@YikesBikes every single time some one tries it this way including Greg norman, nick faldo and Phil Mickelson, they will adjust slightly either before they hit it or compensate during the swing. The club face will be closed to your set up, this feels closed but it will be open to target.
@YikesBikes yes that's great. But if the club face aimed at the tree you would have hit the tree. You said your self you aimed right of it closing some. Closed to path but still right of the tree. Otherwise YOU HIT THE TREE
Line up right, club face pointed at the target, and just swing. Line up left, club face pointed at the target, and just swing. It is really that easy! Draw and fade as much as you want using your normal swing.
Except, as I've come to find out after 50+ years playing, that this is wrong. It will produce a draw but the ball will start at the target (where the club face is pointing) and then turn and will miss the target left. This was happening to Blair on the screen. If you want the ball to start right of target and come back to it, the club face needs to be aiming right but inside the club path.
@@rm00k strictly speaking it isn't wrong. He never mentioned where to aim the face, all he said was to close it. For a draw to start right & end up on target, the method is exactly the same, with the exception of making sure when you close the face, it's still right of intended target.
@@kboy19831983 Right. But I was responding more to Charlie's comment than to the video. I've seen many instructions over the years on how to work the ball and they usually say aim the club face at the target and then line up either right or left.
When you make a proper shoulder turn , draws tend to happen as a result of club dropping in the slot on the inside on down swing. Focus on shoulder turn to play good golf.
If I close the club face to where I want it to end up.. it starts where I want it to end up and goes left.. left going left . I finally found a swing for a push draw that works for me. Aim "slightly" right of Target and closed stance. Club face slightly open with a lag shaft lean at address. Inside out swing and it's a perfect mid launch flight that starts right with low draw spin. Max distance with control. I only close the club face at address if I wanna hit a low stinger fade or butter cut.
Exactly mate. This is why people struggle to hit draws and fades. Even nick faldo and Phil Mickelson explain it wrong but can play the shots besides this due to immense skill. This coach has the basic laws of ball flight confused which probably caused his struggles as a player
Exactly what I do too. Line up aimed slightly to the right of target, close the stance by dropping my back foot about 2-4" and swing away. Draw every time.
I recall that Lee Trevino once said " You can talk to a fade but a draw won't listen." Still think you are better off sacrificing a bit of distance with a fade, if it means playing the next shot from the fairway.I also think you should try and use a shape for your shots, rather than trying to hit it straight down the middle,as it increases the target.
My problem with the technique shown here is if I regrip with the closed face at address, I can feel the club face is still closed at the top of the backswing. It really throws off my release, and I usually snap hook into the trees. I find if I focus on an inside to out swing, and fully release the club, I get a draw most of the time. 12 handicap so take it for what it's worth :)
I have no problems drawing a ball if my target is left of my setup. When the target is on the right side of me at address I can’t depend on executing the draw. If am on a tee box, when I attempt a draw, I am mostly aiming down the right side of the fairway….which obviously causes lots of problems for me. I can try putting the club more in my fingers, I understand the concept. But I really think it is an alignment issue or a commitment to the shot.
I'm a very inexperienced self taught golfer and intuitively found a similar trick for draw and fade shots.... if I set up with ball further toward front foot than I normally would so I contact ball later in swing it draws (hooks). If I move it back so I strike it a tad earlier that I usually would it fades (slices). Essentially intentionally hooking or slicing the shot - but if you set up to do it intentionally you can compensate by setting up aiming the opposite direction you intend to move the ball. I think this is essentially the same principle - but moving the ball forward / back in conjunction with aiming away from the direction you want to move ball is what works for me
I can also set up with ball back / forward to hit up or down on a shot without slicing or hooking it if I want to. Its just easier and more natural to me to dynamically open or close face during contact if you set up with ball forward or back intending to hit a slicing or hooking shot and you ca just feel it better than trying to do same from a neutral setup
I don't fiddle with the grip just aim right of target and lead the toe of the club in on impact this promotes "feel" for the shot shape, the more feel you have the more control you have of the club head, fade is left of target toe lagging creating the shape you require.
Probably works but very complicated. Just set up your feet aligned with your target line, place ball a fraction back of the the centre point of your stance, align your knees, hips and shoulders to the just right of your target line (so you are facing the ball in effect) and just swing naturally. A fade you just placed the ball just ahead of the centre point.
The first and second shots show the face: where the ball started: to the left and pulled because path was to to the right of the left face..she actually demonstrated why he was wrong!!!
If you actually read The Golfing Machine you would have understood ALL of this method you discuss in this video. Homer explains this very clearly in chapter ten. Cheers. F
Well Martin, you read Homer and even got your GSEM. He clearly and properly explains the draw in chapter ten. I know you need to dissemble for tv purposes but honestly it’s all in the book. Cheers F
Been two years, are you still struggling? Sounds like you are likely swinging inside out (or aimed right) and making contact with an open face. If the ball never tries to go left, then everything you are doing is pointing to your right.
I find hitting a draw is pretty much the same as a straight shot as far as my setup goes. The difference occurs in the finish. The hands high in the finish for straight and the hands lower and more around the body for a draw. A neutral left hand is key in both and the club face square to the backswing path for both. It seems easier to hit the draw than the straight shot. For the fade I just open the club face slightly and hold on tighter with the left hand not letting it release.
Pace of Play Alert! Please play ready golf, keep up with the golfers in front of you, and if you can’t keep up let golfers waiting behind you play through. Thank you!
@@fradaja what do you mean by "getting the hips out of the way"? Does this mean in the Downswing you are first turning both your hips so they are facing the target before your chest & shoulders (ie. do the shoulders remain pretty square to target line at impact whilst hips are turning through to the target). Or does this phrase mean moving your hips laterally first to get them "out of the way"??.
@@mplunky1 I mean the hips create room by always being in front of the arms , it’s pretty difficult create an inside to out with the hips and arms synced , tiger talks about keeping the arms in front I believe that’s how he hits a fade .
Every good plus handicap player knows that the real secret of hitting a draw (as opposed to an outright hook) is to be sure to keep your head behind/back (away from the target) the ball. This is the only way to keep the swing going inside to out and not across the ball left. Anything less will result in a duck hook. On tee shots to "ride" a right to left wind with a high draw, teeing the ball very high also helps but it is critical that the head stays back behind the ball. Remember, the ball ALWAYS starts out on a path as to where the club tracks through the ball (assuming a square face). Staying back with your head is how you get that inside-to-out swing which is required for a draw alone (not a hook).
That still seems difficult. Not saying I can do it better by any means, but I always aim everything at the target. It's just the swing path that puts the different spin on it. They're not HUGE draws or fades, but it works for wind and pin placement. Always love watching!!!
Hopefully you have learned this by now but, just in case, the goal in changing your alignment is to maintain the same swing path, since changing the swing path is far more difficult for the average golfer. Hell, even pros like Tiger adjust their setup for shapes instead of their swing path. Nicklaus keeps it simple as well by telling you to always aim your club face at the target but open your stance for a fade and close it for a draw. Once you get it down, the setup adjustment makes them quite easy to not just hit, but to go from one shape to the other. When trying to change just your swing path, you run into consistency issues and can do considerable damage to your swing, mentally and from a muscle memory perspective, than it is worth.
I too have more success hitting a draw by changing swing path. It’s a simple swing thought for me…once I turn, keep the left shoulder back and swing under. The result is a beautiful high draw. The funny thing is though, I absolutely setup up for a cut shot. I have always been a natural fader of the ball. Feels right at home to setup a little open and cut it. Draws were a in impossibility for me until I started keeping that shoulder back which totally redirects the club out to in.
I draw and fade just by moving my ball position back a few inches or forward a few inches. My swing stays the same every time. No grip or swing adjustment. Just ball position
I think most golfers underestimate the power of aiming the club face. The ball will generally end up where it is pointed if you swing the same way every time.
Just like I've found, a famous golf instructor who gives 1000's of hours of lessons and countless drills to students still can't consistently draw the ball after 40+ years. Here's a tip: Many golf instructors are not that good themselves, but a few are. Don't believe me? Yes I see, it must be the sticks on the ground. Not that I’m only 15 feet away so the viewer gets a full view of what?. I’ve used the simpler one, the grass was growing in the wrong direction 🤔
Exit right of target - Ermm yeah every great player and golf coach such as Pete Cowen says you must exit low and left - exit right means resisting shoulder is up meaning a block, shank or snap hook 😂
Tiger woods hits a draw and always starts with a slightly open face because he wants the ball to start to the right 👍👍👍 the opposite to what Martin says , but there isn’t one way to do it ⛳️⛳️👍👍
Shouldn't the face be facing the direction you want it started? YOu had it pointing left of center. Seems the clubface should be aligned on the line you want the ball to start, and the body (path) aligned right of that.
This is not a draw. This is a small hook, but you are just aimed right of the target. A draw is a shot that starts right of the target WHILE you're aimed at the target and finished at the target. His explanation of what Sevi and Carrie taught at the beginning IS a draw. IT is a good way to cheat a draw though, if you can't hit it.
@@connorb3659 no that's a hook. A draw starts right of the target and ends on target. A fade starts left of the target and ends on target. (assuming right handed hitting). A push draw starts right of the target and never makes it back on target and still kind tries to go left to make it back (and obviously never moves further right to be a slice). Any push means you missed the target. It's like a pull as well. Any pull is a bad shot.
@@MsMatth33 Except a pull draw never starts on target, which is not what I am saying. Question for you. A golfer has a 160 yard shot, pin left side of the green. The player aligns directly middle of the green, approximately 12ft right of the hole. The ball STARTS directly down the point of his alignment and then moves 8ft to the left in the air, landing just right of the pin. What is that shot shape?
It's still too complicated, Marty. I think Jack Nicklaus had a better idea--simply aim a bit right and close the clubface slightly. Same swing. Don't fiddle around with the grip unnecessarily.
Mr. Hall, why not just aim your club face to the spot you want the ball to land, turn your body slightly to the right and swing to the right? The way you are teaching it here seems not as confusing as Seve, but still confusing. No real need to change the hands in my opinion. Mark Crossfield just put an EXCELLENT youtube video about the myths of hitting draws. I recommend it greatly! Other than that, enjoying your videos and instruction. Sometimes less is more though. And, what do I know? Not a pro. JMO
Newman He did do what you suggested. Aimed right with the body and closed the club face. Body right is the starting point of the swing and closed club face is where the ball will end up.
The way to describing is good for higher handicaps, but you can't work a ball as much with that technique. Let's say you gotta draw it around a tree in a tight lie, the way he's describing is a great and reliable way.
@@Grunt21Tennessee I think he does this as a way to accentuate the draw. One can just readjust the grip if the draw gets to be excessive. That being said I will definitely check out Mark Crossfield's video. Thanks Newman

they're teachers not players - has Leadbetter won a major? Butch Harmon had one year on tour. Hank Haney?
If Blair was my instructor, I would have difficulty concentrating on golf....
Damn this bird is georgous no wonder we all like golf would love her teaching me especially in the bunkers ⛳🏌️♂️🏌️♀️
Damn, she is on fire!!!!!
Is that Blair from big break?
yes
Yes I see, it must be the sticks on the ground. Not that I’m only 15 feet away so the viewer gets a full view of what?. I’ve used the simpler one, the grass was growing in the wrong direction 🤔
Mark crossfield recently did a video showing why this does not make a draw, now I'm confused. (tried it at the range today no draws happened)
Go back to the mark crossfield video as this one is complete nonsense
That's because hes actually teaching how to hit a hook aimed right of the target, and calling it a "draw."
Blair is a way better "student" than Holly was. She actually does what Martin is teaching. Holly never looked like she understood what he was saying.
Exit right of target - Ermm yeah every great player and golf coach such as Pete Cowen says you must exit low and left - exit right means resisting shoulder is up meaning a block, shank or snap hook 😂
Clicked because the thumbnail. 😂
Nobody should try to imitate Seve. He was a one-of-kind artist.
I was drooling, never mind drawing!
I can't find her on the LPGA list.
Tiger woods hits a draw and always starts with a slightly open face because he wants the ball to start to the right 👍👍👍 the opposite to what Martin says , but there isn’t one way to do it ⛳️⛳️👍👍
Golf...yes,golf👍👍
Shouldn't the face be facing the direction you want it started? YOu had it pointing left of center. Seems the clubface should be aligned on the line you want the ball to start, and the body (path) aligned right of that.
This is not a draw. This is a small hook, but you are just aimed right of the target. A draw is a shot that starts right of the target WHILE you're aimed at the target and finished at the target. His explanation of what Sevi and Carrie taught at the beginning IS a draw.
IT is a good way to cheat a draw though, if you can't hit it.
You're describing a push draw
@@connorb3659 so then what's a standard draw
@@MsMatth33 simply a ball that moves left of its original aiming line.
Aim right the ball goes further right.
Just close the club face slightly and play around the ball. Simples
Not a pro. JMO
Newman
He did do what you suggested.
Aimed right with the body and closed the club face.
Body right is the starting point of the swing and closed club face is where the ball will end up.
@@RichieCat4223 I'm more talking about his mentioning of placing the club a certain way in the hands, and "closing the face", etc. No need for that.
The way to describing is good for higher handicaps, but you can't work a ball as much with that technique. Let's say you gotta draw it around a tree in a tight lie, the way he's describing is a great and reliable way.
@@Grunt21Tennessee OK Thanks for your reply.
@@Grunt21Tennessee I think he does this as a way to accentuate the draw. One can just readjust the grip if the draw gets to be excessive. That being said I will definitely check out Mark Crossfield's video. Thanks Newman
You've got a professional golfer there! How about asking her how SHE does it?
It’s funny because my natural swing is a draw so I have to do almost the exact opposite cuz I have trouble hitting a cut
You can just turn the clubface in your hands then grip it closed. Then you can just turn your body to aim the face.
She hooked the first one because the face was way too closed not because the sticks were in the way. Notice the next two shots she didn’t close the face as much and she got the results.
true
Step1: get someone who always hits a draw. Step2: talk some nonsense Step3: have the person who always hits a draw,.. hit a draw
Dave u make no sense
@@dennisbresee5403 Its not rocket science. If you figure out this life mystery on your own, no one can help you.
I would definitely take her to St Andrew’s
This is basically how I developed my draw... just putting a little english on the ball.
I want to play a round with Blair
What’s a draw?
When I played I could hit a draw/hook even with an open stance, weak grip and open club face. Just couldn't get away from it..
Blair would get it
Having trouble concentrating on the draw technique when Blair O'Neal is standing there.
Its Blair O'Neal's FAULT I'm here!
