Been traveling all around Colombia since 2016 and always felt safe in Cali and obviously blend in better there too. Always had a great time in Granada and San fernando and other places. No issues and people are pretty cool in Cali than Medellin. Plus Cali has better looking chics than Medellin. As a black man, no issues and if you have hieght and size, you will get alot of looks but no one will mess with you unless you go out looking for it.
Ive always predominantly gone to Cali mainly because my boy out there is Caleño and lives there so he holds me down and in a foreign country where you don't speak the language its key to have someone you know out there. But he's told me exactly what you have. Cali has more overall crime but because it's not a tourist hotspot they don't know the exact areas to target foreigners like in Medellin. As a foreigner I also appreciated not having a seperate gringo menu in Cali where the prices were inflated 😂.
I've been to Colombia multiple times for months at a time. have friends that live in Cali, Medellin, Barranquilla and I've always heard Cali is more dangerous. Spent a couple weeks there and was bored lol.. Like you don't care for Salsa lol.. Medellin was amazing to me and love the weather warm during day cold at night. Barranquilla I like too but it's hot hot lol nice beaches though. Santa Marta nice too. I've never had any problems with safety but have seen and heard a lot of stuff. Like you say when it's your time it's your time... Keep spreading truth brother. Respect
That's definitely one of the safest pockets in Colombia forsure. I lived in Valle Del Lili, interesting enough though the guards told me people walking their dogs were getting robbed every other day. And we even caught a guy who stabbed and woman one time and the whole community were going to kill the guy basically until some woman came shooting a gun and saved him. Overall though it's an extremely pleasant area especially Ciudad Jardin / Cañas Gordas, I would love there agian no doubt
There are a bit different dynamics, Medellín has very organized illegality, hence it seems safer but perhaps it is not. In both cities you have to know how to behave .... How are you doing a weapon being a foreigner? Any special permit?
I agree brother, basically the only way is to be a resident and get hired as an escolta and they have weapons with permissions that they assign to employees, overall not really worth it big hassle just happened to fall into my lap the opportunity with a friend that was already working with a company

I have no experience in Barranquilla and only done 1 week trips to cartagena I can say that within the tourist friendly areas (centro histórico and boca grande) cartagena is very safe, outside it seems to be a bit hectic
I’ve been to Cartagena twice this year I love it. It’s really safe in the tourist areas. I ventured off to the hood a little bit going to a girlfriends houses it was all good for me, maybe because I’m black and I blended in but I didn’t draw any attention to me and I showed respect. In two different hoods.
Hey bro overall Medellin is a better city but I choose Cali because it wins for a few categories driving/open space, less foreigners, culture (salsa, traditional, afro) - medellin wins for reggeaton, and more diversity of sub cultures. Vibe is very good and different in both, Medellin is prob better as a first city until someone gets acostummed to Colombia
I have heard for a long time that Envigado is very safe because The Office (La Terraza) runs the Medellin suburb. You commit a crime and you are dead the next day. That said, I have lived in Rionegro for a long time now. So I don't actually have physical proof.

Estuve en Bucaramanga el mes pasado, dos semanas. Es una ciudad intermedia, muy bonita y es limpia, organizada. Pero, en mi opinión, es aburrida comparada con Medellin y Cali. Y de acuerdo a UNDP(instituto OFICIAL que mide la calidad de vida) solo es .75 mas alto que Cali y .25 mas que Medallo, osea, es una ciudad para alguien tranquilo, que no le guste mucho la bulla y la algarabia. De allá era mi abuelo, asi q soy 25% bumanguez, y tengo familiares allá, por eso voy de vez en cuando.

I was extremely disciplined for most the time in Colombia, just a humble life gym food home. That's an easy solution though I agree
