  • Welcome to the salsa capital of the world! The city of Cali has a reputation for primarily the following two things: (1) as a cultural hub for salsa dancing and (2) as a city riddled with high-crime from a legacy of civil wars and narco drug trafficking. Cali is not a mainstream tourist destination, BUT it is easily our favorite city in Colombia. Over the next few videos, starting with this one, we will be sharing how cool Cali is, but also… is it safe?

Cali is a vibrant city, very authentic, unique, that is not a copy of any other place in the world. Where dance and rumba are part of the DNA of the people of Cali.

That was cool seeing the old photo with Rubén Blades in the center. I had the pleasure of being invited by a Barranquillera friend to see his concert at Estadio Romelio Martinez last year.

Wow great video. Didn’t know that Cali had so much salsa or why they dance differently. I'm from New York. Glad you said it was one of the homes of salsa. Don’t know if you were aware but the salsa music that went international started because the NY Latin population played here trying to follow swing or big bands of the African Americans but they got booed off the stage because people felt the music sounded simple and country due to their instruments. They practiced playing instruments like the trumpet and trombone added it to the music and that went viral which spread all over New York and then the world. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I’ll have to visit Cali. 👍

Glad you are showing the true spirit and vibes of Cali.
