  • Here are some of the things that have slowed down the side by side market. UTV sales continue to crash. UTVs are not worth what they were a year ago. Who are the people buying these expensive toys? Small business owners, family people, blue-collar workers, skilled laborers. These are the people who value experiences in time with their families above all else. They have chosen this as their hobby, their investment, and turned it into a passion.
2023 model year SXS’s don't offer anything very exciting as far as engines or suspension or anything. innovation has paused. Shipping slowdowns are letting up, inventory is building, but the used SXS market is getting very attractive. 10-20% reduction in used UTV asking prices have happened in the last 60 days. Now is a good time to buy used.
"Those are toys and they're too expensive. They are only for the rich." Yes, they have gotten way more pricey than they used to be. But why have they? The current administration's monetary policies have definitely caused troubles as far as the rising prices of goods in every single area of every industry. Inflation has driven up the cost to produce as well as the cost to purchase any new item.
Let me be clear, this is not a political video. It is merely about policies. It is about observations. It is about how some of the things that we have dealt with over the last two years have led to the lack of innovation in the SXS UTV market, Although it is not limited to this industry.
Much like boat people are boat people, airplane people are airplane people, UTV SXS owners are folks that like to play and play hard.
We are on an adventure in Arizona in this video. There will be more about the place that we visited so please make sure you are a part of this journey.

Same thing is happening in the dirt bike market. The latest top models are still in demand (new) but the mid and lower-level stuff is not selling, and the used market has stagnated big time. It feels like it's much bigger than normal seasonal variation.

This is why I only work for things and pay cash for them .....Always some guy at work stressing out about how they are gonna make there side by side payment that month that cost as much as a new car to drive to work... Or camper payment that cost as much as a small house 🤣 if anyone has one for sale cheap let me know ...and if you have the title ...

Financing something like this is normally a bad idea. It isn’t if the money is cheap and you have the cash anyway, but once you’re in and paid off, you can continually trade up to better and better machines as time goes on. I think the 2 biggest mistakes people make are 100% financing and rolling in their accessories at the dealer.

Good music and video, but no real information or numbers to why the UTV market is crashing.

You know I was gonna give my opinion in sort of a hostile manner, but I see you’ve been chill so i want to respect that and be chill too.
I think we have 3 fundamental problems in this country. First, we are way too accepting of debt. Second, we have a problem with wanting to “get rich quick”. Third, we view people who are not in our situation as either the enemy or as being “incorrect” as to how life is.
Debt. These SXS’s are toys, expensive toys put in places that can result in expensive damage. SXS’s only work during a healthy economy. During hard times these are expensive toys that suddenly become worthless when the markets fall(and they always fall). So if you buy a SXS, don’t think “oh I’ll see it one day when I need the money” because when that day comes you won’t be able to get anything for it. Only buy one if you’re okay with never seeing that money again.
Getting rich quick. This could be lumped in with chasing ever higher profit margins. Too many Americans want everything for nothing. We “invest” in crypto and other stocks without actually knowing what’s going on. We merely hop on the hype train. Well the train was going well, but has started to slow. And now all the riders are forced to bail, losing thousands in the process.
As for profit margins. Too many companies have sought ever increasing profit margins which is starting to hurt the economy. Americans used to get raises and bonuses and were made to feel a part of the company. This led to pride in one’s work and generations working at one place. These actions provided a very solid bedrock for our economy. Nowadays companies don’t do that. They cut material quality/pay/bonuses in pursuit of better margins. But the problem is there’s only so much profit within an industry, it’s just life. It’s like opening a lemonade stand and continuously trying to make more money by cutting pay, using less lemons and less sugar. That doesn’t work as a long term solution. Companies need to invest in ways to grow if they want to make more profit, don’t just keep quality. Sorry I know it’s harder/riskier to grow than to just squeeze what you have but it must be done.
This also applies to housing. The average American cannot afford the average home. That is a horrifying thought. Because who is buying them? It’s investors and those already established. Some may say “it’s their money they’ve got the right to own as many homes as they want”, which is true. But there will be consequences. The fact is that a 29 year old competing against. 50 or 60 year old looking for a 2nd/3rd rental home is going to lose. The older buyers just have had more time to acquire more wealth. The youth today are essentially joining a game of Monopoly 4 hours after it’s started. At that point the wealthier players are already established, there’s not much you can do about it.
We also need to look into why housing has exploded in values. For most of American history a home wasn’t really an appreciating asset. So why is it all of a sudden one?
Homes are much like the NYC cabbie retirement fund. NYC cabbies would buy their medallions and then sell them for 20x when it was time to retire. And this happened for generations. Unfortunately.
    20, 400, $8000, 160000, 3.2 mil, 64 mil
This just doesn’t last. It’s not sustainable expecting the younger generation to pay more and more and more. Nowadays no one is becoming a cabbie because the loan to become a cabbie is more expensive than the pay. And all the cabbies who bought $160k medallions can’t retire because no one is willing to buy their medallion for what they need.
Lastly we Americans need to accept that we are a large country with different cultures. Things like EVs are pushed by urban areas because frankly they work there. I live in MD and an EV can get me from my home to NYC which is about as far as I ever need to drive. As someone into Motorsports I understand the appeal of diesel as well, if I had to tow something hundreds of miles of course I’d pick a diesel over an EV, but that’s just picking the right gun for the job. You don’t bring a 22 to hunt bear and you don’t bring a 50cal to hunt pigeons.
But blaming presidents for the ways things are is a way of putting on the blinders and labeling “x” party as the one cause of all issues. I’ve grown up under both parties. And so every president for the past 30 years has led us to the issues of today.
Presidents are like steering wheels to large ships in a large storm. Whether you go left or right, it’s only going to shift the ship in that direction not cause a sudden change. And depending upon the waves of the storm it might not even listen to the guy at the wheel.

My wife and I have been Sport ATV riders for over 20 years (started riding in our late 20s) As SXSs started to become much more popular, we thought we would make the change to the new fad!
Now, being in our late 40s, we figured that what we needed was a comfortable well built SXS, that will comfortably handle the washes and desert mountain trails here in NW Arizona. So, we bought a Blue, $23000 OTD, 2021 KRX1000. After driving it on the very same trails my wife and I have been riding our Raptors 700 and 350s on for years, the 1st thing we noticed was the size and the noise. Yes it was a comfortable ride, but it barely fit on many of the mountain trails that out ATVs fit easily on! And the cab noise...forget about having a conversation without screaming at one another. Also, we felt totally detached from the off-road," hands on" driving experience that we have when we drive our ATVS. Here in the high deserts of Arizona, the temps can average 95 all summer long. When you combine the 95 temp along with the very hot uninsalated radiator hoses that run just below the drivers cup holder, with no place for that heat to go, except on your skin, it can get VERY hot in the cab. Thick dust also invades the cab from it seems everywhere! For me, driving a SXS is no different than driving a pickup truck with a performance shock setup going off-road except, Performance PU trucks or Jeeps with the right shock setups are cool, quiet and mostly clean to ride in.
One other thing...Why do I always feel like when I'm riding my wave runner, It feels like I'm riding my Raptor700 and when I'm driving or riding in a ski boat, it feels like I'm driving a SXS???
Oh, I sold my KRX 3 months after I purshased it. It had under 400 miles on it and was in perfect condition. After 6 weeks, I got "1" call on Craig's list and sold it for $19000. I'm not sure that my experience is the same reason for the decline in the SXS market, but just maybe, SXS owners might be getting a little tired of driving their VERY expensive, loud, dusty and at times, kinda boring SXSs down dirt roads or trying to show off to their buddies how awesome their turbo Can am can can climb any rock wall in Utah and they break something major in the process!
