Porsche guy but since 2017 if I had to choose Turbo S or 720S I'd betray Porsche. Ever since it came out this was my favourite supercar and the 750s only makes it better with the more close off front end, the detail on the wing, fender vents, small details to an already perfect looking car. Really cool that they chose my hometown to present it as well
I agree - been a Porsche fan my entire life and lucky enough to have had good seat time in a 991.2 GT3RS and a bit in the 720S. Pressed I’d still have a 3RS all in all but McLaren have steering and brakes equally down to a tee, not to mention superior speed but the reliability and depreciation - and Flat 6 scream - go the Porsche’s way. Both together would be the ultimate dream!
@@jackgreenough4361 See the video, Robert Mitchell - Apex Nuerburg And Running Supercars Only At The 'Ring | Car Chat Podcast Ep.81" Running costs for the macc are not an issue. He ran GT3RS and 675LT for many laps. He gives good tips on how to look after both cars to keep costs down.
Robert points out that reliability was good for his 675LT, the issue was the parts that get battered on track were more expensive. Bushings, pads etc. Although the GT3RS discs cost more. Note can use aftermarket parts that are pretty good if want to save cash. Can also upgrade the bushings to ones that last longer. I am not sure but I guess Mac tyres are cheaper being more narrow?
@@andrewnorris5415 Also regarding 3RS discs and suspension the one I’ve been in is on MR suspension and ST Brakes discs. Pads and callipers are stock. Definitely last longer with less fade. 720S was stock to my knowledge.

Great episode! Great writing. It's hard to transition from page to screen. The words convey so much when writing for print. The screen, however, takes over the major role of conveying the goodness of the 750S. But you did a great job. Wonderful visuals and wonderful editing. It looks like you all had a massive job: all those angles, all those camera setups. Sound design was done really well: you captured Henry's voice even when he was driving the convertible with the roof off. Well done all around. 🙂
Great review... I consider this a life cycle impulse..... are there financial reasonings behind this and not a completely new car? It's likely... But this certainly looks like it still deserves a spot on the lineup.
Impulse is the right word, it's not even a refresh....and for sure it's a financial issue, it costs a lot of invest which McLaren did not or could not spend
it was their best most sorted model. Not too much needed to be done. Why spoil something so good? They took the best from 675LT and senna (steering, brakes, optional seats etc) and used it to improve the 720. Those weight savings are not to be laughed at either. In an already light super car they improve the handling, braking, accel noticeably. And such weight savings are hyper expensive options on other super cars, but built in with this. It's a car that does GT and track very well. To improve from the 720 was great.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722don't think it's financial, they have made so many one off models since the 720s and released the Artura. I feel like the engineers didn't need to reinvent it yet
Henry includes so many relevant details that were omitted in the others' reviews. This combined with the polish and panache make Hagerty the current benchmark of car porn...err automotive journalism.
The one thing Mclarens have been praised for ever since the MP412C is the steering. And now they’re going to ditch the hydraulic steering after this car. Great job McLaren.

You can always tell people who don't own these cars - they think you have to scroll through menus to access the lift. It's a push button on the lower right hand stalk. Been that way since the 650 at least. Actually easier than a button on the dash!
You gotta love how motoring journalists criticise a new car for not being much different to its predecessor and then wax lyrical about the latest iteration of the Porsche 911. It does bring into serious question the validity of their criteria and opinion
Can we take a moment to applaud McLaren for making different wheels for the right and left side (as seen on the spider version) so we finally have both sides spinning the correct way,].
Were the reliability and quality issues fixed? The tranny stuck in reverse, the cracking windshield, the common misfire leading to checkengine, the interior faling apart, the squeaking door handles and panels... (and the list goes on). So where are the more important updates compre to the 720 ?
Almost all of what you've said are common problems amongst plenty of supercars. My chief cardiologists 488 isn't even that old and his seat stitching came undone and has a huge gaping hole by the bolstering. His dash creeks, leather is faded and had electrical issues which would cause a CEL then suddenly resolve itself. Not that I could afford one, but McLaren shares its problems just like any other manufacturer in its category.
Exactly! A few RUclipsrs have targeted McLaren. It was all about clicks at first and it spiralled! A few modded their McLaren’s and then blame McLaren…Sure they have small annnoying issues which mostly stemmed from them sitting for too long in forecourts. In the UK Porsche had the most warranty claims per vehicle out of every manufacturer this last year! And people are led to believe they’re perfectly engineered… we live in a backwards world lol. If you want reliable buy a Chevy, Ford, Kia! Definitely not a supercar which is not mass produced
@@WeirdBrick before I bought my current car I've checked 3 720S. And ALL 3 had problems and none of them were over 6000 km.. So this is not youtubers targeting mclaren....
The C8 Corvette can raise the nose 2 inches in 2.5 seconds, and the GPS can remember up to 1000 places that the lift is needed and will automatically deploy at up to 24 mph, and will lower automatically on accelerating back past 24 mph. This is in a superbly capable car that sells for under $80,000USD, and runs 0-60 in the high 2 seconds...
I'm definitely in the camp of refinement compared to chasing the latest technology. I'd much rather manufactures of sports cars stick to an ethos of feel and emotion rather than pure specs or the latest tech just for the sake of having it. If the tech supports the feel and emotion of the vehicle then I'm all for it. However, I'm not a braggadocios person by nature. I like what I like and that's what I want, regardless of what my neighbor has. For those that "want to be seen" or want to compare "sizes" I guess they want what others don't have and therefore must have the latest. I applaud McLaren for keeping the weight down. I wish our regulators would understand that by constantly adding requirements to cars they are increasing the weight which increases the consumables and increases energy consumption which is also worse for the environment.
I was always a Ferrari fan, but if I had to choose (not that I will ever be wealthy enough to have that problem xD) between a new mid-engined Ferrari or a new mid-engined McLaren, I would take the McLaren
Ferrari are good for emotion with nice sounding V12 engines and good looks. And the badge. But yeah this car handles, steers, brakes, rides, communicates so well. And quietly they have been making it more reliable. Glad it's not really a new model, that might be trouble. Even the bits they added have been tried and tested on the 675LT and senna.
McLaren seems like they are always a notch off the best-of-best when it comes to building a complete supercar. A refinement iteration appears to be their way of catching up to the competition.
The touchscreen is the only part that sucks, it's slower than some you can find on budget hatchbacks. And those tires get thinner and thinner. Now road tires are thinner than racing slicks!
Performance road tyres are always going to have thinner sidewalls than racing slicks because the contact patch of a racing slick is one massive monolithic tread block that will reach peak slip angles too quickly with a narrow sidewall. It's nothing new.
Awesome review - is that a new car? No - but if it sells like McLaren expected they did the right thing, it's not even a life-cycle refresh, same car. Is that bad? I never saw one in person, only through reviews - so it must be a great car.
The biggest difference between the 720s from 2016 and the 750s in 2023, is the price. The 720s was already an insanely good supercar that "overstepped" its boundaries, even outperforming the P1 at certain tracks. It was an absolute game changer. However, I do think they've dropped the ball a bit on the 750s, where the 720s was a too big of a jump, the 750s is too small of one. For all these years since the 12c, Mclaren have been a step ahead of Ferrari in terms of sheer power as well as being lighter, thanks to the carbon tub and turbos. Even the 570s was faster in a straight line than the 660hp 488 GTB. In the span of 7 years, Mclaren went up 30hp, while Ferrari in the 296gtb have gone up some 170hp. And it has been shown that even the 765lt can't match the 296gtb for sheer acceleration (yeah, shocking). They said the 750s has a shorter final drive, so it should help, but the 296gtb will still have the legs over this. I hope the Mclaren claws back points in the corners, but it'll be hard because the lap times the 296gtb has been pumping out has been nothing short of jaw dropping. It seems that Mclaren went from being the leader of pushing supercar boundaries, to the follower/chaser.
Oh relax, this is Mclarens first real stop gap car, Ferrari did it with the F8 (and people applauded them) and they have done it in the part. Mclaren Automotive is a 13 year old company competing with 85 year old Ferrari and 92 year old Porsche, and this is the first time in those 13 years that their mid range offering "seems" to be slower than rivals.....ON PAPER. Mclaren will be fine.
@@CITRUS-- when the 720s came out, it wiped the floor with the 675lt. However, this 750s was obviously made to not disappoint 765lt owners, has been held back which I think is a mistake. If Ferrari are already faster than the 765lt, what does that mean for the 750s for the upcoming future? They could have easily made it a 800s, meanwhile it being less track focused, but would be faster in a straight line, then you'd have a differentiation, and wouldn't disappoint the 765lt owners.
I like it, I'm ok with minimal styling changes...but nobody is making those seats any lighter and it's still over 50kg heavier than my massage-seat equipped C-segment hatchback. Not that the weight of this is an issue, I'm just thinking I'd probably rather be 20kg comfier. Edit: No I can't afford this, but neither can you 😄 I'd love a McLaren, if they released a problem-free 570S replacement that'll be a dream car. Until then, nah.
720s was a wonderful car from performance standpoint , they didnt have to improve much . But they had to improve reliability and that whole catching on fire thing. We will see how that went
This is McLaren's F8 Tributo. It'll be here for a few years to help them get in a position for a true next gen platform. But there are far worse looking and performing stop gaps, I wouldn't be mad about this one.

Your comments and explanations are so spot on, as always ! Thanks 😎
Yet another brilliant video, well done Henry
@@andrewnorris5415 Love Rob and Misha’s stuff, haven’t watched that episode. Cheers for the recommendation!
@@andrewnorris5415 Also regarding 3RS discs and suspension the one I’ve been in is on MR suspension and ST Brakes discs. Pads and callipers are stock. Definitely last longer with less fade. 720S was stock to my knowledge.
So did they strengthen the rods and pistons, how do the doors line up? Do the doors close 1st time, does the active body work? Hows the even thinner windscreen that breaks at the gust of a wind? And so on and so on,
Sick car, sick video! 5 stars
Definitely my lottery win car and perchance in that spider colour. I rather liked the drone shots! Henry’s is the first review I’ve watched cos Henry. Still think they look like a space ship in the flesh so don’t need the styling updated much I’d say…
Henry at the top of of this game!
Peak Catchpole.
How many non hybrid Supercars have been released in recent times? Be glad it exists I’d say
In the world of super cars, McLaren is like a Grand Seiko watch, underrated masterpieces
Pretty much the perfect review.
Well done 'Enry! Gawd bless ya!
Still a stunning looking car.. I loved my 720 even with its faults
8:44 Now THAT is HOW you DRIVE a MCLAREN. 🏁🏁
Henry includes so many relevant details that were omitted in the others' reviews. This combined with the polish and panache make Hagerty the current benchmark of car porn...err automotive journalism.
I'm glad they didn't change the look of it too much, the 720s is still the best looking supercar on sale, by a mile
As you said, it just feels like the F8 Tributo to the 488 and 296 while they sort out the real 720s successor.
The one thing Mclarens have been praised for ever since the MP412C is the steering. And now they’re going to ditch the hydraulic steering after this car. Great job McLaren.
where did you hear that?
I did not know that
@@larssonk2210:12 - "...this is one of the last cars to retain hydraulic power assistance..." Nothing more specific than that, but it's clearly stated in this video that hydraulic steering will be disappearing from McLaren's line-up in due course.
@@vyrnmn I think he meant that it was the last car in the whole automotive world that is still being sold with a hydraulic steering, not that it will mclaren's last car with the hydraulic steering.
@@vyrnmn I don't think he meant this is the last McLaren, rather that McLaren is the last to retain this type of system. He wouldn't have said "cars" plural if he meant this is the last car
Looks great in that colour. Bloody sensational video.
ABSOLUTLEY LOVE the 2:35:1 ratio...keep it up. The rich peoples aspect ratio lol.
These cars are good to buy used. They depreciate so much.
True, people who buy them new and super loaded and do not care?
Can we possibly get a Henry Catchpole and Chris Harris collaboration going on?
Yesss please
He won't as long he is working for TG
@tubejorrit haven't you heard? Top Gear is officially done. Hence why Chris Harris is out of a job now and is free to do this. These two working together would be fantastic!
what an amazing machine and great review 🙏
You can always tell people who don't own these cars - they think you have to scroll through menus to access the lift. It's a push button on the lower right hand stalk. Been that way since the 650 at least. Actually easier than a button on the dash!
McLaren did this right , the 720s was so good it didn't need to be reinvented just updated
That's so sick 🔥
Circuito do Estoril sempre a dar cartas 🙌🏽
Awesome video Henry!!
That blue is so much better than the blue
You gotta love how motoring journalists criticise a new car for not being much different to its predecessor and then wax lyrical about the latest iteration of the Porsche 911. It does bring into serious question the validity of their criteria and opinion
Lovely pro view of a car that is wayyyy above my skill level. Thanks
And still no all wheel drive….
@@DodgeOwnersBeLike interesting, my Porsche don't have any problems like this.
Quality content as usual 👌
Thanks for the proper video ratio ❤
Great video guys 👏
Magnificent film, as always!
720S was already the best of this class of car so improvement on it just means the rest have more ground to make up
Always blown away🙌
Henry and Steven Sutcliffe are the storytelling duos.
The wheels on that convertible 👌😍
You are my favorite youtuber ❤
Love it. But I'll keep my 650s as it's plenty fast over 700hp & Rwd only supercar 😂 plus it's timeless styling.
Plus, McLaren has a higher rate of depreciation. The only thing Mclaren has going for it is you can actually go into a dealership and order one.
Looks fantastic 🚀
Beautiful video! The ripspeed wheels on the spider are utterly disgraceful though.
Until then, nah.
mclaren steering sets it apart than any other brand. genius hybrid combo of electrically assisted hydraulic system. genius
Lovely production, I'll take 3! (assuming my numbers come up tonight, which of course they won't 🙄)
This car is basically McLaren saying they couldn’t call the it the 720S “S.”😂
The 720 & Aventador are aging well…this 750 proved that the design is still very relevant
Still an absolute beauty of a car
720s was a wonderful car from performance standpoint , they didnt have to improve much . But they had to improve reliability and that whole catching on fire thing. We will see how that went
I like this, I think I would love the lt when it arrives.
The weight of this thing is astonishing.
This is McLaren's F8 Tributo. It'll be here for a few years to help them get in a position for a true next gen platform. But there are far worse looking and performing stop gaps, I wouldn't be mad about this one.
Counted at least three different hardtop cars in this (awesome) piece - how many times did you destroy the tires Henry?!
1,277kg is crazy light.
13:40 Bruh, that bump is practically flat and nonexistent compared to the ones in my country 😆
Thanks. I ordered 3.
Henry, thats all you need...
