Great video! I bought this camera 2 months ago, and have just started making videos on youtube with it. Did a weatherproof video test to see how weather sealed it really was, and I got to say I was really impressed! 2 hours in the pouring rain, and it still works.
Martin Velsvik Didn't think the GX80/GX85 was weathersealed the GX8 is the only Panasonic camera in that style that is weathersealed. Even the new GX9 is not. You must have just been lucky. I've used Sony Broadcast Betacam camcorders in the rain and got away with not blowing one up and they are not weathersealed supposed to use a rain jacket.
Great review as usual, I binge watch you guys because your content is A+. Panasonic needs to give you commission because I purchased the G85 and left a 10 year relationship with Canon due to your review here. Obviously there are pros and cons to moving to Panasonic but overall I love the G85 and do not regret the change. For anyone using micro 4/3, get the Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 lens. It is one of the best value portrait lens I have seen, amazing results for about $300! The 12-60mm kit lens is also very impressive and probably the best kit lens I have seen.
A bigger sensor doesn't give you more light but it can handle higher ISOs. Allowing you to take pictures that are less grainy looking or not as 'noisy'. Having bigger pixels allows for more light per pixel and will help also help with high ISO pictures.
Greetings!! Question for Jordan Drake as well as Chris and TCSTV just bought the gh4...however im as I'm learning about the camera & lenses etc I was questioning/rethinking my decision...like should I have gotten the g85 (ibis)I'm definitely will be using the camera for recording while walking through neighborhood recording myself/others speaking/lectures, poetry, performing etc...thinking the in body stabilization will be big. I do plan on taking photos as well. Your wisdom is honored and praised...Peace
guys , i really dig your reviews, you do a great job, but can you stick to filming the review with the same camera. i find it really difficult/distracting ( actually impossible )to get a feel for any camera when the video footage is shot by another camera, especially when that camera can shoot video. as a film maker/ photographer im always interested to see what new cameras are capable of. as an example your review of the fuji xt2 was filmed with a6300 and xt2 which makes no sense cause sony and fuji are different companies and i coulndt tell which of the footage was which other than when you listed it .my request is rather shoot the reviews with same the camera to give the viewer a total experience of shooting with the camera flaws and all. its much easier to form an understanding of the cameras capabilities if the episode is filmed with the same camera. ok rant over , otherwise your channel is rad
Hi Toby, Whenever we have the opportunity to shoot a review of a video-centric camera with the same model we will (i.e. our recent 5D Mark IV episode), however we usually only have a single unit for review. Most distributors will not send us two copies, but when we have the option we certainly will. Thanks for watching! Jordan @ TCSTV
Robin, In many countries there are different import/export/tariff/tax regulations in regard to expensive products like professional video cameras. Professional video cameras generally cost way way more, so the import taxes are way more. A still camera that can only shoot video for less than 30 minutes at a time is not considered a professional video camera (at least in the USA tax laws), so it doesn't get the crap taxed out of it as it would if it shot over 30 minutes. Many manufacturers limit all their cameras to 29.9 minutes just to make it easier in the build process, but some have separate models that are not limited which they sell in countries without huge import taxes. (some people try to find ways to hack the cameras and crack that limit on US cameras)
I am glad you guys posted this video :) I commented in your last video asking you guys to review this camera... I am a happy subscriber... Thank you so much guys.
Hi guys, Your reviews are definitely the best !!! (in my opinion) Your complementarity is heartwarming, and Jordan without his beard is too cute ... Warmly, Phil
guys I really wanted to meet you in Cologne! I was there with another youtuber for Photokina and we did tried finding you guys but had no luck! Nice to see you enjoyed your visit to Cologne. I did a little video from my photokina trip as well... so sad not to have met :(
Schmetterlingtasche :-) Genau! Man you are so lucky to take those street photography shots in my homeland. Here in Germany you're not allowed take street photographies of people and put them on the internet without their permission and you can be sued by them if they find out. It's a sad thing to street photography. Only thing that is allowed, if the people are only accessories and not the main motive. Like pictures of the Dome with all the people in front of it. Thank you for the great review, the G80 seems to be a very interesting alternative to the E-M5 Mark II I guess.
You guys make the best reviews, love them, informative first, but with just enough humour without going into cheesy territory! On that Panny, i actually wish more camera manufacturers would go more into the function over form territory, for me function is everything.
The biggest reason I think vloggers don't embrace the Panasonic cams more is the video autofocus is so bad. If they had something close to canons dpaf these would be huge with the vlogging crowd. Has the video af gotten any better on the g85 compared to the g7?
Beautiful work guys, really like your street photos especially Jordan @ 11:30 cool shot . as for the fz camera , it looks like the 1 inch sensor has the same issues with dynamic range even in relatively low contrast situations people's faces were belown out.
For all around, video and still camera - G85 or Canon 80D? I'm torn. Have always owned Canon before, so I have a couple of lenses. G85 easier to carry around, 4K, and dual image stabilization.
How does the autofocusing of the Panasonic G7 & G85 compare to that of other mirrorless cameras like the Sony A6300 or the Fujifilm X-T2? I have heared very positive things about Panasonics AF, but I want to be sure and have something to rely on.
Between these 2 cameras in this video which would be the best for vlogging and best cinematic video experience or would I be better off to get the Canon 80D? In your opinion what would you suggest for a vlogger camera at the $1000 to $1200 range. Thanks and great video!!
G85! The 80d like the 70d has absolutely mush 1080, no IBIS, No 4k much bigger & heavier...and no future. G85 all the way for vlogging or a cinematic experience. Once you go 4k... no going back... not to mention the editing advantages(creativity). Good luck.
Thank you for the reply I really appreciate. Since I commented on this video I had counted out getting one of these and pretty much had my mind set on the G85. You mentioned edition advantages, what does this camera offer. I use Finial Cut Pro X for my editing software. Thanks again.
I was a bit surprised to hear Chris mention Touchpad AF as if it was a new feature on this camera. Touchpad AF has been around for quite a while, at least since the G5, if not earlier. Glad to hear it mentioned, though, as it's a fantastic feature that's often overlooked in reviews and discussions of Panasonic cameras. FWIW, Olympus included something similar for the first time on the E-M10II.
@6:15 "Panasonic's DFD is the best" I just watched Dan Watson's review on 1/4/17 "playing with the big boys" video and he says the autofocus is a problem. Are we talking about the same camera?
It depends on the mode you are talking about. DFD is excellent when taking the stills, it is unbelievably quick and it is the best contrast AF system beating even many phase ones. On the other hand, Panasonic makes AF in movie mode more stable and, therefore, it is often too lazy and slow.
Full disclosure I don't know your name (now I do) because I always go by the profile pictures but my first thought was "damn that is some excellent video quality, bet the girl that runs will comment about it". I was right lol
Camera companies are really masters at getting us to keep buying stuff aren't they? :) But honestly I love my GX85 but just with it had a better grip. It isn't a big deal until you start putting on heavy zoom lenses and your forced to hold the lens, because it's too front heavy and awkward to hold the body. Don't care for the added bulk of weather sealing and a mic input because standalone external mics are better anyway and staying somewhat small is what m43 is all about.
Wanted to complement my gx85 with a larger weather sealed body. Tried the om5 ii om1 ii, fuji xt1 and xt2 and finally went with a g85. The user interface, dual is, fastest focus, amazing video quality and the lenses available make it very hard to go back to olympus or fuji. The build quality is really amazing for the price too, taking a fuji after handling the g85 make the fuji feel like a cheap plastic body. The 12-60 is surprisingly usable too. quite hard to beat for the price. Will use the gx85 for prime lenses and the g85 for larger telephoto and my 7-14mm f2.8.
8:58 The most Canadian "Sorry" I've ever heard in my entire life haha. Great review guys! Love seeing all these cameras coming out of Photokina, Micro 4/3 really held their own against their Medium Format rivals. Any word on when we'll be seeing stuff about the GH5 and EM1 II?
I ordered the FZ2500, so I hope I made a good choice since the camera just came out. I shoot a lot of video and want a good still camera also. I can't wait to see more details on this camera from your site.
"I Love Pentax" Buttons. Nice touch. Great initial review. Look forward to getting my hands on a G85. I have the GX8 and a great lens collection. So I might like a G85 as a second body. This camera looks like such an improvement on the G7.
Really looking forward to seeing you guys tear into the final production FX2500. Did I hear Jordan right, this is all on the "standard" picture style? Looks great!
Great reviews - level of detail is just right for enthusiast and novices alike! The humor is a bonus. Do you by any chance remember any issues with the in camera mic picking up a hissing sound from the IBIS when not using a remote mic? The camera is starting to ship in Europe and some of the people who received are saying the camera is NOT usable for video because of poor audio and hissing noise in the background. I hope it is an isolated case and not a design flaw. It seems like a great all around camera with the right combination of size and features for the price.
The G80 is a very good all around camera for under 1000 indeed, but I'm in love with the new E-m1 MkII, i really hope the 1 stop improvement in the sensor is real. Amazing cameos of Chelsea and Matt btw :)
is it possible to use a australian firmware for this camera...the european model, g80 is restricted in software because it can shoot maximum 30 minutes of video!
I think your camera reviews are some of the best on RUclips. Love your relaxed presentation style and unbiased opinions. PS: What is your opinion on the 42.5 F1.7.
It's handy, but not nearly as cool as the FS5 electronic ND. The FZ2500 ND on works in two-stop increments, where the FS5 ND can move smoothly anywhere through its ND range. We'll talk about this when we do a full FZ2500 review. Jordan @ TCSTV
Guys, great video as usual! When are you going to make a review of FS5?? Have been waiting for it for a while... By the way, will you be comparing FZ2500 with RX10 II or III? I actually bought a RX10 II after I'd watched your review :)
Is this camera worth the upgrade if you are a G7 user already? If you aren't a G7 user is it worth it for the extra price over the G7 as the G7 with the 14-42mm kit has sold countless times in the US at $599 or less?
It depends on how important in-body image stabilization is to you. For videographers, it might well be worth the upgrade. But if you're using Panasonic glass, that's already stabilized. The trouble would probably be to get decent resale value for your G7.
Great video... since you were filming with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500 and not the G85, does that mean that the former is better at video? I want to buy a DSLR, and I'm really not sure which DSLR (of any company) is best suited for video at a $1000 price. Is there anything better then a G85 for recording video at the same price?
Great review. I'm have been doing my research to see what camera is best for me. It would be my first camera ever. I've been torn between so many options out there .... would you recommend this for a beginner who is just starting to get into video making?
Although less noise is always better, the noise of this camera at high ISO is clearly visible but quite pleasing to the eye, especially in black and white. In the old film days, we also didn't mind the grain (remember Kodak Tri-X?)
Hi I am from Detroit, I love your reviews and I always look forward to you guys for every review. I currently use Panasonic G7, Fz1000, and A6300. I shoot from Africa to Toronto. Music video, Tv shows, Documentary, and International Films. You the GoToGuys for my equipment.
I shoot Fuji, but that GM5 (with the 42.5/1.7 and the compact 35-100) is my on-the-fly, and I love it. Chris, make sure Panasonic keep that line going!
Hi dear Chris‚ thanks a lot for your useful videos. I have a question about G85. What memory card do you recommend to use with G85 in order not to have problem with 4k video and 4k photo shooting? Thank you very much ‚ in advance ‚for your answer.
I have the fZ1000 and GH4, you get the best results with Cinelike D over V-log any day. Not sure how the noise will be on the FZ2500 with V-log I'm guessing bad. Try Cinelike D in the next review too and rock that M.F. Cine D ( Con -5 Sharp -5 NR-2 and Sat -5 ). Also put the camera in picture mode (M) and change it to 1/3 ISO increments then go back to video. 1250 ISO is as clean as 800. Red Giant Colorista works really well for the grade. People complain about skin-tones but I have never had a problem. Can's wait for the FZ2500 full review =)
With the review model, did you have any problems with the IBIS while shooting video. We've recently bought the G80 (in UK) and the 5-axis stabilisation doesn't work. Image jumps when about when camera is panned etc. Thanks
Great video! I bought this camera 2 months ago, and have just started making videos on youtube with it. Did a weatherproof video test to see how weather sealed it really was, and I got to say I was really impressed! 2 hours in the pouring rain, and it still works.

I've used Sony Broadcast Betacam camcorders in the rain and got away with not blowing one up and they are not weathersealed supposed to use a rain jacket.
TCS videos are the only ones on RUclips where I put a thumbs up before even watching the video. I know I won't be disappointed :)
Ordered one of these yesterday. That IBIS on 1/4sec absolutely floored me, I can't wait for this thing.
you guys are the best, doesn't matter on which continent you're shooting.
Two camera reviews in a week? This is too much, this is heaven! I need to calm down! Great job guys!
I don't even care which camera you guys are reviewing, just enjoy watching the show!
Great review as usual, I binge watch you guys because your content is A+. Wow....what part of Calgary is this?
Or Cologne in germany...
I miss the reviews in Calgary, it's so much more photogenic than Cologne...
so we know u never where in Köln
They were in Germany for Photokina, they did the review there with the demo models of the cameras.
bigger sensor means more light, so good in low light? or is it about bigger pixel size individually.
A bigger sensor doesn't give you more light but it can handle higher ISOs. Allowing you to take pictures that are less grainy looking or not as 'noisy'. Having bigger pixels allows for more light per pixel and will help also help with high ISO pictures.
The ibis joke was KILLER...
Jordan does great Dad jokes - if it really was Jordan. I reckon Chris was simply passing the buck...
"DAD JOKES" 😂😂😂
The joke was lame. The "don't put it in the video" line (knowing full well it was going to be in the video) was hilarious.
What's better for photography - the GX8 or the G80?
Cheers
Was deciding between G85 and OMD EM5 MKII, stoked I went with the G85. Super crisp video and the IBIS is awesome.
The Laika Experience actually im a little unsure on which path to take.. haha.. what made u decide on the g85?
Jordans season greetings Jordan thank you brother you're another one who knows their cameras thank you again you and Chris are my friend
the best camera review channel on the tube.
Greetings!! Great review guys. Photokina has bought out a lot off varied and great cameras this year.
Both Panasonic cameras are on my shopping list.

Hi did i hear correctly when you said the European version of the FZ2500 shoots less video time than the USA version? If so why?
Robin, In many countries there are different import/export/tariff/tax regulations in regard to expensive products like professional video cameras. I agree.
Stop being a square maaaaaaaan. Starting to sound like a Trump supported. ;)
I am glad you guys posted this video :) I commented in your last video asking you guys to review this camera... I am a happy subscriber... Thank you so much guys.
Viel Spaß noch in Deutschland und mal wieder super Video.
Chris Nichols thank you for sharing the Panasonic g85 you're awesome brother when it comes to cameras you're the man to look for thanks again
1:21 That woman's reaction when he swore was amazing xD
Hi guys,
Your reviews are definitely the best !!! (in my opinion)
Your complementarity is heartwarming, and Jordan without his beard is too cute ...
Warmly, Phil
Great cameo by Chelsea and Matt in the ISO tests.
Great vid! Does the FZ2500 inherit the same awesome IBIS from the gx85 and g85?
guys I really wanted to meet you in Cologne!
Chris and Jordan. Just wanted to wish you both a Happy New Year! Looking forward to another year of great reviews and informative TCSTV videos!!
What kind of mic do you use and where is it hidden? Audio quality is very good
How is the video capabilities compared to the a6300?
Is the ibis hotel better stabilized than other hotels?
Air Espenilla There is currently a heated debate about whether it's more stable than the OIS Hotel that is connected to it.
11:43 Aww it's Matt and Chelsea.
Where is Tony though?
Watching from the corner.
Sterby jr. Lol
Matt looks hungry at Chelsea :P
But where's Kai??? He was actually there lol.
You guys make the best reviews, love them, informative first, but with just enough humour without going into cheesy territory! On that Panny, i actually wish more camera manufacturers would go more into the function over form territory, for me function is everything.
Schmetterlingtasche :D
Very cool! Greetings from Germany :-)
GH5 announcement hype! Also, welcome to Germany! Hope you enjoyed your trip.
The biggest reason I think vloggers don't embrace the Panasonic cams more is the video autofocus is so bad. If they had something close to canons dpaf these would be huge with the vlogging crowd. Has the video af gotten any better on the g85 compared to the g7?
Suck My Mod They aren't that bad for stuff that isn't too busy. The majority of beauty bloggers I watch use Panasonic, such as Wayne Goss.
Serious question: what's the lens filter at 1:43? It says B+W, does it turn colour into bw light?
How is the 4k crop in video, is it comparable to the g7? I heard its really bad.
Wondering the same thing
Great to see you guys in Germany - hope you had a good time :-)
Great job, you both are naturals and very knowledgeable
The AG-UX90 is out when you guys doing that?
Beautiful work guys, really like your street photos especially Jordan @ 11:30 cool shot . as for the fz camera , it looks like the 1 inch sensor has the same issues with dynamic range even in relatively low contrast situations people's faces were belown out.
is that Chelsea northup and Matt granger making faces at 11:50 ?!!
Thanks to you guys, i bought one!! G80 it is and i love it.

Would you go for panasonic g85 or em10 ii?
@6:15 "Panasonic's DFD is the best"
I just watched Dan Watson's review on 1/4/17 "playing with the big boys" video
and he says the autofocus is a problem.

Yep, I want the G85... already thinking about selling my GX85 for it. Great review! Thanks for sharing :)
Full disclosure I don't know your name (now I do) because I always go by the profile pictures but my first thought was "damn that is some excellent video quality, bet the girl that runs will comment about it". I was right lol
Lol, yeah :) I'm loving the GX85's 4K / IBIS for the price... but I reeeeeeally want a fully articulating screen 😊
I'm waiting for the omd-em1 2 because I want the articulating screen and the touchscreen. Once that camera is out I'll know what brand I'll go with.
I'm thinking of selling my GX8 for the G85 :)
Camera companies are really masters at getting us to keep buying stuff aren't they? :) But honestly I love my GX85 but just with it had a better grip. Absolutely best reviewer out there. Should review other products also.

YES I've been waiting for this!!!
Great video! I just hoped that Jordan would say something about the video capabilities of the G80 e.g. the available color profiles
Pure Canadian blood in that "Sorry". It's not even in the accent, it's just that he REALLY sounds sorry.
I liked the ibis hotel! Haha awesome video guys! Great to see the cameo
I ordered the FZ2500, so I hope I made a good choice since the camera just came out. I shoot a lot of video and want a good still camera also. I can't wait to see more details on this camera from your site.
Is there a shoot time limit on this camera or is ti like the GH4 with the unlimited record time?
This review helped me a lot. thx. and so funny to see you in my good old germany.
Those Pentax pin buttons...fantastic.
Also, it was great seeing you in Cologne! It's a shame you didn't stay with us very long, but now I know why ;-)
"I Love Pentax" Buttons. Nice touch. Great initial review. Look forward to getting my hands on a G85. I have the GX8 and a great lens collection. So I might like a G85 as a second body. This camera looks like such an improvement on the G7.
well done.. Really entertaining stuff. Both your acting skills are quite amazing
Love your review. Can't wait for the FZ2000 one. More in depth for video capabilities please. Thank you, guys.
Really looking forward to seeing you guys tear into the final production FX2500.
Did I hear Jordan right, this is all on the "standard" picture style? Looks great!
at 1:45 what does it mean by F8, and 5 seconds?
Great reviews - level of detail is just right for enthusiast and novices alike! The humor is a bonus.

How does the G85 compare to the A6500? Debating between the two for shooting videos.
CLUTCH1st I think the A6500 should be compared to the upcoming GH5 to be fair.
The A6500 will smoke this camera.
Hi there! Please tell me how this g85 compares to sony a6000 ?? Witch one to chose ? Thanks
Interesting cameras. Did you enjoyed cologne?
Very much so! Also got a chance to visit Nurburg and Cochem! Can't wait to get back in the future.
CHRIS@TCSTV
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Both nice cities as well. Did you tried some of our beer?
The G80 is a very good all around camera for under 1000 indeed, but I'm in love with the new E-m1 MkII, i really hope the 1 stop improvement in the sensor is real.
Amazing cameos of Chelsea and Matt btw :)
The quality of the content you guys are producing is top notch! Keep it up!! You need to come to Sydney, Australia tough :)
At 10:00 I know which hotel chain to choose for less blurry photos.
Wow I'm very impressive with the G80/G85. Cannot wait to see the new GH5
I laughed really hard at that joke. Keep them up, Jordan :D
is it possible to use a australian firmware for this camera...the european model, g80 is restricted in software because it can shoot maximum 30 minutes of video!
Would you recommend G85 in 2022 for Streetphotography ? I don't shoot videos at all.
Hi I want to share my personal opinion since I own the camera. Yes I would recommend it for street photography, I'm very happy with the results.
11:45, is that Chelsea Nothrupp???
Chelsea and Matt Granger having a fling ;)
A scoop!
I’m hearing the photo quality isn’t that good compared to others but the video quality is great? Any truth to this?
Panasonic G85 or Nikon D7100?? Interested in photography and also videography
What wireless mic setup are you using?
I think your camera reviews are some of the best on RUclips. Love your relaxed presentation style and unbiased opinions.
PS: What is your opinion on the 42.5 F1.7.
Wait, did I see an auto setting on the ND? That's amazing! How does it compare to the auto-ND on the FS5?
It's handy, but not nearly as cool as the FS5 electronic ND. The FZ2500 ND on works in two-stop increments, where the FS5 ND can move smoothly anywhere through its ND range. We'll talk about this when we do a full FZ2500 review.

No one?
I'm trying to figure out this for myself too.
It all will come to 4K video tests comparison.
It depends on how important in-body image stabilization is to you. For videographers, it might well be worth the upgrade. But if you're using Panasonic glass, that's already stabilized. The trouble would probably be to get decent resale value for your G7.
The fan noise definitely can't be heard when you record in a quiet room, I tried different places and is ok
Thank you Chris thank you Jordan great video seasons greetings
Great video guys!
Although less noise is always better, the noise of this camera at high ISO is clearly visible but quite pleasing to the eye, especially in black and white. In the old film days, we also didn't mind the grain (remember Kodak Tri-X?)
Are you making review Panasonic FZ2500? I´m big fan of your reviews. They really useful. Thanks.
Chris, make sure Panasonic keep that line going!
i've been waiting for this review!!
Great reviews guys, thanks.
Love your reviews guys...nice video and i hope you enjoied the photokina and the city of Köln
Hi dear Chris‚
thanks a lot for your useful videos.
Thanks
G80/G85 or E-5 Mark II ? Just curious what you guys think? Thx! Great review!
