There was a missing screw on the lower right of the water separator housing cover. Also, the Oil Filter cap installed on your truck is not the correct one. The taller one on that truck will not allow the filter housing to retain oil when the truck is turned off. Just a few observation. Thanks for the video.

I noticed when you removed the original fuel filter on top of the engine, the fuel filter was black and looked like the filter had twisted because the fins didn’t look straight up and down on the filter is this normal?
No, not normal but it's not out of the ordinary either. We had just bought this truck and later found out that the previous owner like to run used motor oil through with his fuel (DO NOT DO THIS).
Ford has an indestructible transmission, better body, better features. Dodge trucks with cummins are only good because of the motor, everything else is trash.
That really sucks, I hate to hear that. The first thing I thought of was trying to move it with a strap wrench. You can get strap wrenches that actually attach to a ratchet that are very handy. Good luck.
Do not try to change the HFCM Filter when the Fuel Tank is full. The Tank will try to drain out through the Filter Housing and make a big, and I do mean BIG, mess.
Bought Motorcraft FD4616 Filters just as recommended. My large filter does not have a weep hole in either end. Have they quit putting them in the new filters? What do you recommend?
Man, I wish I had found this video sooner, how important is the orientation of that weep hole? I bought a set of motorcraft filters and o-rings, but the instructions just said to reinstall the filter element into the cap and just put the cap back into the housing. I hope this doesn't cause an issue.
If you notice he turns the filter to the left (counterclockwise) with the locating nub up to start with, and then rotates it clockwise until it hits the stop that locates it. So if you put the filter in the cap and install it, it rotates clockwise with the cap until it gets far enough in to start hitting the stop, and that locates it. that is the standard way to install the new filter. So don't worry, your filter is oriented correctly. The risk is if you get one of the aftermarket filters that doesn't have the nub on it.
Just replaced my filters (not my first time on a 6.0) and for some strange reason it isn't priming as fast as it did before, I have to prime the fuel for 5-10 seconds now to get it to start. I've already replaced the upper cap as the previous one looked like it was slightly cracked by the previous owner using the drive hole to loosen and tighten it, still hasn't fixed the problem. I don't see any fuel leaking out the caps so not sure where to go next without throwing hundreds of dollars at it.
I have a 2003 Ford Powerstroke 6.0L truck. When I turned the water drain plug on the fuel conditioner it just turns does not back out or drain at all & does not tighten back down. I have not opened the filter cap yet do I need to replace the drain plug if so where can I get one?
What quality fuel filters are out there that you guys recommend using for the 6.0 without having to pay for the overly priced Motorcraft filters? I know the filter on the frame need to have a weep hole and locking tab. Does anyone have any suggestions?
@ Lame Upload ya i think its best to play it safe and just dish out the extra money for the motorcraft filters. If you look on ebay and amazon you can get them waaaay cheaper than at your local Ford dealership
Beware of Chinese knock offs. I buy filters straight from the Ford dealership. I realize I’m paying more at the dealership but I have peace of mind that they are not knock offs.
Use the original some aftermarket filters don’t have the water separator membrane. Stay with all motorcraft filters for oil and fuel on the upper fuel filter, some aftermarket filters will actually break plastic parts inside the housing
Does anyone else's bottom cap turn hard when the filter seats in the cap and then the weep stop prevents the filter from turning? Its like there is too much friction between the cap and the filter. I don't like how much force it requires to continue once it reaches that point.
Thanks! I should have also mentioned that this was a great video and super helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to put it together. @@thoroughbreddiesel
THANKS - Finished! 03 6.0 Project time 2hr total - procured sockets and filters from store, drain, clean, refit, pressurize, inspect, start. Upon removal of top filter, found an extra "O" ring attached (2) two attached, rolled them both off and replaced with one. Used K&N filters, they did not have a tab near weep-hole fyi. Used a paint tray with an old liner that worked real well to capture evacuating fuel, as I have break lines and other lines that impede an even flow from the conditioning module nut and you may need to guide the pan with agility from its initial flow to when it just droplets every few seconds. I opted to let the conditioning module completely empty, removing the cap for the bottom filter had very little residual fuel that dropped so it seems to be the way to go. Did this on my back in the driveway just fine. Total project cost filter and sockets approx $100.000 not including my labor costs.

Looking for a part # and a place I can buy the cap for the fuel pump on the frame, thanks
I don't see any fuel leaking out the caps so not sure where to go next without throwing hundreds of dollars at it.
i got a problem my 6.0 will start up when cold when hot it cranks but no start any ideas ?
Check glow plugs. If it will start well after being plugged in, suspect glow plugs.
Great! Very thorough. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Truck started then stalled now it won’t start. Has full power, it cranks, but won’t turn over. Any ideas?
HEUI is hard to diagnose without a scanner. Need to know codes first, then oil pressure while cranking, fuel pressure, etc.
We offer a kit from Racor www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/pff4616/
Don't do it, USE ONLY OM Motorcraft
Excuse my ignorance but can a bad fuel pump cause misfire. Also is there only on fuel pump?
Lack of lift pump pressure can cause the truck to run rough and be considered a “misfire”.
What do you guys think aboit using the international filters part number 1847170c94? Are they the same quality as the Motorcraft?
THANK YOU WELL DONE!
Our pleasure!
Thanks guys! Saved me allot of money!
Woohoo! That is what we like 2 hear.

Seafoamed it while I was there too. She runs smooth as butter. 251,356 miles, hopefully many more to go
Does anyone else's bottom cap turn hard when the filter seats in the cap and then the weep stop prevents the filter from turning? Its like there is too much friction between the cap and the filter. I don't like how much force it requires to continue once it reaches that point.
Have noticed that too, one thing we do is make sure the threads are clean and we even use some light grease on them when reinstalling the filter.
Thanks! I should have also mentioned that this was a great video and super helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to put it together. @@thoroughbreddiesel
Thank You Thank You....GREAT video....I'm headed to my truck right now!!
You're welcome. Happy to help.
Lots of companies make 36mm sockets
Can I change the fuel filters with a full tank? Like put aplug over a line first time and girly not mechanical but have to be. Help
You're welcome! Glad you gotter done!

Excellent video thank you so much sir

Do u have a link for the kind of soket?
I like that Is very very importante to me thanks very very much
would you blow an injector if you dont let the lift pump run a couple times? or would air continue to be in fuel system?
It would start and die and then crank for awhile before starting
mine didnt die at all.. n now when I go to turn on, it cranks hard and starts like its missing a beat or two.
Great video,thank you
