      @@GeekyNerdyTechy I think the G80, unlike the G85, doesn't have none stop recording- something to do with European recording laws. Apart from that, they're the same camera.

    I bought a brand new G85 last week; for $678. I had been looking for a used GH4 for around that money, but reviews like yours helped the decision. I have 4 GX85s in the studio, hooked up to an ATEM mixer. These shoot great 1080p/30 video, but have no forward-facing screens, so setting up a solo shoot is a PITA. I will report back once I've set it up and used it. Could be the video/still bargain of the decade.

    I use the G85 for video and photography and the value for the money is a no brainer deal, I also love the menus, as you said those are very intuitive. I also own the G9 for even more pleasant results in photography and I'm happy with both cameras.

    I got this camera as a gift. It produces film like quality video at 4K 24. I had to figure out the auto focus but it works flawlessy in tracking mode and does some nice focus pulls which has been a great discovery! The photos it takes are professional quality. I think there is a lot of newer cameras that have updated technology but this little camera packs a powerful punch. It’s even cheaper now and would make a great starter camera for anyone on a budget.

    I am a newbie i just bought one. Its a bit more than i can use effectively but i knew that when i bought it. I wanted somethimg i could grow with. It seems like a battery hog but thats not a issue since i bought 3 batteries. ! I also bought the 200 mm lens with additional stabilizer in auto mode. Which makes a huge difference for free hand applications. The stabilizer has to be swithched off in manual to use focus ring but its not a issue mostly. Plenty of pixels for me. Ive got lots to learn. I try to watch a video daily and this one was confirmed that my purchase was a great choice. Thanks for the video. I gave you a thumbs up and subscribed. Its a bit different than the other panasonic camera that had huge optical zoom and additional digital zoom which i loved.

    Have it for a while,
    cons for me are: no higher fps then 60 (why o why not add 1080p120 or even 720p120), mic cable obstruct the flip screen, and most annoyingly screen goes off (power save?) while recording with wifi control after few sec (this was a bummer for me as I own a gimbal which connect via wifi with g85)
    pros for me are: Everything this amazing camera is! ...IBIS and specialy dual IS works a magic for still and video! And quality is very good for price ;)

    I sold my GH5 to buy the BMPCC4K (without dropping another penny). And I recently traded my G7 for a used [like new] G85 for just around $250. I'm waiting for the G85 to ship to me as I write this. My plans for the G85 are for vlogs and location scouting, etc. After working with the G7, I loved the imagery, but I really needed that Dual IS back. My G85 is coming tomorrow. I also have d3300. And I am replacing my Sony sr10e which is an old camcorder. But often it has happened that my clients who don't understand anything about camera specs tell me that the camcorder footage is better than that of the apsc camera. The sr10e died last week and it cannot be repaired by Sony any more. So I booked g85. Just one question: do you miss the flat profile facility in g85. Increasingly, camera manufacturers are removing flat profile feature from their semi-professional cameras like T100 and G7.

    Do camera products update like smartphones?
    Like if a certain camera model is launched 2 years ago, should I be expecting a new version soon?
    I don't want to buy a camera, and find out the new version coming out quite soon. That would make mine outdated.

      Companies release new products all the time but that doesn't mean they always have the same or better functionality or picture quality. For example Panasonic just released more new cameras and their functionality sucks for video purposes. So while they release new products usually some are always flawed in some ways.

    Did you use your first G85 to record this video? Cause if you did, the autofocus was very good!

  • @JeffBourke

    PAL and NTSC is really irrelivatn for online content. If you're making content for youtube, 30 FPS is the CORRECT frame rate (sadly, i notice you are uploading at 25 fps).
    This is a good review. Good to see a comparison from someone who uses both the G85 and GH5.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  4 года назад +3

      There's no "correct" RUclips frame rate. People who make movies upload in 24p, those who live in PAL region upload in 25 or 50. The reason behind this is you will not suffer light flickering thanks to 50 vs 60 Hz power frequencies. If I shoot at 30 frames per second here you will clearly see the lights refresh rate flicker. (depending on the light). You can film at those frame rates outside but indoors are where the problems strike. I've been all over the world and the frame rates vary because of this exact problem. :-) Hope this helps.

    • @JeffBourke
      @JeffBourke 4 года назад

      Geeky Nerdy Techy naaaah. 24 FPS doesn’t scale nicely to a 60hz monitor. Half the frames are doubled and half are tripled.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  4 года назад +1

      @@JeffBourke 24 fps is every movie in the history of film lol. I'm sure you've watched a few on your computer monitor over the years. 😆 haha. There are so many RUclipsrs who shoot in 24p and I am not one of them.

    • @JeffBourke
      @JeffBourke 4 года назад

      Geeky Nerdy Techy yeah. It’s a weird situation. Film makers shoot 24 FPS and it gets displayed at 24 fps in the cinema. I think it’s really bizarre that so many youtubers shoot at 24 when the most common displays are 60 FPS.
      Shooting 30 FPS really is the ideal RUclips frame rate. Because you can still use the 1/50 refresh rate to give cinematic Motion blur. Just my 2 cents.

    • @JeffBourke
      @JeffBourke 4 года назад

      @Steven Avery Guilty - Brendan Dassey Innocent There is no way that dividing 24 fps into a 60fps monitor looks better than dividing 30 into 30.
      24fps creates no motion blur. The motion blur is from the camera shutter time. You can use the exact same shutter time and create the exact same motion blur by filming at 30 fps.
      IF you are creating cinema to be displayed on a 24fps projecter THEN in THAT situation, 24 fps looks better.
      For content that is created for youtube - 30 fps and 60fps are the correct framerates to use.

      I haven't used that lens but odds are you want an f/3.5 or higher so you don't over-expose if it's really sunny. G85 is a great photography camera I took it to Denmark and Sweden last year and it was phenomenal for me - just point and click.

      M43 it’s a great system for sunny days. And it’s a great system for tele lenses. Effective focal length is double because of the crop factor. And the lenses have only very small weight.
