Just a note: Aisling slam has been changed to remove a mod and add a new veiled mod. It changes the crafting side of things but the profitability of going for Aisling is still the same!
im new, just wondering you said you can sell what you get from aisling being in research for 4 to 5 exalts, what are you selling exactly thats worth that much
As he shows in the end there is a craft table in the "reward rooms" for the people on the map. You can use those to craft stuff onto your items and then sell the item? Correct me if i am wrong there :D
Your content is insane man, thank you for all the time and effort that went into this, with content creators like you nobody can complain about the game being too complicated, your channel has literally everything you need to know about Path of Exile and the quality is top notch.
I came here to say this same thing, so thank you Stephen Chi for reading my mind 1 year in the past, lol! Thank you Subtracem! Your videos have improved my PoE experience multiple orders of magnitude!!
I know this is a year old but it truly helped me seeing someone do one from start to finish. Easily the best betrayal video I watched for someone who hasn’t played since 2020. Loved it.
I may be a bit late to this video, but i just wanted to say, after sitting down and watch the whole this through, I not only managed to get my board set up in about 15 maps, but also killed Catarina for the first time. This video was a massive help to me, the boss fight explanation was great and I finally knew what was happening and when (and yes I did die a few times, but she's still dead). This for me is the gold standard for an older expansion guide! ty, ty, ty

Hi Subtractem, love your content, your presentation is always so enjoyable to watch. Just a few corrections regarding your video: It that fled at 3 stars will give 2 pure breach stones, doubling the reward of two stars. He doesn't need to be captain of the safehouse for this to occur. As for waiting for people to show up, i don't think that's necessary, i pretty much one shot everything and a second portal will always turn up straight away if people are going to be joining. This is the priority of those who want to run a slightly optimized strategy: 1. Aisling (3 star in R) - 4-5ex on TFT 2. It that fled (3 star in R) - 2 pure breachstones = 2ex profit 3. Tora (3 star in I) - 1 winged + 1 gilded + 1 polished harbinger scarab = 130c 4. Hillock (3 star in T/F/R) - 1ex on TFT 5. Leo (3 star in R) - Gives you 2 slams, 40-50c per slam on TFT 6. Vorici (3 star in R) - 40 per white socket on TFT Optional strategy to consider if it is easily attainable: 1. Catarina clicks can be sold for 50-60c per click on TFT depending on how strong you are 2. Captain of safehouses can also be sold for about 1ex each on TFT as they are one of the achievements this league
That's interesting, I didn't know they made that change to ITF. I do know that you used to have to make it the safehouse leader for two attempts in the past. Someone was telling me on stream a few days ago that you can just instant attack and kill the members and they'll all spawn but I haven't tried it. I wonder if it's always been like that or if it was changed later. I'll have to test it! Thank you!
@@subtractem Thanks for the reply, i always try to get people to 3 star without being the safehouse leader. I did have a question regarding optimizing strategy and wanted to hear your opinion. Lets say you just killed catarina and the board has reseted. Lets say i have accumulated enough exp on 2-3 safe houses to run them immediately with no one revealed yet. What is the optimal strategy to do this? I find that if you just run 3 of them (don't run 4 as the 4th one will kick one leader out of the jail and I've learnt this the hard way a few times), there's a risk of someone like aisling, ITF or Tora becoming a safehouse leader in a safe house that you don't want, which will make moving them a much longer process. What i am doing at the moment, is to run a couple to reveal a few people then start running the safe houses in between and i make sure that if aisling is in transportation for instance, i wll make sure there's at least 2 others with her so the chance of her becoming leader is reduced. Do you have any suggestions on a better strategy?

I could have subscribed not long after starting to watch this video, but it was the points you were making at time index 44:13 - 46:00 that inspired me to click "subscribe right then. You have a great way of breaking down your reasons, and though I haven't even watched the remaining part of the video yet where you are going to demonstrate why you make certain choices, I can already tell this is going to be a massively helpful video (the first 45 mins was also helpful!). I look forward to checking out the rest of your content, but this was the FIRST video I landed on from you. What an auspicious start!
On leaguestart you should try and keep elreon as low rank as possible for a higher chance of him appearing in map to drop his jewellery. You need those to unveil the -mana cost crafts and if you have that craft, his rings also sell for quite a good amount of chaos (only veiled) early.
11:38 I thought so. Interrogate = Remove Stars. Execute = Gain Stars. Bargain/Betray = Ignore. Release = No Changes. (31:00 Leveling Strat) 50:00 Lightbulb went off when you said Aisling might not be on the board yet so better to just Bargain. Love how you know your cam is in the way so you drew on top with paint ahahah. Thanks for the guide, very helpful, will reference while practicing.
I really love your content. Im obsessed with Path of Exile but most other streamers post content with the idea that people watching know a lot about the game. Glad I stumbled upon you and your my new favorite PoE content creator.
This is so good! I’ve run quite a bit of betrayal for a couple of leagues now, and I’ve been struggling a bit with the finer details of moving members where I want. This vid has been so helpful, “nature abodes a vacuum” for the win!
I understood the concept but never was able to understand HOW to actually move them around the board. Thanks for actually going into the game and actually showing it in practice. I really enjoyed this video and wish I found it earlier. Thanks!
I was today years old when I realized the Mission encounters are directly related to the investigation and who was where. Never really understood Betrayal, this helped so much. Great work.
I already thought Subtractem was great, but then I learn he's a DotA player too :) Also Harbinger scarabs go for quite a bit, with Winged are nearly 1 ex each (90-100c?). Even if you don't sell them, you're already playing Valdo's Rest so you can swap back and forth between Jun and Juiced Valdo's to mix it up :D
Slark and Invoker main here :) Tora in Intervention for Harbi scarabs are definitely great! I may have over-exaggerated things with my tier list but I wanted to really hammer home that starting with a simple strategy is a great way to learn.
You teached me so much more, than the other guys within their whole content. At the end of this vid, i can say: Finally i understood Betrayal! Thanks so much. Liked & subscribed!
It's 2023, and this video is still sooo useful. I'm new to the game and just encountered the Immortal Syndicate for the first time, and your video guide is an absolute lifesaver.
A little late to the party here, but this video was exceptionally helpful. I find your teaching style fits my learning style very well and Im grateful for the long form content. When it comes to PoE content, especially the bigger league mechanics, there is so much complexity and depth. Appreciate your work!
Exactly the same for me. Everyone else explains things as if they are talking to a bunch of PhD students. But he talks like he's talking to a bunch of 5 year olds. Which is what I need😂
I really love the approach of practicing curiosity and a humble mind when considering "why did someone more informed make the decision?" That plus a Monty Hall Problem reference is a sub for me, ha.
You are amazing. You take this game to a whole new level, aka research-level now. I think I was listening to a professor talking in research institute and I was the pupil studying PhD lmao.
I feel like I'm finally starting to understand some mechanics that I've never tried before thanks to you, so thank you so much for these very informative videos!
Thank you for making this great instructional video. The other thing is... thank you for making it as long as it needed to be to completely and thoroughly convey your thoughts and instructions! Too many content creators making short videos because they think this is a prevailing metric youtube displays as to what people want...not true! Most subscribers don't care. We want as long as it needs to be. If it's too long we will come back and finish it later if we can't watch it one sitting. Rushed content is terrible to watch imo, so thank you for not doing that. :)
This is excellent, a great walkthrough of how to learn the mechanic. After focusing on getting one syndicate member to max and understanding that, it feels like it's easier to target farm other specific things. For example, I love blight so getting blight scarabs is a good secondary goal with my syndicates.
Thanks for the info Sub. I've always been a bit meh towards Betrayal. If they end up in a map, I'll do it, but other than that, never really gone out of my way to get them done. After seeing this, i might just try in 3.15 assuming nothing major changes.
This video is a perfect breakdown for what most 'casual' power gamers want to understand, want to know. Figuring out the big value and how to maximize that while they play the game for 'fun'. I may not farm Betrayal specifically but I'm now armed to ensure that when I interact with Betrayal I don't feel lost. Knowing the simple mechanics and what's valuable lets me cut through the chaff. Thanks, Sub!
Hello, like the other comments have said, thank you for the the extremely helpful guide. You've definitely got a gift for teaching, that raw Catarina run from scratch was a brilliant idea! Managed a T4 Aisling + Vorici + Tora in Research and Hillock in Transportation today, feels like I'm getting somewhere 😅
Incredible video, thanks so much! I've tried looking at guides and most people just explain the basic rules of the mechanic. What I need is someone to explain 1) why should I do this at all and 2) how do I evaluate the possible options so I can make decisions quickly without my head exploding, and that's exactly what you've provided!
as soon as i grok them? you're full of surprises, Mr. Subtractem, i like you, not-a-cockroach Lol :D thanks for another video which i'm just beginning to watch. this league, 3.17 opened up so much content in poe to me, that i had to find some solid educator and i found you. after crafting for newbies i know what to expect here, and now i'm gonna dive in fully. now. thank you!
As a PGD myself, I already had a strategy dialed in from previous leagues. But the change to Aisling completely changes the strategy and actually makes Betrayal MUCH easier. Thanks so much for pointing this out. I did like the strategy of cycling ITF and one other (Tora, Leo, Vorici) in Research but it was a lot tougher to setup than just moving Aisling into R and then 3* and run MM. I hope this strat sticks around for next league.
Thanks. As a returning player from before Betrayal, I found that Syndicate encounters were absolutely the WORST explained legacy mechanic in the game, and unlike the others you don't eventually understand it just by playing it. None of the terms or their possible outcomes (intelligence, rivalries, interrogation, etc) are ever explicitly explained. I was just killing off members without ever doing the safehouse because I didn't know what that was.
To anybody coming here after March 2024, be aware that while the mechanics are the same, the drops and best masters for betrayal and completely changed
@@subtractem will do! Too bad Aisling got nerfed, but I still want the cane. Starting a minion build (possibly try reaper, can always default back to basic minions). Hopefully farm a good cane with chaos/chaos multi for a death's oath char, and use the new forbidden right skill for single target since I'll already have max chaos res. I think that'll combo well together. Time will tell... GL for the new league
The one thing I didn't know and makes the mechanic all make sense....I didn't realize that removing their stars allows them to be moved....things will be much easier now. Thank you.
Once again, thank you. You helped me a lot. From "wtf is happening" to "oh" in 1 hour. The video It's kinda outdated but the core of the league mechanic stills the same, the only thing that could be nice to add is the atlas tree so you can sustain Jun's missions and do it more effectively. Over all, you gave me the confidence of knowing what to do which i really appreciate over everything else in PoE
I love the format and I am a huge fan of your content. There are a lot of little gaps in information that content creators expect viewers to know, which often leads to frustration. This video, although long, eliminates so many of those nuances with Betrayal. Greatly appreciated from another Dad Gamer. Quick question though, how do you actually sell the Aisling’s veiled modifier? I don’t understand the process i.e. do you spam chat, go to a specific website, take money up front to avoid getting scammed etc.
Thank you! The way you sell it is through The Forbidden Trove: forbiddentrove.com/ How to use it would take a full video itself probably, but feel free to join the Discord and ask questions for help!
Insanely good guide. Me snd my friend are lvl 96 and we haven't done any betryal at all but we decided to watch this guide and almost has a mastermind available with aisling rank 3 in a few hours
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Requires a "master" degree to understand Betrayal, but holy shit this is like the doorway to understanding Quantum Mechanics. I read many guides but have vague idea so never care about Jun missions, even though this league everyone basically just did Aisling. The demo tutorial style really helps. One thing I would like to point out is that in your lecture part, you stressed that INTERROGATE and EXECUTE are the most important but in the demo (map), you actually selected a lot of BARGAIN, so perhaps BARGAIN is also important? Anyway, chances are Aisling will be nerfed next league.
I should have gone into a bit more detail about it but Bargain is usually just what you take when the "good" options aren't available (which will be the case when it's the last available member. Cheers!
Thank you so much man! Oh my god, so many videos and this is the best one... you cant learn all of this in like 8min videos, i got a beer, some chips and watched it all xd
Way late here but I'll chime in. Longer videos are great. If I don't have time to watch it all at once, that's on me. But I prefer longer videos with lots of explanation and examples versus 10 minute mcsessions where it's assumed we already know a lot. Great content here.
Great video, still learning the mechanic. For those who are intimidated by betrayal, you can get quite a benefit from just doing betrayal fights in maps and unveil from jun, ignoring the rest of the mechanics. Unveiling will unlock new crafting recipes, which can be extremely helpful. Obviously, that won't maximize rewards, but it will be much better than just ignoring it.
This video just improved my strategy by a lot. My tier list pretty much looked like yours, but I love your approach to getting the right people/person in the right area quicker. I also spent too much time getting a relevant person in leadership for the double bench (Mostly IT that fled) and it seems with this strat its probably just quicker to hit Catarina more often instead.. On a side note. (Referring to 49:10 of the video). I'm pretty sure that Research and Intervention always "proc" and there is a 50/50 split between Transport and Fortification for the third.
3.17 here, but still: even though it's very long, it's very good and detailed - to fully understand the basics and some tipps and tricks this vid helps A LOT. Even though i'm quite familiar with Betrayel i still learned a thing or two. I really like Betrayel Content, but there are few downsides you have to consider: 1) u have to learn not only the mechanics that are not that complicated once u understand the basics, but you also have to learn how to deal/sell with/on TFT Discord. As you mentioned this is the only way, at least as far as i know, how to make currency out of this mechanic (except for crafting yourself and selling the stuff). 2) if you don't do a "Reserved"-Sell, there has to be ppl online on that time you killed Catharina, since you can't "store" those safehouse options - you have to sell it right away and thus have to search for ppl who are willing to pay. Maybe there is a trade-chat-channel in POE dedicated for Betrayel Stuff, i don't know - i always sell those on TFT. And one of the problems with TFT selling is, you have to level up your "trust-ranking", otherwise ppl will hesitate to pay a not-yet-trusted member some exalts or trading their items with you... So u either have to set low prices to attract buyers or wait longer. 3) Make sure u have a build that can quite easy kill catharina or at least be sure not to die, 'cuz u will lose a portal and you need portals for selling the betrayel mechanic stuff like Aisling's Veil Option. If you just sell Aisling one portal is enough, but if you also sell Vorici (white sockets), Leo (exalt slam), Hillock (Quality Craft) and Tora (GEM XP) u need more portals left (that's quite min-max-version, i know, but still).
That's a good point! In that case your focus should likely be scarabs. These all come from Intervention. It can vary based on the league so check poe.ninja for latest prices. Recently Harbinger (Tora) and Legion (Vagan) have been very strong!
With the new Atlas passive tree in 3.17, we get the "effective leader" passive that guarantees the leader to show up. Will that affect the current strategy for Betrayal now? You know what, I love this video, you should probably make another video demonstrating how we can utilize the new atlas tree to run Betrayal. Don't have to go through all the nitty details here, just need to address the new changes.
It does! I firmly believe crafting with Aisling will be very similar now, it just wont be used for the final mod. It respects metamods so we just use prefix/suffix cannot be changed first and it's a 50/50. I really think Aisling slams will still be 2-4ex next league.
Thank you very much, i think i understand this mechanic for the first time now! You said that you removed the crafted modifiers from your boots. How did you do that? Is that an option which the syndicate crafting bench itself offers?
excellent content (like always) ! From what I understood, the cherry on the cake is the Betrayal-board showing Aisling with level 4 and then running Research in order to get her craft, right? Or was this the craft after killing caterina the first time? I am confused.
Very much! Market is slow currently but I sold a ton of these at 4ex this league. It's really only half a nerf since now you can craft to block on unveil.
Dumb question, but how exactly do you sell the Aisling reward? Go on the TFT Discord, advertise, and invite them to your party after Catarina is dead? Not sure what the protocol is here.
Basically as you described. They trust trade you the item, you use their item on the bench and trade it back to them with the new veiled affixes on it.
What is the difference between running Syndicate Mission on Yellow map VS RED MAPS? I cant kill them on research FAST enough so only on yellow MAPS T5-10 I can do Reseach misions succesufly.
Should be totally fine, I don't think there will be much of a difference. It's just going to be about your map pool versus the Jun missions that you have. Cheers!
I think the video is pretty good, but I'm surprised you didn't mention Foothills resetting. If you need to just burn turns in Syndicate (to make a Safehouse available again, or get intel from someone you jailed), you can just reset Foothills for Jun encounters instead of burning actual missions. Anything but intervention will show up as a tracked quest, so you can just reload from the waypoint until you see it. If you want the Intervention encounter, you can track the load time... although that can be inconsistent, because other mechanics that can appear (like Alva) will also cause increased load times.
Totally good strat to min max your missions! This isn't something that I usually do, if I really need to I'll run a white or yellow map to burn through it but foothills is good too if you're low! Cheers.
LOL, your definition of a straight line would fail every geometry test I ever took. Maybe you meant just follow the path through the safe-house. Also, your character seems strong, as a new player in SSF, I wish my character could even do the maps your doing :) Maybe I need to go play in standard.
Haha, in isometric we generally just say straight line to mean we don't take any side paths. Never thought of it that way! Standard is a great way to learn the game with no time contstraints!
@subtractem Is it still a good way to make currency? It look like Veiled Chaos Orb are worth about 10c each these days. Seem like alot of trouble to get those
Sometimes it's a way to game the system and get them to show up yeah, it's very unreliable though. Easiest way for them to show up is if they have a relationship with other members and they get pulled in that way.
Just a note: Aisling slam has been changed to remove a mod and add a new veiled mod. It changes the crafting side of things but the profitability of going for Aisling is still the same!
im new, just wondering you said you can sell what you get from aisling being in research for 4 to 5 exalts, what are you selling exactly thats worth that much
@@chasegimbel1904 the use of the slam itself. Currently worth 1-2ex but goes up as league goes on and market matures.

What a fantastic effort with the playthrough and pause and reflect idea. Kudos on excellent instruction!
Thank you!
@@1div2agent74 😂😂😂😂
I really love the approach of practicing curiosity and a humble mind when considering "why did someone more informed make the decision?" That plus a Monty Hall Problem reference is a sub for me, ha.
Great video! Especially the demo part in second half of the video cleared lot of doubts and explained some scenarios I never thought of.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Hey this video really helped! The full t4 Aisling + Catarina run made everything super clear. Thank you :)
As someone who just started playing the game, your videos are life-savers given the feature creep this game has.
This is excellent, a great walkthrough of how to learn the mechanic. After focusing on getting one syndicate member to max and understanding that, it feels like it's easier to target farm other specific things. For example, I love blight so getting blight scarabs is a good secondary goal with my syndicates.
That's so awesome! I'm glad it helped you :)
Thanks for the info Sub. I've always been a bit meh towards Betrayal. If they end up in a map, I'll do it, but other than that, never really gone out of my way to get them done. After seeing this, i might just try in 3.15 assuming nothing major changes.
Thanks Tranquil! Let me know if you give it a shot and if you have any questions.
Thank you so much!
I never really got into Betrayal but plan to use it in the coming league. Thanks for the vid, it helped me alot :)
Legit subbed for this - you are the best PoE Professor out there my man.
as soon as i grok them? you're full of surprises, Mr.
GGG rarely changes things back to back. Should be good to go!
Best boss fight breakdown of Cat I've seen so far. Got powned twice, and said "F-it" lol Going to give it another go next league. Cheers!
Thanks! Let me know how it goes next time you fight her. If you ever need help feel free to ask on stream any time. :)
Thank you.
Dude epic video. Thank you so much for all the work you put into this! Helped understand the whole thing after just ignoring it since release xD
Coming from 2023, this is amazing ty! I know there’s been atlas changes and more but this actually so helpful!!
Ah that's good to know! Always more to learn :) thank you!
Best Betrayal guide ever! Thanks a lot
3.17 here, but still:
even though it's very long, it's very good and detailed - to fully understand the basics and some tipps and tricks this vid helps A LOT. Even though i'm quite familiar with Betrayel i still learned a thing or two. I really like Betrayel Content, but there are few downsides you have to consider:
1) u have to learn not only the mechanics that are not that complicated once u understand the basics, but you also have to learn how to deal/sell with/on TFT Discord.
Thank you so much, i feel like i have at least an idea of what to do now :)
Thanks for this, hoping to finally do betrayal stuff in 3.16.
this channel is gold!!! no joke! best break down ever.
Best betrayal guide. I learned quite a few things
Love this content. Such a big help. Great work!
Great showcase of the mechanic, thank you!
I watched it till end and helped me understand it. Thanks!
You earned a subscriber here. nice video. Can you give a chart for the league start scenario, Aisling wont be valuable in the early weeks.
"The tier four Aisling crafting bench reward that adds a Veiled modifier now first removes a random modifier."
It does! I firmly believe crafting with Aisling will be very similar now, it just wont be used for the final mod. It respects metamods so we just use prefix/suffix cannot be changed first and it's a 50/50. I really think Aisling slams will still be 2-4ex next league.
I finally get it. I can finally finish my weapon in SSF. Thank you!
This guide is so good you could cut in the new Atlas passives stuff over the old Maven Atlas.
Ohhhhh so this is how it works 😂. I was just randomly clicking stuff when I found these. Good video
Came for the lesson, leaving with wisdom. Any chance I could find out what the build/mtx for that rainbow arrow explosion was?
ruclips.net/video/Sq81p6z0rHQ/видео.html Here ya go :)
Thank you very much, i think i understand this mechanic for the first time now!
You said that you removed the crafted modifiers from your boots. How did you do that? Is that an option which the syndicate crafting bench itself offers?
Starts at 4:47
I hope GGG eventually turns Aisling veiled mod slam into an itemized currency to trade like "Veiled Exalted Orb" or something like that.
That'd be great!
the best betrayal teacher in the yt ty :D
Man dude youre seriously the best poe youtuber
excellent content (like always) ! From what I understood, the cherry on the cake is the Betrayal-board showing Aisling with level 4 and then running Research in order to get her craft, right? Or was this the craft after killing caterina the first time? I am confused.
You just need her at level 3 and then running Catarina (do not run the safehouse) will make her Tier 4 for the veiled mod craft.
Been loving your channel, just finished this video. Do you think this is still worth it with the aisling nerf?
Very much! Market is slow currently but I sold a ton of these at 4ex this league. It's really only half a nerf since now you can craft to block on unveil.
@@subtractem you’re the best, thanks for the timely reply
Excellent content, dude; thank you.
Greetings, is using kalandra's craft prophecy still worth it using while fightning catarina to unlock her veiled mods or is there another way??
Yeah it's really good! Especially for Elreon rings.
@@ajufhngnfgbj Exactly! It's kind of a pain in the butt but it's all we have right now.
Cheers.
How did you get so many Jun runs in your map device? I only have 1-2 available. Is there any tip to get more?
“I like simplifying things” videos 1:30 long. My body is ready.
your content is goated man
Juicing the algorithm, thanks a lot. First league, and want to try this!
Seem like alot of trouble to get those
Hi subtractem. I know I'm a bit late, but how do I gather Jun missions? You seems to have quite a bit
Hey Kyle, combination of investigators titanium watch stones in valdos and using focused investigation maven passive in haewark Hamlet. Cheers!
Does the leader appear more often if there are no other members of that safehouse?
Sometimes it's a way to game the system and get them to show up yeah, it's very unreliable though. Easiest way for them to show up is if they have a relationship with other members and they get pulled in that way.
I still find it crazy to this day that our Masters betrayed us ;_;
