Hi Chris love your videos I am a 68 year old I was a 20 handicapper, with your help and advice I have dropped 5 shots. I fade the ball and learning to draw a ball. Thank you for your advice. Also your set up advice. Thanks again Chris
i’ve converted to a small draw during covid and it has really helped my game. It makes my miss much more predictable. Gained probably 20 yards on all of my irons (among other swing changes and tons of practice) and shaved a bunch of strokes off my handicap. The head cover drill is exactly how my coach had my learn the draw. First starting with my wedges using 50-70% swings and working from there
Agree with Paul below, I consistently draw my shots and also I fade them and hit them straight. Unfortunately I can rarely predict which one its going to be.
Chris, i'm a shut face golfer with more of a hold off release. When I set up to hit a draw as you describe, the ball flight goes where my shoulders are aimed. Thoughts?
Hi, I’m a 75 years young golfer, for the past 2 years I have been trying to work a draw into my game. I’m a fader naturally, anytime I need a fade or slice no problem. But I’m finding it hard to hit a draw whenever I want. I’ve tried various setups and swing paths but I can’t seem to hit the draw on demand. Once in awhile I hit the draw but it’s not a shot I can count on. My handicap is 12. I’m looking forward to hitting to range and work on what your showing us.
Thank you Chris. I tried it yesterday and definitely pushing it to the right, so at least got the first part right! Now got to work on the turning the club head part.
I’ve worked on draws with the driver by closing my stance and rolling my hand over at impact. Seems to work well. I’ll go to the range and try your instruction with my irons . Excited to try!
Hi Chris, good video as always. You said that this doesn’t necessarily work for the driver. So how would you train to control the driver in the same way?
Cheers Chris, spend some time on the driving range and will definitely work with this. My bad shot is a pull left which means i'm quite often pin high but 5/10 yards left of the pin. Also watched your short game tutorial( haha), so got that covered. Many thanx.
Hi Chris, I'm a senior golfer these days but was a single figure golfer for many years. My standard shot was reasonably straight/slight fade but I never felt that I really controlled the ball. After a layoff for a few years, I want to get back to playing more regularly but would like to draw the ball for more control and to compensate with not being able to hit the ball as far. Let me know your thoughts. Cheers Pete (in OZ)
So, you don't close the club face by a grip adjustment? Just let the body/ball adjustments let the club face automatically? I can't wait to try this! Thanks!
Did I miss something? Ha I have been working to draw the ball and my miss is always 10-20 block consistently right. Is there a method to drawing it back or are you saying you just have to turn the clubface over? Seems like id be way inconsistent if i was trying to remember to manually close the face right at impact?
Everything you said makes sense only question here is i need something to aim and commit to when hitting the shot so for example with all those swing thoughts in mind where were you aiming your swing/face at? Were you aiming face at maybe right edge of the green and committing your swing towards hitting that target and letting the swing thoughts draw and do the work? Sorry for the massive question
Hi chris i love the work what you do but this just seems like a lot to changes to do for setup. I am a draw swing but hate to use it but when i do i move my feet closed just to help it a bit... ive been working hard on my fade shot and has been inproving my game a lot keep up the excellent work
Good explanation as always. Ich changed from slice to draw. Ball starts still a little bit to far in the middle . Anyhow, better than a fade or splice. But now I cannot go back to Fades😂. Would like to see the same video for fading the ball. Please. Thanks.😍
So in the past my best iron strikes would be a baby fade type shot. My bad shots would either be a super push or snap hook. Looking to start drawing my irons more for a bit more distance and consistency of ball flight. thanks
Maybe this will tell you what I think of your instruction videos. I'm not getting any younger. The nearest access to a course for me is over an hour away. I have played twice in 7 months because most of that time no course has been available. For multiple reasons, I have lost most of my enthusiasm for golf in the process. Ya know what? - I am still watching your videos with interest and getting useful info from them. Thank you may not say enough but it will do until I figure out what does. Great job, as usual ..... :)
Great video, thanks. On occasion, I produce really bad push shots, especially under pressure. Can you do a video on how to prevent push shots with the draw hitting setup/swing you explained?
I’m looking to take one side out of the equation, miss with irons right & left , always played with a draw younger days and was more consistent. Winter project !!😊
Great lesson thanks Chris. I used this technique on the course on sunday & its given me a slight baby draw (something i have never been able to do) that has improved my ball striking & has improved my ball flight no end. This way of doing things has also given me extra yardage too, i now need to practice this some more & re-evaluate the yardage for each iron. Now i just need to learn to do this with my driver as it still curves way to the right.
Push draw is my favorite shot shape. Just looks beautiful. Feels awesome at impact. Also it seems that when I miss with a draw or possibly hook it, it’s not as bad as if I missed with a fade or sliced it.
I'm just trying to change to a draw for now to fix my swing path to make it more neutral, it also helps establish the basics off the swing really well which is good for amateurs like myself. Been playing a fade since I started learning last year and the swing path was just starting to get a bit too out to in.
I draw the ball Chris but sometimes don't get my starting lines correct any feedback would be appreciated or if you have done a video mate cheers Peter
Why do you stress turning the wrists in the swing? If you want to hit the draw why not close the club face slightly at set up and swing (twice the closed face) to the right, the less manipulation with the wrist the better ! Just curious ?
Wish I had a fluid golf swing like you do. Great explanation. When will you cover the fade or cut? My normal ball flight is a draw, I can fade the ball but lack confidence. I think I’m missing the right swing thoughts.
Hybrids usually stay left & wedges through 6 iron slight fade. The driver & 5 wood go both ways so I'll be trying these great tips. I like how you don't change stance (nothing like lining up right & going right).
Chris, I thought lowering hands slightly creating a slight toe up would help promote a inside/draw path. You mention raising the club therefore toe more down. Will test the others points you mention with both options on driving range. Good video.
Hey Cam, this set up is to move the arc and the path more out to the right. You are correct that lowering the handle will point the face more left, but this movement in the video will shift the circle and have you swinging more right 👍
Thanks Chris, great explanation again. My natural shot is a fade with irons but I can draw when needed, albeit by using my feet position, however I’ll be taking this method to the range to give it a go. That said my driver and woods natural swing is a draw, unless the testosterone kicks in for a big hit, then it’s a fade... well a cut... uuum no, let’s be honest, it a slice... a big slice, a where the hell is that going slice! Thankfully I don’t do that so often these days and just rely on your coached tempo and technique.
I feel like I have a good launch angle not too high or low but I’m not really getting the distance I want is there anyway you can make a video on good workout routine I can do it home to increase my distance? thanks!
Just increased my swing speed with a little tweak but now I'm hitting everything left. My swing path is inside out but I'm closing the face dramatically even with the face open at address. This is a big change from a large slice. I also chunk my longer irons.
I can draw the ball and I can fade the ball, I just cant predict when it will do either. That to me is more frustrating than not being able to draw the ball.
Your probably right there Paul, great that you can though, at least that means you have the ability there just need to fine tune it. I’d maybe look to more skill based drills then rather than technical ones as that part may already be there 👍
I do struggle at times but to be honest a small fade I usually hit the green but a draw which for me is that the ball is drawing to much and usually I never hit the green !! I do prefer a baby fade compared to a draw but for the past month with my coach mentally I am standing over the ball not thinking of a draw or fade and just aim straight and with my own swing the ball ! Hope this makes a little sense !
In Tommy Armour's 1953 book, "How to Play Your Best Golf All the Time", he wrote, "In addressing an iron shot, be sure your weight favours you left foot rather than your right foot...the sixty percent figure is arbitrary." He also advocated a square stance, the head is steady with the hands ahead of the ball with the long irons.
Chris, could you do a video on weight in the golf swing - from the down the line view. My head moves towards the ball and my weight goes to my toes. I think this sends my club over the top and I get contact issues.
Thanks for the tips! I have a natural fade shot shape, and I am also prone to pushing the ball out right of the target. I’m hoping to learn some things on closing my club face and getting that ball to get back to the left.
I always fade the ball which I am happy with, but would love to have the draw in the bag as well. If you don't strike the fade well, it turns into a horribly weak shot
I’m a newly returning golfer after a 15 year layoff. And even as a young teenager I’ve always had and still do have a bad push/slice no matter what I try. Please could you help me ?
I push slice just horribly with what feels like my “normal” swing. When I really work on trying to draw I can baby draw or straight shot irons. Everything driver is 50+ yds from target sliced
Drawing with irons works ok, but somehow balls always start at target, and draws right of target (playing left handed) even I try to align and start left of target 🙄 🤔 - Recommendations, thx.
I'm sure as a teacher you must have noticed that the cut off point between players who draw the ball, and players who fade/slice, the ball is generally around the 12 handicap mark. (with a few exceptions.) Players are always looking for more distance, and those who can naturally play a draw have a big advantage when it comes to what iron they need for their second shot. It's just something I've noticed over my years of playing, that nearly all of the low handicappers play a draw of the Tee, so my question is why do the vast majority (some 85% of all golfers) naturally fade, or slice the ball? Is there something about the human skeletal frame that makes human beings "naturally fade a ball?
great lesson thx Chris, yesterday I was drawing the ball perfectly but then my pencil broke. I'll try this drill tomorrow.
🥇
😂
Great explanation it works well drawing the ball nicely
Thank you for the instructions. I appreciate how you keep it simple and not so technical. Cheers. Peter

Best lesson on this I have seen. Have just started drawing the ball nicely

Nice! Keep the videos coming on hitting crisp shots.
You’re very pedagogical. Love it. One of your videos on pitching made a ton of difference to me. Thank you 🙏.
Great to hear John, glad it helped
I can't wait to try this tomorrow 🤗
Defo going to watch this a couple more times.
Very helpful. Do you do anything differently (other than more forward ball position and more shoulder tilt) with driver?
Yep glad you mentioned it! When i play my best i draw the ball sadly it's not often enough.
Chris, i'm a shut face golfer with more of a hold off release. When I set up to hit a draw as you describe, the ball flight goes where my shoulders are aimed. Thoughts?

Hi Chris. Why did you not really take a divot after the ball? Is that to do with the draw? The club? Or the surface? Thanks.
Great stuff. I am beginning to get this ball flight happening. I just need to practice the turning over of hands in follow through
Does playing right handed while being left handed make a difference??
Never been able to draw, its either been a hook or a slice I shall certainly try that one Chris thanks
Hi Chris would a strong grip be a help for trying to draw the ball flight
Hi Chris, good video as always. You said that this doesn’t necessarily work for the driver. So how would you train to control the driver in the same way?

Great advice and video. Probably the best on how to hit a draw video. I've watched quite a lot, great pointers and not difficult. Keep it up.
Thanks ian glad you found some value in it 👍

Interesting. Though, I am not 100% sure about where the club face should be pointing. Is it square to the target I.e. perpendicular to the feet?

Thanks Michael and great that you are able to work in both ways
I constantly slice the ball heavy, and this will help alot.

Thanks Chris! Going to try this, this weekend 👌
Hope it helps Simon

Good video on draw shots. Can you do one on fade shots ( I can already guess what this will be like) as well as one on trajectories high and low?
I miss right & left with irons, time to take one side out of equation. Will work on this. Thanks
Great video. I’m feel this might help me stop pulling my irons. I hit them well just always left and usually 20-30 feet from the pin.
It should really help Pat, hope it does
Push draw is my favorite shot shape. Just looks beautiful. Feels awesome at impact. Also it seems that when I miss with a draw or possibly hook it, it’s not as bad as if I missed with a fade or sliced it.
I totally agree. It always seems as though my misses aren't as bad with a draw.
Do I use this setup for all irons ? Can you show 1 day how to draw and fade you're driver ! Thanks
Thank you for your nice instructional comments!
Great tips Chris pal.
Chris I am familiar with everything you described. I was told to rotate faster to create the draw and turn my hands over.
Thanks Ken, I’m not sure rotating faster will help but certainly the second part should encourage this 👍
Change your grip and move your back foot back
I'm just trying to change to a draw for now to fix my swing path to make it more neutral, it also helps establish the basics off the swing really well which is good for amateurs like myself. Whenever I try to draw the ball (coming from the inside), it goes straight. When I don't, I slice
Thanks Chris, great explanation again.

Great that you can move it both ways, useful skill to have on the course 👍👍
Another great Vid. Thank you!
Thanks Chris, I really want that draw shape
Hope it helps
I am a natural fader of the golf ball with my irons. I partifularly struggle with my irons. While I am a strong driver/wood player.
I feel like I have a good launch angle not too high or low but I’m not really getting the distance I want is there anyway you can make a video on good workout routine I can do it home to increase my distance? thanks!
Lat pull downs and push-ups and situps. Also squats

is it a trap draw or you sweeping it thanks in advance
Is it easier to draw the driver shot if you learn it with irons first?
I do struggle at times but to be honest a small fade I usually hit the green but a draw which for me is that the ball is drawing to much and usually I never hit the green !! I'm a chronic fade to slice hitter. If i hit a draw, it's like looking at a magician. You know he did something, you just don't know what.
Well hope this vidoe helps Terry, one for the range first but really think this will help
Thanks Chris
Great great video, thank you so much ,
Chris, could you do a video on weight in the golf swing - from the down the line view. My head moves towards the ball and my weight goes to my toes. I think this sends my club over the top and I get contact issues.
I'm all over the map!
Same here
What is the exact reason to hitting an iron like this? Newbie question.
I won my 2 day club championship .. See previous lesson on chip and pitching ..Thank you CR.
Great to hear, glad the videos have helped
are you going to make a video for fading irons with the same ideas in this video?
Great video
What causes a shank 😳
Thanks for the tips! I have a natural fade shot shape, and I am also prone to pushing the ball out right of the target. I’m hoping to learn some things on closing my club face and getting that ball to get back to the left.
Lucky enough that my natural shape is a draw. When it works well its nice and high which I love.
Current ball flight is 50-100 yards with a peak apex of about 4ft, often lost a little left.
I've only hit a draw a few times when training to hit more under than over the top. Not sure how else it is done
I always fade the ball which I am happy with, but would love to have the draw in the bag as well. If you don't strike the fade well, it turns into a horribly weak shot
My current miss is a push fade. Club path is inside to out nicely but if I leave the face open a touch it results in a pretty bad miss!
Yeah sounds like it’s face control that willl bring that ball back Derek
My best strikes have a either a very small fade/ draw seemingly straight. But I have spells where I slice more than a mandalin in a cold cut factory
😂😂😂😂
I’m always hitting the golf ball with like a little 5 yard fade. My hall starts right too
I’ve learned how to draw the ball , problem now is I never line up to hit a shot straight, I always add the draw , going ok though so far
I’m a newly returning golfer after a 15 year layoff. And even as a young teenager I’ve always had and still do have a bad push/slice no matter what I try. Please could you help me ?
Sounds like it just face control Andrew. I’d look to control the face on the backswing 👍
ChrisRyanGolf thanks mate. I’m at the range today so I’ll try the things I saw and get back to you 👍. Keep up the awesome videos
I'm hitting it straight left or a fade would to hit a draw
Can’t you just close the face at set up?
I push slice just horribly with what feels like my “normal” swing. When I really work on trying to draw I can baby draw or straight shot irons. Everything driver is 50+ yds from target sliced
I either hit it straight or a slight fade or a really bad pull. Would like to draw the ball on demand.
Drawing with irons works ok, but somehow balls always start at target, and draws right of target (playing left handed) even I try to align and start left of target 🙄 🤔 - Recommendations, thx.
Its all about the spin you give to the ball, so here conterclock wise. Ball goes to the left because underpressure at left side.
Hi Chris is this at the forest of Arden
It was filmed there yes
I constantly hit slight fade, after a lesson hit a draw for a time but now gone back to the fade.
My ball goes high and Straight and then at the very top starts to fade - ie goes right and it’s the case with driver and clubs
Overdraw my PW and GW without even trying, like 30 yards. So aggravating and have a hard time drawing my driver.
I can pretty easily draw my long irons and woods, but I’m struggling with controlling my draw with short irons.
I’m looking to draw every shot with occasional fades for this right doglegs. I’ve been trying to do it for years..
I either hit a baby fade or pull it a couple yards left but it’s a straight ball flight
