    Hi Danny. I once took lessons from a young assistant pro at my course. I asked him to explain how he hit fades and draws with his driver. He said on the downswing he turned a bit faster for a fade and a bit slower for a draw. Sounds like he was doing what you describe only he was not teaching and explaining it nearly so well as you. Thanks for this. Driving range here I come!

    Thanks Danny, Worked on this today with new Mizuno ST200 with Diamana black 60s + unlimited shaft. Not getting the curve but more straight to a pull, I maybe be not making sure face pointing down at take away! Rotating face open might be it. I get a lot of starts left comes back to middle not a slice, I’ll align right close face but still no hook, maybe ball up off big toe not the setup I need, maybe move it back in my stance. I got plenty of time as my new maverick pro version of the irons are not here yet all I got is two putter two wedges and two drivers have a nice weekend mate cheers

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  4 года назад

      Jerry Talberg yes it sounds like you need to develop more of a feel of getting the clubhead heading right, also check your body rotation, is your torso rotating too early in the downswing

    • @jatalberg
      @jatalberg 4 года назад

      Danny,
      I do worry about the rotation and am I rotating to get the belt facing the target and may be throwing my hip around quickly! I’ve been told maybe keep right foot grounded which might help the early rotation. So come in around 7 o’clock to ball, close face to path. Range session again today, high of 40 so we’ll see. Thanks again Danny

      Hey Danny I took a short video of my swing at the range this morning do you have an email address I could send it to just to see what you think, I’ve actually got a slow motion one front on that I had a guy fill me trying out that Bridgestone ball fitting tool they have where you send them a video and then I’ve got one from behind and I can tell already I never knew I had a backswing that I was taking it so far back like John Daly and Mickelson I thought I had a short abbreviated backswing maybe that’s why when I choke down 3 inches I had a much better ball

    That is difficult for us when this all happens within 0.4 seconds Danny. As we know the low point is in line with our natural sternal notch so, surely a ball position, somewhere, would give us the same wouldn’t it? Thanks again Danny.

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  6 лет назад

      keyways1, unfortunately not as a ball that’s pushed further forward would mean you will catch the ball later in the arc and thus set the ball off left of the target.
      As you say this happens within .4 seconds so it require time practicing starting off sow and building it up as I mention here.
      If time is an issue I recommend going for the first option as it’s just easier to implement

    Isnt the same thing as align your feet to where you want the ball path to start, but face the club to where you want the ball to end . Then swing all the way through the ball making sure to roll your hands slightly thru impact?

    • @kboy19831983
      @kboy19831983 5 лет назад

      Terry Thomas - That was the assumption with old ball-flight laws, but trackman etc has disproved this. The overriding factor in start direction is the clubface & the difference between the face & swingpath causes the curvature. With your method, the ball would start on where you wanted the ball to end (ie where you aimed the clubface) & then draw further left. You’d need to aim your club face a few yards right of target rather than straight at it. Hope that makes sense!!

    Thankyou Danny would really love to be able to work this into my game. I think the key tip for me is practise and like you said start with slow swings and work your way up. I tend to be impatient and try to go with new swing thoughts without putting in the ground work and then ditch when I feel it's not working. I'm going to really give this a proper go, thx again.

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  6 лет назад +1

      Great to hear that Jullian, I’m guilty too of wanting things to happen quickly...I just know from experience what’s required to make a change.
      Habits after all can be tricky to break.
      So it’s wonderful to hear your ready to embrace the work.
      Never forget when you knock on the door of progress it’s likely work will answer 😁

    • @julianroberts698

      Just an update had a go at the first method no look probably need more practise, struggled to close the club face at address. The second method though which I thought I would struggle more due to the timing needed I nailed. It's unbelievable Danny i'm not getting a draw but I am hitting it dead straight down the middle with lots of distance. I highly recommend people who suffer with a slice try this. I found once I had the courage to aim right enough in my set up the closing the club face at impact wasn't as tricky as I expected. Can't thank you enough, monthly medal Sunday I can't wait to get out there.

    If I fade naturally, what would happen if I turned (closed) the club face even more than you suggest to force the ball into a draw instead of just ending up with a straightened out shot? Would too much clubface closing make me lose power and distance?

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  6 лет назад +1

      GORD Ito, the best thing to do is just give it a go and see what happens. It’s slightly different for everyone

      You didn't answer his questions which I thought was important. Different for everyone true, but he's looking for approx positions to start.

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  6 лет назад +1

      I possibly should have clarified it a little further,
      If you close the face and it straightens out your shot then closing it further should promote a draw. The only risk here is there may not be enough loft on the club if it closes too much which could result in a loss of difference.
      This is what you should experiment with. Nothing stopping you buying a high lofted driver to compensate for this though

    • @stevetaylor5924
      @stevetaylor5924 6 лет назад

      GORD Ito - I naturally hit a fade as well. Typically this means that you are swinging out to in, which is what promotes the fade. If you were to close the club face closed of square with an out to in swing, you would almost certainly hit a nasty hook. The draw is really set up more by the path of the club rather than the angle of the face. Don't get me wrong, face angle is important, but to get the consistent draw, you need an inside out path. Get that going, then work on the face angle. Hope that helps.

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  6 лет назад

      Thanks for getting involved Steve...the solution is a matter of personal choice as if you get them to swing on an in to out swing path but don’t deal with their open face you now have them hitting it further right than before...
      Now they are hitting a push slice which starts right and then slices even further right.
      I have found that if you can eliminate the left to right shape on the ball first the golfer will have more confidence and commitment to change their path and swing to the right.
      You’ve got to bare in mind that most slicers make their slice worse because in an attempt to avoid hitting it right they swing even more left (right handers).
      Asking them to swing to the right, the place where they are desperate to avoid although is a valid step in curing the slice is really tricky to implement as a first step for a slicer.
      If you get them to hit it straight even if it’s a straight pull it’s much more satisfactory to a slicer. If they eliminate their curve and therefore the right side of the fairway I’ve found they can change their path much more easily.
      Thanks again for sharing your views...it’s great to have you in the community.

    Hey, love your style. It fits me. But I am disappointed. I see that you have this video on how to hit a draw with a driver. I found nothing on how to hit a proper fade, Jack N go to shot. I need both driver and irons. How about some lessons on the controlled fade. Many pros use it all the time. I can draw the ball, sometimes, but like Freddy Couples, you live by the draw, and you die by the draw.
