For what the Panasonic LUMIX G85 is and offers, it is the best prosumer camera in its price category-and more. And the autofocus thing that has become a chant among RUclipsrs is very usable, if you knew that filmmaking is more than just swinging your camera from one subject to another in random motion.
I had a G85 with the nice LUMIX G X Vario 12-35mm F/2.8 II Aspherical Power O.I.S. Lens around 5-6 years ago. I was trying to vlog and capture my baby daughter's movement. I loved how smooth the footage would be without a gimbal and how small the camera was. But what ultimately turned me away to return it was the autofocus. So many moments missed because of the autofocus. I went back to Canon 80D and then onto Canon M50 (2018) when it was released, and switched to Sony with the A7S III in 2021. Great video and demonstrations, keep up the great work Rome!
Bought a G85 last year to replace a G7 and it served me extremely well from a photographic perspective. I've since moved on to a Sony a7iii as my main shooter but the G85 is such a great travel option with it's weight and ease of use, I will probably never sell it! In fact your video has inspired me to try shooting some video with it. Keep up the good content man. I'm in Salt Lake so a lot of the places you shoot (in NV) at I'm somewhat familiar with.
@@triumph_cv Thanks for the encouraging words! Yea I’m looking at upgrading soon to maybe a a7?? Ill definitely still keep the g85 around though. Keep shooting 📷
@ a7iii is a fantastic camera and you can find good prices on the used market. (I paid 900 for a near mint body) but bear in mind there’s no flip out display so not a great vlogging option. Auto focus is extremely strong though, lots of cheap but good 3rd party lenses, and you can shoot video in slog so a powerful tool
I love my G85! It came out in 2016 and is still being sold new by retailers. Sure, there's vastly superior cameras, even within the Lumix range but at a jump in cost to match. There's still much to love about the G85: weather sealing, unlimited 4K recording, stabilisation, articulating touch screen, built in wifi for app control, mic port etc... it's a versatile little allrounder and still good value for money in my view.
I use the European version (G80) and I love it! I have a good range of lenses however I tend to use the 14-45 kit lens with it for most things. It really is a brilliant camera! Nice review.
i just bought g85 camera and do you think it is good enough to use it on video with takara bomber 100DC continuous light with softbox? is there no noise appearing with 4K quality max iso at 400? thanks.
@@frankiefalci8735 I’m not familiar with the Pentax, but it looks like a good camera. It’s a comparison between a mirrorless in the G85, and a dslr with the Pentax. Prices seem comparable. You’ll have more lens options with the M4/3 G85 than the APS-C Pentax. For me it was the video capabilities of the Panasonic that I went with. Whatever you choose, take some great pictures and have fun!
I've had mine since 2019 and I love it. I'm going to purchase another G85, and another camera as well.
Love my G85, and I've been Canon only since 1983!

I'm about to buy a g85 as my first camera and this video has helped quite a lot, thanks man
Enjoy your new camera!

Thanks for the encouraging words. The Canons are nice as well. Was my second choice. Sonys are still out of reach for me, but hopefully soon.

Well done review! I am getting this as a training wheels platform, then the G9....and lastly the G9 ii that recently came out.

Yea I’m loving it so far! Everything you’ve said is so true. Love your channel, 2 of my favorite things, drones and NZ!
Very informative. Thank you so much . Great video
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you! I’m looking to add to my lenses too! Not sure if I should get a zoom or prime next!
Im getting back to content w my g85 w the kit 14 42mm🔥it's a beast for the price

Very well done
I'm still using this camera. May be will upgrade to G9 ii later
Yea, it’s a great camera. The G9 looks like a very nice upgrade from it.
maybe you want to make sure you have to latest firmware, sometimes they improve the autofocus algorithm
Where can I buy the original USB port that came with it I can’t find it anywhere online
Do you mean usb cable? If so, you can find them on Amazon. Just search for micro-b usb cable
What is your ND filter rating? I was told to use ND16 for video
I guess it would depend on your lighting and shot settings. You can use a variable nd filter as well.
for general use is a g85 with 14-140 or a Pentax k70 with 18-135 better?
