The singer, Dee Snyder is a hero to everyone in the music industry. He went to Washington DC and fought off the dogs because they tried to censor music. He's the reason warning labels are on all albums.
And he was joined in Washington by John Denver, who was totally against censoring anyone's music. Two completely different styles, but great artists fighting the good fight together.
Not really Snider, John Denver, and Frank Zappa all testified against censorship and the proposed warning system. Though the system was never implemented, the hearing led to the music industry adopting what is now the generic "Parental Advisory: Explicit Content" label.[
In reality Tipper Gore found out about the meaning of a small handful of songs by specific artists that had songs she didn't want her children to hear, and wanted some way to identify these songs before her kids heard them. The result was those warning labels, that musicians used as a badge of honor. It was never about censorship. The warning labels didn't work any more than the movie rating system... people wanted content based warnings not a general warning. The record industry wasn't "saved" because after that the music industry went into a major decline. And then the tech boom hit, Napster and other file sharing killed off record sales, then the switch to digital media just about wiped it out other than last holdouts like me that still buy physical media and use CD players.

I'm one year late, but I just wanted to say that I believe the lyrics in The Price are talking more about the life of being a Rock star and the expectations one has going in that don't necessarily turn out as expected, and the struggles one must endure to get where they want to. It really is a deep song, and can resonate with people facing different struggles in life, but still I believe it more about the difficulties one faces when setting off to become a musician, and finding out that it's not always what you expect it to be.

Hey Amber, you're absolutely correct about what this song's talking about, it is indeed talking about the life of a recording artist and all the sacrifices that they make, especially when they're on tour as those moments can be very lonely at times
Hi Jay and Amber, first off Dee Snider was the lead singer in Twisted Sister, ok now that we got that out of the way, I used to live on Long Island New York, the birthplace of Twisted Sister. I grew up with watching them play in all the NY, NJ and Long Island clubs and loved watching the band perform and grow over the years, it took a long time and a move to the UK for Twisted Sister to hit it big and get signed to a record label. Their first album called Under The Blade was recorded in England while the band was living there trying to break through and contains, in my opinion, some of the bands best songs, the title song Under The Blade, What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You and The Bad Boys Of Rock n Roll are a few of the songs off of their first album. After they spent some time in England they got signed to a US label and came home to record their second album You Can’t Stop Rock n Roll, it was a good album with the title song as the best on the album. Their third album, Stay Hungry, catapulted them to their short lived stardom with songs We’re Not Gonna Take It, I Wanna Rock, Burn In Hell and The Price. Subsequent albums Come Out and Play and Love Is For Suckers didn’t do as well (I loved both albums myself, as I was a fan from their beginning), Twisted Sisters slow slide down was caused by a few factors, one: The Grunge music scene rising, Two: MTV slowly dropping, Three: the Hair/Glam Metal scene slowly falling and Four: good old internal problems within the band did Twisted Sister in. I still love their music and still listen to it today. Stay Cool 😎 and… \m/ Stay Metal \m/
Back in the 80s, the record companies made the band's put out a power ballad after their first single on their albums. Some bands didn't like that but did it snyway
Another band that I’m glad you finally revisited. Twisted Sister have been around since the late 70’s and this song is from one of their biggest selling albums, “Stay Hungry”. They have another song off that album called “We’re Not Gonna Take It” which is probably their largest hit, thanks in a big part to MTV and the video at the time. Other songs I recommend by them are “Burn In Hell” and “Heroes Are Hard to Find”. The later is from a horror movie that Dee Snider wrote and stared in called “Strangeland”. Twisted Sister reunited to do this song for the movie soundtrack.
I'm glad to know that the lyrics were paid attention to because mainly the chorus is so true to life in general. This is and always be my favorite song by Twisted Sister. So powerful if you listen to the lyrics. :)
Hair/glam metal bands from the 80's were huge with the ballads. They all had them, but Motley Crue was the one to break them into the mainstream with "Home Sweet Home", which led to all the other bands' ballads getting big in its wake.
One of the things I remember about Twisted Sister when I was a kid... Watching a 1980's (Disney) movie called "Flight of the Navigator", where the kid, David, remarked about a girl (Played by Sarah Jessica Parker) having purple hair... She said, oh, I went to concert last night with some friends... David remarked how his mom took him to see the BeeGees a couple months ago, to which she said she went to see Twisted Sister... There is more to this story, but I am trying to minimize spoilers in case you decide to watch and/or react to it. It is a good family movie.
Wife here..,True Glam Rock Here.., The Lead singer Dee Snider (quite the character)Jay..!! indeed., but was quite well spoken when battling Tipper Gore in Federal Court about warning labels on Music..Hey Guys..Motley Crue had a few Ballads but..the most famous.."Home Sweet Home"!!🤘❣
Motley Crue has THE ballad that started the 80’s power ballad craze. Home Sweet Home. After that, every hard rock band was required to have at least one ballad on every record.
Can you guys pretty please do the extended official video for We're Not Gonna Take It? It is absolutely hilarious - and Dee Snyder is a BEAST. One of the BEST videos of the 80's.
Truly a song that deserve more radio play than it actually got I think it was the third single from this record and a damn good power ballad. Their best power ballad is on the second record the one before this one it's when he wrote for his wife Suzanne and it says beautiful about it as you're ever going to hear I think it's easily every bit as good as any classic love songs such Michelle by The Beatles or Lady Jane by The Rolling Stones it's just a classic beautiful song. If you get a chance to check it out it's called you're not alone it's on the can't stop rock and roll record
The opening line sets it up. "How long I have wanted this dream to come true". Being a rock Star. The price is what they have to do to get there. Dee Snider the lead singer had small children and they made it and where on the road away from family. The Price.
Definitely my favorite TS song and also Dee Snider had some great 80s’ hair!! Although Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe has my all time favorite hair from the era!! Lots of rockers tried to mimic his hair and style!!! 🤟🏽🤟🏽
TS was big here in the NorthEast, since they were from NY. Got to see them as a teenager in a bar in Norwalk CT & it was pretty cool. My bass player at the time was a big fan of theirs. They would come out in the jeans & t-shirts then switch over to the elaborate costumes personally made by Dee's wife. Or vice versa. At the time they were playing covers by Judas Priest & other metal acts, on top of their own material. When the first EP came out I got to hear it fresh off the presses. It has WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW on it & if you really want to get the whole presentation of what they are about, do that song. They used to open with it every show. UNDER THE BLADE came out months later & the title track is another one you need to hear.
Twisted Sister is my all-time favorite band. I'm more than a little pleased that you're checking out something other than their big two, "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It". This is one of their most emotional tracks. To me, it describes the price we pay to be ourselves; especially when ourselves are outside the norms dictated by society. Dee Snider is without a doubt one of the most outstanding singers and lyricists of all time. And he's wickedly intelligent, as well. He took on a Congressional inquiry, and made them all look like FOOLS.
Mötley Crüe actually has two or three ballads. Home Sweet Home, Without You, You’re All I Need (a ballad but it’s very dark), Glitter… there aren’t many, but there are some.
I saw them twice...in Berdoo on my 22nd B-day (I think they made a video of that concert) and again in San Fran with Y&T and Lita. Had some good B-day concerts with Twisted Sister in '84 and the '83 US Festival the year prior...on my 21st.
All right my babies.... I remember when I first heard the song on a cassette tape through my Sony Walkman. I've cried several times... Wondering if I was going to make it through life.... And here I am ready to take on 2023 with the Rob Squad family, of course ‼️🔥💯🔥🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Wow.....what a day. Uncle Toms' Cabin AND The Price back to back.A couple of tasty offerings from the 80's. Their album and song Stay Hungry are both bangers and on the repeat play list. For over 30 years now. The Beast,S.M.F, Don't Let Me Down and Horror-Teria keep you going.

""We're Not gonna Take It". "Under the Blade" " You Can't Stop Rick 'n' Roll" some rocking choices for Twisted Sister
I love rock ballads🎸🥁 the guitar can make you feel the pain and struggles just as much as the vocals!
I love Twisted Sister I got to meet Dee Snider (the lead singer) a couple of years ago. one of the best days of my life.
Definitely a talented band. More than just the makeup and hair from the 80’s.
These guys were something else, you must definitely hear, We're not gonna take it
It's a rocker!
Motley Crue has THE ballad that started the 80’s power ballad craze. Home Sweet Home. After that, every hard rock band was required to have at least one ballad on every record.
Awe such good memories are attached to this song. The hair was big, the pants were tight and music was epic.
The singer's name is Dee Snyder. He's pretty famous across several music genres. And he's actually a very good guy.
Dee is the man! Really awesome guy 😎
Can you guys pretty please do the extended official video for We're Not Gonna Take It? It is absolutely hilarious - and Dee Snyder is a BEAST. One of the BEST videos of the 80's.
Do "Come Out and Play" by Twisted Sister. That's an awesome rock song!
Twisted Sister " You can't stop rock and roll"
The opening line sets it up. "How long I have wanted this dream to come true". Being a rock Star. The price is what they have to do to get there. Dee Snider the lead singer had small children and they made it and where on the road away from family. The Price.
You can’t stop rock n roll his their coolest hard rocker with video.
Try “Come Again” by Damn Yankees. Not a ballad! Also “ Whipping Post” by Allman Brothers.❤️
One more
Twisted Sister - "Oh Come All Ye Faithful"
Tis the season
Grew up in Newburgh NY and in 1980-82 used to go see Twisted Sister in the area Rock Bars before they really made it.
Definitely my favorite TS song and also Dee Snider had some great 80s’ hair!! Although Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe has my all time favorite hair from the era!! Lots of rockers tried to mimic his hair and style!!! 🤟🏽🤟🏽
Dee's power vocals and range is incredible on this song!
Yes yes yes!! Love this song…such a rarely played song amongst there others! Thank you!!
Motley Crue ballad, Home Sweet Home. It starts with piano, ends as a rocker, really great solo.
Motley Crue - Home Sweet Home........the number one ballad of all the 80's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TS was my jam back in the day. they actually helped me to start standing up for myself.
I was a kid in the 80’s and still only know two songs by twisted sister. We’re not gonna take it and I wanna rock lol
Far and away my favorite from them!
Love this song! We used The Price as a theme song for our high school football team in 1988. Also Quite Riot Winner Takes All.
