybe on track it might have the edge as a driving experience, if not the edge in laptime. 720S=speeeed whichever way you cut it.
DrPittenstein I made a video of the 600LT on track as well last month if you prefer that! Back to back with 720S Spider. Came to same conclusion. But check those vids out!

Matt, when referring to sports series and super series cars, is that a price difference or performance difference? The 720S is very near hypercar territory, so does that make the 600LT compete with 488's and Huracan's? or rather R8's and 911 GT3's so to speak? Great video as always.
thelittleterrorist22 the sports series and super series is just what McLaren calls them. The sports series is the 570s, 540c etc, and the super series is the mp4-12c , 650s , 720s etc

Its a fantastic UNLIMITED SPORTS series car but like most sequels its not as good as the original LIMITED SUPER series 675LT
