- I know we all use aftermarket parts to save money so I will try and show what to look for in the fuel filters so you can at least buy a better filter and what to avoid. Thank you and like always comments are left open incase you feel that I am wrong. Feel free to educate and correct me,
I know Ron has passed but, to his family..... Ron gave the You Tube community so much valuable information that is incredible. He was priceless and his videos keep his legacy continuing through eternity!
Amen! I was scouring RUclips for the best Ford diesel “how-to” videos and when I found Ron’s videos, I looked no further. All of his videos are thorough, his comments are insightful and what a great personality. Love it.

Ron passed away in 2016. He was driving his VW Beetle when he was hit by a guy dozing off and was thrown out from the sunroof.

I wish he had done a fuel flow test but this is a great video I really like how in-depth he goes!
Thanks for these videos, I love watching them. I havent owned a 6.0 in years, but I still enjoyed watching these videos.
Always the best especially for 6.0L information . Straight to the point.
I know I'm late to the party...... Very shocking and educating as well when you refer to the Napa Gold. I was always told those were made by wix and they were very good filters
Hell I use them on my drag car. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanking you even though you’re gone. We appreciate this man and his smarts and tips live on
RIP Ron.. sorry for your troubles brother....Thanks for the help.
Hey Ron, thanks for the info. Just got a '06 f250 with the 6.0 and I just picked up the motorcraft fuel and oil filters and I am about change all of them for the first time. Nice to have the video as a reference. Thanks again.
Another fine video. I found out the hard way yesterday to use Motorcraft. I changed my filters with napa filters. The truck ran for a few minutes and then ran out of fuel and quit. No fuel in the upper filter. I feared the worst (fuel pump). I took the lower filter out and re installed it, nothing, and I could hear the pump running. I went to Orielly's to get a motorcraft filter. After install, I turned the key on and instantly fuel appeared. I have used aftermarket filters before, but no more on the 6.0.
Ron, I just wanted to thank you for your excellent videos. One video you did, you admitted a mistake you made (something you missed the first time you looked over the engine). I knew right then you are an excellent mechanic. A lesser mechanic would NEVER have admitted a mistake, let alone make a video about it so everyone could learn from it. I am a much better mechanic because of you. You should get a Bluetooth mic which clips onto your shirt. I see lots of RUclips contributors using them. God bless.
Thank you again for taking your time and putting it out there great foot note on draining the water cavity on the fuel pump 👏👏👏
Very helpful! So sorry he’s no longer with us.
Best teacher we missing you 😔🇺🇸 Sir :(
Thank you Ron; for all you did for us!
On my '05 F350 It's a 35mm socket for the lower fuel filter cap. Also - note that if you do open the 6mm allen on the water/diesel separator it will continue to drain for quite awhile until you close it.
Easy fix is to just use motorcraft filters. Then you have no question in mind. That's what I do on my 7.3, a little peace of mind in my opinion
worth every dollar.
Thanks for another informative video. I have saved a lot of time and money by watching the videos that you have posted.
I USE MOTORCRAFT ONLY! NO AFTERMARKET FILTERS. FLEET OF 14 F450 DIESELS! I CLEAN THE LOWER FUEL CONDITIONER EVERY TIME IN MARYLAND (HIGH HUMIDITY. GOOD INFO, THANKS!
no aftermarket parts on psd. it cost the customer more in the long run in tows and down time. OEM only I have hap more problems with aftermarket parts on these diesel's. causes you to second guess ur self and waste time. thanks keep posting ur videos are awesome. I love to see them in my email. next time I need a ficm I'm buying it from you. Dave from Pittsburgh PA
just found this video.looking for some 6.0 power stroke info. Sorry to hear about Ron,appreciate the video.
Wow, thank you ron, this was very unbiased, comparative, and informative. Nice comparison among all the major brands. The white ebay filter, i know the owner and worked personally with steve to develop and perfect the oil filter for the ram ecodiesel. Im going to forward this video to show him a professional opinion on his fuel filter.
Hey Shawn lol
We miss you, Ron!
I was told that the vent hole and membrane were important.
The membrane on the OEM helps with water separation in cooler, and temperature changing climates.
Loving the f250 6.0 videos!
SUBSCRIBED!👍😁✌️
enjoy your vids. love the truth being told to the public. OEM , in most cases is the best choice. in the mil. , we'd order a nsn number and it might be a fram , lurifiner, Baldwin , wix.
Sometimes I just use a regular oil filter wrench on the lower fuel filter especially when it is on very tight.
gloknor Thanks. Will have to try that next time when it won’t move.
I don't speak good English but I understand everything.. thanks.
RIP Ron
He died???!!! What happened??
check his channel
CSXtrackworker died in a crash on his way to work. got t boned and was ejected thru the sun roof of his car and died
“If you like it put some assembly lube on it” YEAHHH RON!
Ron, do you mind sharing which Ebay seller you get your fuel filters from? thanks.
Good info..Thanks again Ron.
Miss you Ron!
I also have f350 2006 6.0 with a 142000 just had #2 glow plug go out need to get that fixed before winter..
Thanks for the video , when you change the felter should you put a small amount of diesel in the top felter very helpful thanks
Yeah THANKS Diesel Ron Your GREAT Help : RIP :
Fleet guard makes these filters. Can buy them through a fleet guard dealer for about 1/2 what you can a motor crap
Thanks again Ron 🙏😇
Glad your doing videos again!
Good info, thanks Ron I didn't know some of those things.
How often should I change fuel filters
I am shocked that Baldwin filters are at the bottom. I have always thought that Baldwin and Donaldson were the best you could get.
I have an RV with a Cat engine and I pretty much stick to Baldwin, Donaldson and Cat for my filters.
How often should they be replaced
Legend!
He still a legend
Thank You for the product info
ill agure with anything after market when it comes to clean fuel... if they say 4 microns is required, yes going to a 2 micron sounds better right? cept for its going to be lowering the supply to pump and injectors which equals a little less return rate!
least thats how i feel i say OEM all the way with oil and fuel filters
Thank you you’re awesome 👏
My friend lost a whole tank of fuel and almost got in an accident from it getting all over the tires by using AutoZone filter. OEM or Napa do not cause problems though.
Does the port holes on the top fuel filter cap matter my old cap had 2 port holes on each side of cap my new cap had no holes and now my truck will not start or run
Good info here! I use racor for all my filters! A lot cheaper then going to a dealer. But I wlto would like to ask some questions when you have some free time.
great video. very good info.
Whats the part number on that snap on socket
Thank you, Cus.
Thanks for all the GREAT Video's Ron. Quick question for you on the top fuel filter. I've only ever used the original Ford replacement filters and have noticed the past few times I've changed them that even with the engine off (overnight) when I remove the upper fuel filter cap I can hear pressure being released. Is that normal?
I have a 03 6.0 and recently did a service on it and after I had a miss after watching your video I think its from the Napa fuel filter could this happen
I just changed my fuel filters and noticed the secondary was dry. that was the first time that has happened. do you have any ideas what would cause that.
So you dont have to drain the fuel 1st like you do on the 7.3 ?
what ebay filter Ron?? would you please share who the seller is a or which ones @DieselTechRon
Great video!
I have 2003 Ford F-250 it’s not starting???
Hey Ron, I think I have water in my tank I have a 2004 F250 6.0L what can I do? I just replaced all my glow plugs and wiring harness, I started the truck and a few seconds later it shutdown just as before. I'm not sure what to do please help!
Why chance aftermarket filters I don't I never have and never had issues use factory Ford filters and be done with it end of story. Here in BC Canada a 5 gallon pail of 5w-40 Delo 400 costs me 144 dollars, a oil filter from Ford is 30 dollars, fuel filters are 97 dollars. Did both on my truck 2 weeks ago I'm good for another 6 months. The Rotella T6 costs 235 dollars for 5 gallons so I use Delo been using it for 6 years or more. I keep my fuel tank over half full so I never run into condensation issues and I only buy my fuel from 2 places.
I take what you say regarding powerstrokes as gospel...Which eBay aftermarket fuel filter was the one you recommend?? The $70 motor craft fuel filter is a little steep imho. Thanks again for the videos.
motor craft fuel filter ebay for 39 bucks
Another reason why I buy OEM filters only.
Thanks Ron
Great vid! Thanks!
Real deal
Thank you.
Legend
Very Good!...
What would Ron tell me about after market injectors that are better than the stock. If there are any.
Powerstroke help.com
What is the name of the filters that you bought for $12 on ebay
JUnk
Thanks Ron......
Thank you
does the OEM or ebay come with new O-rings?
yes
Hello friend where is your workshop is it in miami ; please I want you see my truck ford 6.0 ,let me know
He has passed away.
Flip socket? Going to have to ask our snap-on guy about this. Never seen one in Canada.
Thanks
On 05 Excursion you can get filter wrench on . You have to double up on extensions or like he uses a 24 inch . That must be a 2wheel drive cuz 4 wheel the shaft and transfer case would be right there with a small window to work in . There for use extenson to get you beyond crossmember but upon removal your ratchet head will back up against transfer case. . 270000 miles 3 sets of injectors oil change every 8000 10000 miles .when it runs it runs like a raped ape . When it is sick I want to drive it thru Ford's front window
Can't get filter wrench on....
But beware! There is also the fake one… I bought a Motorcraft filter in the same online store twice in a year but still it keeps clogging the small filter or the very fine stainless steel mesh located in the injection pump body. That small filter is your last line of defense. That crud that keeps blocking the filter is made from the filter materials like fine microscopic cats hair accumulated into a ball of yarn at the size of 5mm sphere entirely blocking the SS mesh/strainer. I can’t believe a Motorcraft brand of Ford Oem will disintegrate inside so quickly. I must’ve bought a fake from you know where….
You did not mention the membrane on the Motorcraft that stops water getting to injectors. Motorcraft for life, to hell with saving 2$.
