I have the G87 I use for video and the G7 for stills. Got both with the 25mm and 14-42mm lens each for $300, then I got the Olympus 40-150mm lens. I'm covered for all video and photo needs.
Nice review, and thank you for being honest about it's downfalls. I imagine no one camera will be perfect in every regard, there will always be something to complain about. I'm thinking of getting this as my first camera to get into photography - mostly photographing my kids and nature stuff as well as doing some video recording. You think this would serve my purposes as well as some of the more expensive options like a sony a6400 or a new canon r50?
It would absolutely work for that. Obviously those more expensive ones will be better in some way. If you're trying to use it professionally, it's a different story, but if it's just for casual, personal use, I think the G85 would do just fine
Thanks for your honest opinions on the G85. Its closest competitors for content creation are the Canon R10, Canon m50ii, Nikon Z30 and Sony ZV-E10. However the great advantage of the G85 is the in body stabilization and the kit lens with reach 12-60mm equivalent to 24-120mm in full frame. Which makes it appealing as a walk around camera for travel or vlogging and B cam video, ideally best suited for video, as APS-C cameras have the advantage for photos and lower light. For the price today in 2023 it has great value for certain video use, provided there is enough light available. In a well lit room, and for walk around in the daytime, it is great with its kit 5x zoom 12-60mm. One of the other reviewers used eye detect AF which helped with selfie vlogging.

why wouldn’t you use the g85 for both? it seems unnecessary to have the g7

Well said. However, the eye detection auto focus suffers even in good light quite a bit, but I agree with everything else
Very honest review, thanks man 👍 subcrbd and liked 👍
this camera is still a beast for making videos... the best
It is good, but compared to my a7IV it's far from the best, but they are in 2 very different tiers
@@itmeremy its costing 2500 ollars.. I bought the G85 for 450 dollars
@rave brave one of the reasons they're not in the same class. I agree with you though, for the price and age, it's pretty good
helpful thank you
I just bought a used g85 just for youtube purpose. My s10 isn't bad, but limits the quality I want out of it.
Fair enough, my main issue with the G85 for RUclips was the auto focus, so just be aware if that
Can I edit videos from this camera with footage from a sony camecorder?
I don't see why not, all you'd really have to do to make them match is do some work with the colours so they look similar
Great video… lots of info, but the bird noise is obnoxious.
Yes, that's why I don't shoot A roll during the day anymore. But thanks for the feedback
wow it actually seems good for being a non pro camera
Yeah it's not too bad, there's a lot of things I wish it did better but for the price you can't really expect a whole lot more
