How’s the autofocus on this ?
I disagree. I am a university professor and for educational purposes I use this camera for all my pre-recorded lectures either indoors at home or indoors in a university building or outdoors. Does what I need with a lavilier microphone or shotgun microphone. My only complaints: no headphone monitor, the microphone in cable and the flippy screen get in the way of each other, and that Panasonic has not expended the effort to make it a compatible webcam straight into a computer.
Also, given that my other camera is not weather sealed and I have 7 mft lenses, I use the G80/G85 for photography outdoors when the weather is not the best.
4k live crop makes amazing b-roll with that option. it's still hard to beat this camera. I have a g9 and getting a g85 for night street photography. Gotta like the weather sealing too!! Panasonic still upgrading warranty to 3 years too. Autofocus is not that bad if you choose single area.
G7 and G85 are my workhorse as a videography hobbyist. they are definitely the perfect beginner cameras for me as they are so easy to understand. They are relatively cheap yet capable, also while I mentioned that it's a great beginner's camera, it does not hold your hand entirely. It will still force you to learn your craft due to it's limitations.

*I have 2 Panasonics. The First One being the G7 and This One being My Second. I Love the 5 Access Stabilizer and I love the Video Quality it Gives But you are correct It does have a Slow Auto focus when doing and type of Close up as it does tend to hunt slightly but doesn't bother me as I usually can Cut that out Post Edit but Weather Sealed means living in Alaska I can use this in the cold. It's My Main Camera with my G7 as a Back-up. Nice Review *

That was a joke, I have the M50 and G85 as well as the G9. If you know how to use the G85 it's a beast, no record limit awesome 4k and so good on battery life. My M50's 4k is 90% unusable, can't use it in the rain, record limits. That was so painful to watch, there is nothing wrong with the Lumix colours!!!

I absolutely love this camera. Very user-friendly, intuitive controls, worls great with my old OM vintage lenses, and takes fantastic images at a great price point.
Often prefer it over the S5, and its great for wildlife.
I think were in the realm of "everything gets better" and we miss a gem when we see it, because something else is "better".
Bought one 3 weeks ago.. love it! bought a 2nd today for my webcam/B-roll. Need some glass for them.. i picked up the 25mm and 30mm macro. of course ill have two 12-60mm
I got this camera on Monday and I was surprised with the 4k and 1080p recording capability. At the time I purchased this the price was a bit expensive but I think it's the best camera for under 1000 dollars. After doing some testing I figured the best focus setting for me was face tracking (not the one point) The 49 point I alright for focusing on a general area and is kinda fast but not as fast as the face tracking. I did some tests focusing on random objects with face tracking and the focus sensitivity at +2 and its focuses in under 2 seconds every time. All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this and since it has 4k and CineLikeD it's kinda future proof.

One crucial thing he didn't mention: the G85 has 4K and 1080p unlimited recording time, which will be very useful for podcasts, events and seminars.
I was having a SUPER tough time deciding what camera to get coz of the recording limit. I needed something thats simple- 1080hd, 2 hour recording, always on tripod, no post color correction, point and shoot, with some level of iso, fpoint and color balance (minimum) and now im Torn between g7 and gh8… any advice? (Ps- i come from Zoom q2n AV recorder so anything and everything is an upgrade for me lol)

I got an old Sony HX400V camera just so I practice and learn the basic then I will probably move on to newer models.

Definitely G85. Bitrate might be lower but the codec is much better so you get a more detailed image, also better lowlight performance and dynamic range. IBIS is game changer. Pick the m50 if you want to do vlogs

I film a lot of 4x4 and camping videos. So what is being filmed is often moving pretty quick. I don’t know much about cameras because I’m knew to all of this. Would you suggest the Panasonic G85 or the Canon m50?

With an adapter yes.
Yes with an adapter but you would lose the ability to use auto focus and other features of the canon lens. There are some adapters that can adapt the electronic connections but they are super hard to find and very expensive.

*It's a GREAT Camera and I use this as My Main Camera, Did and Unboxing and Compared it too My G7. The Lens's all work just fine and sometimes I find myself swapping between lens's *

I compare the G7 to the M50 because to me they are almost similar in that fact that they both Do 4K, yes the auto focus is better on the M50 but neither have stabilizer features which if you're a vlogger can be somewhat of an issue especially if you aren't familiar with techniques to make smooth hand motion videos. Both have a GREAT Line of lens but I think the G7 is still the best Budget camera over all. I bought the G85 because of the stabilization it has an the auto focus is slightly better it's the stabilization and the weather seal that I like and when I first picked up the M50 is was almost TOO light and felt cheap to me, but it's still a GREAT camera but I think the G85 is slightly better when it comes to videos. Although I have to admit I DO wanna a Sony Alpha Model..lol say the A7ii, BUT, I can wait.
have a g85 in the mail now. I've had a cannon for awhile- and though I like it- I want the 4k and the ability to art my video a bit more.

I can try! though the vlog profiles will give you very good results if you color grade them!

Just bought a used G81 (Swiss variant of G85) for US$465, including the battery-grip extension AND 12-60mm kit lens. Low shutter count and in mint condition. Save your money and shop for a more capable unit at the $400-$500 price point. The G85 is a great kit at a reasonable price point...you need to look for a good second hand deal.

Regarding this camera’s photographic capabilities, this reviewer does not know what he is talking about. In the early 2000’s I remember studio portrait photographers raving about their 10 megapixel images printed at 20 x 30 inches . And I remember being thoroughly impressed when looking at those prints. It is not the pixel quantity so much as the skill of the person using the camera. It is a tool, and like all tools, it has limitations. Know them to your advantage. On the other hand, the commentary on video capabilities of the G85 is helpful.

Invest in the leica lenses because the field of view is slightly larger than the standard cheaper lenses - and in 4K you need as much FOV as it’s already slightly cropped
(1:36) You do realize, the point of this camera is for photography, video is bonus feature, and you suggested not choosing it for it’s intended purpose, why... Because the sensor size. Like as if you are stating micro four thirds cameras are inadequate for photos. - Curious....
That’s like saying don’t buy a Mazda Miata roadster if you like to drive, the car is too small... BTW, the dead give away who this camera is intended for; It has a built in flash, but no headphone jack...
Also, (5:32) 4K live crop, can be found on the ZS80, ZS100, GX80/81/85, all released in the same year 2016, also GH5 and G9 in 2017, plus the GH5S the following year 2018.
Once you look past those couple of missteps, the video is not half bad. I obviously watched...

The colors and the autofocus made it a deal breaker for me, but I am a noob in working with video. Canon has the best colors hands down. I also tried the Canon M50, but it lacked too many features.
This is not a DSLR, is a mirrorless and Sony a7 III is not a DSLR either, they are mirrorless, you have to understand the difference.
You should review the GH5/GH5S
