Mortal Kombat is an American series of martial arts action films based on the fighting video game series of the same name by Midway Games. The first film was produced by Lawrence Kasanoff’s Threshold Entertainment. The first film, Mortal Kombat, was released in 1995 and its sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, was released in 1997. After the two films, game publisher Midway filed for bankruptcy. Warner Bros., having become the parent of New Line Cinema in 2008 (after over a decade of both operating as separate divisions of Time Warner), made a bid to purchase most of Midway's assets, including Mortal Kombat. In June 2009, Kasanoff and Threshold sued in bankruptcy court, arguing that they owned the copyright to many of the characters from the series.
On July 1, 2009, the bankruptcy court approved the sale of most of Midway's assets to Warner Bros. subject to the intellectual property claims of Threshold Entertainment. After years of development hell, a reboot of the series was released in April 2021.

I don't know about the Johnny Cage casting, i like Urban but i don't see it. Glen Powell would have been a better choice.
The first one sucked ass. Adding that extra character who never existed in the game was fukn stupid. And the director saying before that 1st one released that it had the greatest martial arts scenes in movie history....not even close. I have very low expectations for the 2nd movie.

New characters like Cole should be side characters at best, Cage, and Liu Kang are the best.
They shouldn't have made it about Cole for one, two everyone doesn't know is MK is mainly based on Kungfu styles except scorpion, Cole was MMA and he was low key garbage, everyone else was Kool and MK is supposed to be about Liu Kang otherwise I was cool with the fight scenes
Mk 2 can be a jaw breaking cinematic treat all its wants, but if you can't get the choreography right, meaning if you can't let the scenes breathe as the action is taking place, and not cut right when a critical hit is executed then the movie; to us Hardcore martial arts/ Hong Kong fans. Is literally a bust. Good reference would be Wheels on meals the end fight with Chan vs Benny, Pedicab Driver { All fight scenes} But the absolute best are Sammo vs Kwa- Lam and the end fight. And if the want to go brutal but still have the scenes bleed through with exceptional Choreography- Scott Adkin Undisputed series mainly 2-4.

Cole is literally a nobody in the mk world. Idky studios have to add their own flare cause the dragon tattoo and the arcana’s and Cole as a whole didn’t need to be in it. They could have used that time to explain way better things. Visually this movie looked great but the story was awful. Raiden was awful. I been a mk fan since day 1. This ain’t it and I hope the next movie fixes things big if Cole is in it I will not be wasting my money it as his character wat utter and complete garbage and anyone who says they liked his story arch are invalid including your entire little group. Now maybe YOU can tell me what was so great about this movie in your opinion? Oh and they really made subzero kill scorpions fam when it was quan chi cause he had the scar from the 1st fight. Lots of mess ups.
Urban was Cupid in 90s Hercules and was hilarious. He can do Cage

As much as I like 52 year old Karl Urban but he’s a little too old for the character. Scott Adkins would have been a better choice. Plus why are they side lining Liu Kang again? 🤦🏻♂️

The only thing the reboot did good was the fatalities, other than that, the reboot was just garbage, I doubt the sequel will be any better!

@@dakentaijutsu2010 duh. Because it did SEVERAL things well not just fatalities. The fight sequences were bad ass. The casting was on point. The cgi was great and the storyline was perfect.. we’ve already seen a tournament styled movie so why do that again? Intercepting the earth realm warriors to try and stave off the tournament was brilliant. Going back to the casting, they got ACTUAL martial artists to star in the movie, Shang Tsung was bad ass, Kung Lao and Liu Kang were perfect, getting a new character like Cole Young is genius. The pacing of the action was great. The villains were dope as hell. The scenery and setting was dope as hell. I don’t know how you can miss all of that.

You can't just blindly feature Bi-Han's first generation Sub-Zero and dismiss him as a villain. This is because the 2nd generation Sub-Zero Kuai Liang is the true 2nd generation Sub-Zero warrior Kuai Liang. Ordinary Mortal Kombat gamers will be very puzzled and disappointed that Kuai Liang-Sub-Zero does not appear. Or, they will imprint and criticize it as a ridiculous and nonsensical story.
Many Mortal Kombat Sub-Zero fans already know the original story of the game, but those who would like a story that just continues ignorantly with a clumsy film company setting that treats the good guys as villains and the bad guys as good guys, or the main character and double roles that omitted the setting due to the director's poor thinking, Not at all. Come to your senses. 2nd generation Sub-Zero - Kuai Liang is a warrior and must appear. Mortal Kombat - Why did Kuai Liang appear in the 1997 movie (Annihilation)?
There are not many fans who like the uncool Liu Kang character. Because he looks like Bruce Lee. Shut up and don't shake your mouth. This is because there are a lot more male fans who like the cool ice ninja Sub-Zero. Mortal Kombat without Kuai Liang - how boring would the movie be?? Yoshi-Sudarso is already on the Kwai Liang casting list. The key is, I just hope it comes out in Mortal Kombat Movie-2 (2025). I agree. Sub-Zero fans can't help but be desperate.
