  • In this video I'm sharing how thrifting is becoming expensive. With the rise in economy I'm noticing the prices in thrift stores rising too. There are still some bargains but far and few in between.

I totally agree. Went thrifting (so I thought) and couldn’t believe the prices. It was disappointing but I am not discouraged. You found good items. TFS.

In NYC the thrifting ship sailed about 20 years ago! It has become trendy to shop in Goodwill, Salvation Army, second hand stores and consignment shops as people of every demographic who can well afford to buy retail, become aware of the impact that fast fashion and throw away furniture have on the environment. Items are priced for what the market will bare. I do better now going to yard sales and checking for items listed online as free. You still manage to find treasures with your discerning eye for design!

Jamala, I definitely agree with you one hundred percent on that assessment! I pretty much have stopped going to Goodwill & Salvation Army because it seemed like after the pandemic, everything in the store pretty much had gone up in prices for no reason at all!!!

After watching several of your videos recently, I decided to venture out to my local Goodwill. Boy was I shocked as well as disappointed at the price increases. As you said, not much different than those at the discount retail stores.. I guess I just have to become more discriminating as well as putting my “Super Bargain Hunter” goggles on and just look harder, lol!😅.
    Love your channel, Keep’em coming!

I totally agree, especially after the pandemic it’s like they trying to make up for money they lost during that time or they just plain greedy because they get the items for free so they gonna make a profit no matter what, but they still raise the prices🤷🏽‍♀️ Plus, the tree and now is a well curated home. With old items and new items We have to be just more selective the Retail stores Clarence prices are sometimes cheaper than your stores so we have to be more selective and make additional good purchases🫶🏽👋🏽

Me again! I wanted to add that perhaps the popularity of Grand Millennial and Granny Chic decor have influenced thrift store pricing. Aficionados of Mid Century and minimalist design wouldn't get caught with a crystal ashtray or gilded picture frame. However, carefully placed knick knacks and the eye candy often found in thrift stores, are the finishing touches for the style that is trending now.

I think it depends on the type of thrift stores that you go to. Some of them are getting things from estate sales and trying to get as much money as possible. The typical Goodwill or Salvation Army prices are fairly normal, I think.

I've read that prices are increasing because more and more people are thrifting. But who knows?
