BAD NEWS for SELLERS. SXS UTV sales are COLLAPSING.

  • UTV SXS sales have been declining over the last couple of months and we have not hit bottom yet. Is it time to buy and upgrade or maybe add something to your quiver? I dont think we've hit bottom yet but there are quite a few people who bought high that are now selling low.
    Now that inventory and production are catching up, those temporary buyers need to unload the stop gap cars they bought and others who entered the market while they had free time are finding the use not being quite as easy now that theyve returned to work.
    One mans loss is another mans gain they say. What do you think is going to happen? Have the economic winds changed?

    What everyone is noticing in the UTV market is a microcosm of what is currently happening in the housing market and automotive & motorcycle markets. It is more than just a market correction. It is this ridiculously high inflation for consumer goods, energy, coupled with the a Recession. It's a perfect storm. It's not going to get better any time soon. Bottom line: people have begun to feel a real squeeze on their budgets and they have to make hard choices among these three things: Food, fuel, rent. These UTV and outdoor luxury toys will be the first to go. If your income is good now, then this is the time to tighten down the hatches and NOT upgrade or buy something else or something new, unless you have the cash laying around. Even then, best to save it, because you will never know what is around the corner, whether it's Christmas or hard times! You will see dealers, etc. going out of business, more people out of work, and more used outdoor luxury toys on sale.

    Best thing that could happen is the used market take a dump, quickly followed by the new market falling on its face for a couple of years. I realize EVERYTHING has gone up, but for what we get with any of these SxS machines the prices are just insane. That might force manufacturers to at least produce some better quality, more realistically priced offerings. Idk about anyone else but I was in the dealership about to trade up to a Turbo S and then at the last min. said no..... just be happy with what you have (18 XP1K). 6 months later I was laid off after 7 years with the company. Spent 10 months trying to change careers. Luckily I land a bad ass job, and recovered. But after all that uncertainty I felt like I have a new outlook on toys and extracurricular activities. This fallout and then price gouge put alot of people who normally would have upgraded, out of the market. Everyone is keeping in place what they have cause we need stability.

    Interesting video. I’m watching from across the pond in the UK. It’s been a crazy time for our ATV/SXS market over here with such a lack of new stock, second hand prices inflated, etc…. I believe we’re going to see the same thing over here with the SXS market, just a bit after you guys. The other thing I’m seeing is a huge reduction in Yamaha’s dealer network, they cut at least 39 dealers from their network, some were really good dealers, all hitting their sales targets pre covid. But Yamaha UK have changed there marketing strategy and basically told dealers to buy into new marketing strategy or face being dropped. It would cost the dealer approx. £10k to do so. Some said yes they would, but we’re still dropped. Some just ducked out. Crazy times!

If you over paid for something in the last three years because you just had to have it whether it be homes, automobiles, motorcycle, RV’s, side-by-side‘s bicycles you name it. That’s on you. But nobody ever wants to take responsibility for their own reckless spending. My favorite Warren Buffett quote is… be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful. The last three years, people were beating each other off with a stick to overpay for everything. So I took advantage of the market to sell most of the big ticket items I had while people were overpaying. Now I anticipate or hope to find some great deals in the near future and I will. I never overpay for anything… but I’m always right there to help people out of the stuff they can’t afford or shouldn’t have bought when they’re giving it away. 😂😂

    One thing I notice is that a trailer is necessary to tow a SxS of extra width & length. Add in the cost of the SxS, plus the trailer and we're talking notable expense here. The tow vehicle is usually a nice modern, read expensive, pickup and now I'm thinking there's $60,000 plus here in money spent, or likely on payments. I'm curious of you see the market for work-oriented SxS doing the same thing. I've been keeping my eyes open for a good used 2-seat SxS with a dump bed for working in my woods. I don't need to go fast or rock crawl, I just need to get where I'm going and haul some gear with me. I do most of this with my tractor that has been modified for working in the woods. However, there are times when my trails are too soft to get out there with it, so having something lighter on the land would be helpful.
    At the prices I've seen over the last couple of years, I just can't justify it. Hoping to see prices come down a bit and availability improve

    • @sxsoffroad
      @sxsoffroad  Год назад +1

      Honestly a base model UTV like a ranger or defender will do what you need it to do and they have gone up but not as much. I feel like these rigs are more “one time purchase” items because they’re meant for work not fun/abuse. A crossover for me would be the commander. That’s a highly capable machine that can also work in the woods.
      The working UTV class outsells the sport SXS class overall. That’s why these crossovers like the General and the Commander exist. You can work them all week and still take the family out on trails on the weekends

    • @JohnMcNerney
      @JohnMcNerney Год назад

      @@sxsoffroad Thank you for the response. This will be strictly a work-in-the-woods vehicle. The closest thing to recreation would be cruising the trails to see if repairs were needed or taking a friend on a tour of the place, so no need for crossover capabilities. My only holdup now is finding a suitable small utility UTV. (Honda 520 is on my short list) Unfortunately, no one seems to have one in stock, and the local dealers won't even let me place an order. They say they'll "let me know when one becomes available", and seem very reluctant to even give a ballpark/budgetary price.

    The funnest machines with 4 tires are ATV's 4 wheelers...they're a lot faster more maneuverable, stop faster, weigh less for the hp, the fun factor isn't even comparable, they have 2 to 3 seater models (CanAm), better gas mileage, way easier to trailer, and a lot more benefits. And a fraction of the price to buy and maintain than a POS UTV. The only 2 ITV's worth having is the top of the line 2 seater highest hp and all the options and that will run around $40,000... and remember these things aren't mean to drive 100,000 miles. Not even close. They wear out fast! The only other utv worth having is CanAm Fully Enclosed one wit heat air heated steering wheel and seats etc now that is worth it, but the motor in that one is'nt fast at all. The spring set up is for slow utility type riding low speed, so fun factor is much lower than high HP... I see them and people aren't having the fun they have on ATV's and especially motorcycles. Motorcycles blow them both out of the water when it comes to fun. Anyway that's my rant but what do I know.

      @@Blueknight1960 not abuse. Here’s the saga:
      The first major problem happened when I took it to Moab the first time. I went over and did a small ledge on cliffhanger and folded the steering rod down and snapped the lower ball joint. That was within about 45 minutes of me driving it off the trailer. After that was repaired, I began snapping ball joints and tie rod ends pretty regularly. I swapped out the a arms and that helped. The stock ones had bowed out by almost 2 inches. The snapping of ball joints happened one or two times every time I took it out on the trail. It became the bad luck machine. I would be going down the road and not even a rough one and it would just suddenly snap and drive me down to the ground. I nearly rolled it five or six times because of this. I got to the point where I was just too scared to drive it. It was involved in an accident at one point, everything was gone through, frame checked, and beefed up with every aftermarket part you can imagine to strengthen it up. No luck, it just kept having problems and at one point the engine seized. It turned out that the oil pump wasn’t moving things like it should have, and it burned out. 4500 bucks for a rebuild on that motor. Needless to say, I was done with it.
