  • SxS/UTV laws vary from state, county and townships. Can you get ticketed by mail for a violation that happened months ago from evidence on a You Tube video? Are UTV ordinances for counties/townships easy to find? Let me know what you think.

Look, people will never be happy with you driving anything off-road. They will always complain and they will always try to regulate just to control. Not saying some idiots don’t need to be controlled, but that’s a very small percentage.
You just have to keep your head and use common sense. Don’t be rude and taking others safety for granted. Don’t haul ass by hikers, horse riders, other vehicles, campers, etc. don’t go off trail making your own and think of the trail while you’re driving it. Don’t put gigantic holes from your tires. One last thing. DON’T LEAVE YOUR DAMN TRASH. THIS ISN’T YOUR HOUSE WHERE YOU HAVE TRASH EVERYWHERE. TREAT IT BETTER THAN YOUR BOSSES HOUSE.

I like the idea of one way trails. The orv popularity is really blowing up especially in lake county. I’d feel safer on one way trails even if it meant higher speeds. That’s coming from a guy on a dirt bike that likes to ride the side by side trails every now and then.

I too often ride with my son on dirtbikes and have noticed an increase in traffic. All the trails in the LP are packed. Have had to bomb off the trail to not get run over by rzrs. They go fast, tear up the trails, etc. I used to go often to ride down here, now i do not so much anymore. The UP is however different, bigger, and not as packed on the trails.
Also, the DNR have noticed and are sitting off trails to ticket you and or harass you. Have had some bad encounters with them for BS.

I have heard many people getting tickets after they posted the videos online. The real thing is, all you have to do is put at the beginning of the video, filmed on a closed or controlled course. They have a very difficult time winning that.

We have wide open and potentially high speed trails so there’s a lot of temptation to hammer down, other states from what I’ve seen on vids are slower more technical type riding
The one way trails would be a good step, the biggest thing is people need to realize it’s not a closed course race track so they need to take into account there are others out there
Pulling off the trail to get out of the way to take a break could go either way because your supposed to “stay on the trail” so if you pull off in a spot others have torn up you could be guilty by default

I agree one way would be best but, in some areas, thats just not visible. We all like going fast and I do in the right setting like running the Texas Mile or other race events. As for the trail goes these machines were mainly made to get back to nature and enjoy it. Due to that I think a speed limit of 30 would be plenty and still not kill anyone or anything at that speed with good brakes. Also had two friends that have gotten killed for going fast in the woods!

In my state (AZ), there is idian land, forset service land, BLM land and state trust land, road that require street legal registration and trails that only need an OHV decal. And each with its own rules and regulations. Easy to violate a rule or regulation just by crossing the boundary from one to the other. On trust land, we can't stop for ANY reason (as the law reads) unless eash person in our party has a $15 recreational permit ($20 for a family of four), not even to take a picture or a leak. I know in NYS (and maybe some othrers) there are one way trails, two way trails and "no way" permanently closed trails

Double standards are not good. The laws are the law. Would you drive your truck down the road at 40- 50 mph just because you can legally probably not. If you invite the law enforcement in, they will be there. It's called law enforcement. If they see your speedometer and it's 40- 50 mph it's called self incriminating. Be smart.

Do you ever attend planning meetings with the DNR or WATVA? Or call your representatives in Madison when there is an important vote concerning riding? Or do you just complain about it on RUclips? So many love to bitch and complain, but so few have enough ambition to do anything to help themselves.

Chances are if you can afford a 20-60k sxs you are a hard working possibly even upstanding citizen who pays a shit ton of taxes already and needs a release from the monotony of the whole damn system! One way trail systems sound ok on paper, but we all know someones gonna f it up with a good game of chicken 🐓.
