Man Bex was a real one. One of the best CMs I have ever seen in any game. Also, ward is completely insane, it is key to one of the best builds in the game in wardloop, but it's more used as a resoruce than defense.
She hasn't done anything in the last few years, absolutely zero interaction with the players. I was surprised when I found out that she was still working at GGG (when she announced her dismissal).
@@ЕгорКорин-ч2б Well yes she was promoted to the director of the department she was in instead of being a community manager/community support. Directors don't typically directly interact with the playerbase 24/7
Hey I just want to say i like coming back to this video every now and then. Its my favorite video about poe on YT. There are still A LOT of cultural and factoid tid-bits you can still make a part 2 on. I've recommended this video to a bunch of people I play poe with they all loved it! I just want you to know your work here is much beloved and appreciated mate :)
Sometimes I click out from subbed channel to main YT site .. and oh boy.. this was a good catch. Amazing video to hear while playing 3.22 :) It was so fun to ride that nostalgia train. Thank you for this.
I think it should also be said about harvest how over the top the crafting prices at the start were when they changed it to lifeforce that they had to reduce some to 10 % of the orginal cost.
Nice video, it seems like a lot of stuff covered is relatively new. Some deep cuts about the OG community members and events like the Charan debacle, kripp's priceless stash, Ruler of Wraeclast supporter pack, and the mors vs cybrix meltdown would be interesting.
I generally don't like iceberg videos for whatever reason, but this was really entertaining and interesting. I agree on the last fact - GGG must do something right with their vision/philosophy and the way they interact with us players. Why do I say that? This game is still around and going strong after ten years, having survived D3, several other hyped ARPGs andd it really looks like it will survive D4. Maybe even PoE2, who knows ;)
Rarity now effects: currency drops, unique drops (for example more headhunter if you have high item rarity and drop a leather belt), and divination cards (tiers).
I was so happy when I heard that PoE2 will be a separate game. It gave me a huge sigh of relief to know that GGG still could understand or realise that their audiences are so fragmented that merging PoE1 into 2 will be the worst thing that happens after OW2.
They're still sharing an end game. So I'm not sure how they're not going to be merged in some way. The atlas system is still supposed to be shared between them. How that might work, no idea.
Making third party tools for this game was truly fun because you had the power to add to the game. I realize now that this is similar to making mods. Of course, tools being outside the game is subpar experience, but that is the limitation with PoE. I've tried hard in the past to somehow streamline the trading experience, and minimize the actions you need to do when you trade, so you spend less time outside the game. In fact, most of the tools do this especially back when you had to maintain a forum post to sell your items (fun times actually, posts were creative in presenting the items)
So Alva is the Last to Die. It was confirmed on a panel at Exilecon (the lore panel I think). The streamer queue debacle was amazingly tonedeaf not only because they did it but it confirms intervention towards certain individuals which means "streamer luck" the manipulation of drop rates might also be possible. Lot of good content to update new players about the history of the game and the memes.
Nice video, regarding the exa / div swap, I would also add that the community figured out legion jewels at the time and divine are needed to reroll them. That was a hot topic
Genuinely liked the video, I listened to the whole thing while blasting maps, went from 37% to 89% at level 96 in ssf. One thing I was kind of hoping you would mention would be the level 100 fame. Either in the racing or the vision aspect as GGG has a fine stance on level 100 race as well as softcore death xp, nerfing xp strats, nerfing how much xp is needed multiple times since the very first level 100. Also, side note since I know it wasn't mentioned audibly no clue maybe you showed some footage but the old school events were super fun I loved the pvp events and I forget what it was called but it kind of reminded me of sanctum where you started a run got random generated loot and had to push as hard as you could before it reset and then the fastest time or furthest was the winner. I completely forget the nuisances I just remember vivid memories of hanging out in a teamspeak server, yeah that old... and having good laughs at everyone sharing the chaos of some of these old school racing events. These little innovated designs early on in the game cemented ggg as a developer for me and I've been playing every league for at least the first couple days (talismans was the first league I noped out of super quick) since warbands. And speaking of warbands the league mechanics used to be separate to hardcore/softcore ladder and then they are kind of doing similar redesign now with ruthless/base game having their own balance. Maybe we'll get ruthless league's but I doubt it lol.
I loved Kalandra and Expedition league. No matter the nerfs and the community outrage, I had some of my best builds and most enjoyable moments during those 2 leagues :)
I started poe about 2 years ago on Kalandra league. I went in blind and learned and built my own build and reached maps. When i saw the atlas skill tree, my mind was blown. You mean there is a skill tree to customize and get control over the rng nature of the content that pops up. That was exactly when the game was sold to me. Nowadays i don't play it much because of how much of a time sink the game is and I can't play so many timesinks while still holding a full time job and try to have a life. I would love to come back to play poe again though.
I haven't changed my hideout in years because I still got the old Navali npc in mine and I kinda don't want to delete her. You can't interact with her at all, but she's still standing there, watching me frantically run in and out of portals and vendoring items that are definetly worth selling :D
Path of exile was the first Argp that I played. I never played Diablo. I played StarCraft. The first I heard of Poe was in a game informer. I saw the passive tree and I knew it was the game for me. I looked it up and downloaded the game, that day.
Great video. This was awesome how it touched on basically all parts of PoE and its community. Only thing Im kinda bummed out about is that Empyrean was only mentioned for the bad thing he did (and the loot nerf part), and not like the insane memes he and his crew do. Like, to me what his crew (and of course other non-streamer juicer groups) do is kinda the peak PoE to me. The sheer min/maxed insanity allowed only by crazy knowledge of many complex systems is a highlight of how players will push everything to its limits. Love that stuff, so to see the insanity that is min/maxed juicer content not be mentioned almost at all makes me feel like its missing. Still tho. Loved how much work you put into this
The video is immensely good. Great respect for the effort!. GGG has listened to the community a lot, they don't have to listen to everything the community whines about because we will end up with WoW type of problem - a game made for p*ss*es. Great job on covering so much of the game. I only wish you included a segment about GGG rewriting the game to fix performance. Back in the day the game used to load for 10 minutes on pressing start in steam (literally, not an exaggeration, sometimes even longer). At some point when GGG landed on their feet financially they decided to do something about it (I believe we had only 3 acts at the time, maybe 4). Developers even made reddit threads to get feedback from different people with all kinds of hardware. It was at that point that we knew they were serious about getting things right. I'm one of many people who's spent a lot of money on the game. And not because I needed to, but because I wanted to support the game as much as I was able to afford. And I still don't regret a single cent spent in Path of Exile. Thank you Chris. Keep on following your vision. Sometimes it's shit, sometimes it's godlike. But Babies will always complain either way.
Oh, and another thing - in the early years of the game the community got a reputation of people who are generally more willing to help than to be toxic. As the game got more popular all kinds of people came around, but we still have some great players if you know where to look. I always try to help others and explain as much as I know. Recently I spent few hours helping out a 60 year old grandpa learn the game and I dare say he's better than many young people I've seen play the game.
Supposedly they will have a way to import and export passive skill trees. Thanks for making this by the way. Very cool and fleshes out the game with this added info.
Amazing Video! This was fun learning about the lore and the background of some of the items! I remember the loot nerf in Kalandra League vividly, did a lot of heist like many others. Never forget :) I recommended this to a friend that just started since Crucible League. Curious to hear his thoughts, must be mind blown with the amount of mechanics we've had in the game.
Great video, and I love the conclusion, because I'm totally in the same boat. I played Expedition, I played Kalandra, I had a blast, just like I do every other league. While I have had the most fun in Sentinel and TotA, I don't rush to any judgment, and trust the plans that GGG has for their game. Where a company like Blizzard has lost my trust, I do honestly believe that everyone working at GGG loves Path of Exile, plays it extensively, and wants it to be the best game in the world. And...it is. And even with the hiccups along the way, it is trending better and better as time goes on, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for PoE 1 & 2.
Maaan this video is Top-Notch! It reminded me with everything i came across in this game which made me on a high!! Almost 2hours video went like a blink of an eye. Well done ❤
I am personally a D4 guy ..but this game has always interested me and I only wish good things for PoE and PoE 2 but while I do not play it I really enjoy watching stuff about it lol
I agree with your take on the vision. I used to think an auction house was the answer. Now realize the cost associated with trading is mecessary and i exploit market inefficiencies to get ahead. One thing you missed is how they are stingy with loot. Each league the new mechanic is unrewarding. They let it play out for a few weeks and then buff it. Also how mechanics like crucible and scourge could actually make your item worse... I can't support that vision.
Great video, but you forgot about one thing, interesting aspect of the masters and i really loved if you pointed to it. Let me explain it here, back then when you had masters in your hideout and you could do their dailies where they open portals etc, you could ask their opinion over other masters, and as one of them who was a master for ranger class, i love you to go and check her dialogue. I'm not going to spoil it but i believe it was one of the best characterizes feature about those npc
I haven't watched all the way to the end -- but damn! The flex of beating the Maven during those conditions... Damn. You just punched me in some sensitive bits as I have still not even under good conditions beaten the Maven...
Great video, I have been playing Since PoE had the 3 difficulties. Buddy and me still joke about the Touch of God when you had to kill him 3 different times. Also I believe you forgot to mention the big Desync issues they had early on. This is what kept me away from the early leagues cause it had lots of rubberbanding with server code.
Yeah, I forgot about the server issues in the earlier years. There was a random chance when entering an instance that it would just kick me out. That and the rubberbanding at other times.
there was a guy who got lv100 in ssfhc with only the 4 default stash tabs. so it's possible to do alot of stuff without needing to buy a stash tab. it's definitely not pay-to-win. but it's so much quality of life
I started today (on Ps4 so no planning program sadly) but I actually came from Warhammer 40k Inquisitor and was looking for more ARPGs and the skill tree honestly excites me
1:26:00 A large benefit of the 3rd party tools is, I can have them on my 2nd monitor or just work with them without having to open the game or be held back by maintanence, etc. I dont see much profit in having an entire tool built into the game. Because at that point, ask yourself how many tabs and menus are you fine with having in your game until it is too much? Some people play PoE casually. They already have enough to worry about with the giant skill tree. Having a menu as complex as a plane cockpit may not be a wise addition to the game. And how would you even decide which tools to add? Maybe you only use a trade, build and sth else tool. But what about x or y or z? Would we ignore the people that want those tools, just beause the part of the community using it is small? This gets tricky to manage. I'd say some annoyances that every single player has to deal with would be better off solved in a different way. Most 3rd party tools are QoL workarounds. Being able to trade your currency automatically with other people, skipping the 1:1 interaction or sth sth sth would probably remove the need for many trade tools. What about builds? Why not have popular current and past lague build recommendations inside the game under a "community" tab? There you get recommended gems, tips as to what works with what and so on. That would also teach new players details like what is a spell, what is a "hit" what is a "over time" etc. It would be imo more profitable for everyone to have people become smarter over just following a build guide blindly, not knowing why it works.
Oh man, I remember ultimatum league launch, eventually the community figured out that as long as you didn't go to another zone, you wouldn't get disconnected. So I did any normal person would do and kept resetting the instance in where I was, that place being crystal mine. The whole time I was laughing because how bizarre it was to have something like that happen in a league launch As a result though I got PSTD every time I go to that zone
Honestly when I first tried Poe after finishing D4 I saw the skill tree and dipped instantly, then randomly saw a RF jug recommended video and thought it looked fun. I now have over 300 hours in this game Ik it isn’t anything but still glad I got back in
What is the song do you have playing in the background during the final segment of the video? I thoroughly enjoy the entire video, thank you for making this! It's very well-made
Very well done iceberg video, only played the game for a few hours with a friend of mine. But nonetheless it was fun learning about the stories surrounding the community and patches. Awesome vid
Speaking of reusing assets, one of the TOTA chieftains , namely Kahuturoa is using the same moveset as Blackjaw boss that killed Mark during poe2 presentation. Check for yourself if you dont belive me ;p
I was able to grind out a headhunter the league before they changed it. It's the single best item I've ever had in any game. It was hilarious how quickly it ramped up out of control. Its always one of the first things i mention to people when i tell them about the game.
I would like to clarify something about the chinese only features. The pet is 90 days, and yes, but as I remember it, linked to that league. So you better buy it on the first day. The quick market is a add on purchable feature for your stash tab. So not only do you need to upgrade your stash you also need to buy the feature for that stash. If I remember correctly, and I can't remember if it is was restricted to a single stash per account. I am sure it was not a default premium feature. And you could not prepare your own tree, if you could I never knew how to do so. You was given 4 options per class. Except scion, you were given 2. Where the last option is: I am making my own build. So it has gear guides and the now infamous tree guides that nobody understands how annoying and great it actually was, unless you have played with it. I heat too many people talking about the chinese version who have never played it. Hell i heard people translating lanmao (blue hair) (zizaren) into lazy cat. Yes it is prnounced the same, but the context is clear. He had blue hair. Why would they call him "lazy cat" -_- I am a freaking sinologist and phd in Path of exile. I am making my own builds, crafting my own items, and it is a lie that harvest is not the best for super end game gear, it still very much is. It is just prohibitly expensive so people don't factor it in. I am using fossils, beasts, harvest, ex slamming, essences, fraturing, and more to make my items. And people should really begin to notice how amazing crafting really is in poe. They do not hold your hand, but they do provide you with the tools for you to build your meme man. :-D
At first glance i thought it will be a roast/rant against ggg, judging by the title. I am SO glad i watched the video, because it was the opposite: An explanaition of what PoE was, is and may become. To answer a question towards viewers from the video: I would like less third-party liability. Currently i'm ok with the tools and still learn how to better use them, but as a new player i was just confused on why i had to use this and that tool, i only wanted to play 😅 In conclusion... yet to be formulated.

Man Bex was a real one. One of the best CMs I have ever seen in any game. Also, ward is completely insane, it is key to one of the best builds in the game in wardloop, but it's more used as a resoruce than defense.
Bex is now working for Riot in their recent announcement :3
She hasn't done anything in the last few years, absolutely zero interaction with the players. I was surprised when I found out that she was still working at GGG (when she announced her dismissal).
@@Kelenaeshe would fit right in considering how apathetic she is lol
42:00 Triskaidekaphobia. The 8 modifiers + 5 Delirium orbs for 100% delirious = 13. Another reason the creator wanted it.
Maybe even PoE2, who knows ;)
awesome video, really takes me back. hard to imagine "krangled" was 3 years ago, it feels like yesterday.
Love the segment about that particular streamer as I also don’t get the hype, gave me a good laugh. Awesome video!
Watched through the whole thing. Awesome work, my man.
Loved it!
I’m gonna need more snacks - this is great!
I would really like poe 2 being grim dawn pacing with poe 1 being the zoom-zoomy flood the screen bs one.
@@satibelit’s unlikely since POE 1 is already hitting every number cap because of the coding. Opposite is more realistic
@@3ace9 they said they want less stuff on screen in poe 2 so I don't think they'll do huge explosions.
3000 hours in the game and I learned so much about lore related dynamics of the game. Well panned out video!
Still tho. Loved how much work you put into this
The detail you put into this video is it's own skill tree. Thanks for that.
I didnt think there was any chance you had Brother Laz listed but there it was, great list!
The Divine Orb sound effect is perfect
Supposedly they will have a way to import and export passive skill trees. Thanks for making this by the way. Very cool and fleshes out the game with this added info.
After only a month, this has become my favorite game of all time
Amazing Video!
1st time seeing that skill tree is when I fell in love with this game... For me it was imaculately fun to see that monstrosity
Well done ❤
Wow, just wow! As a few seasons newbie I couldn't ask for better video😮
This is 100% accurate game review. Its more of a build simulator than an arpg. Building is everything, mechanics are kinda secondary.
This is so awesome! Made me nostalgic about some parts.
you did an amaaaazing job with this video; congrats and thank you!
14:01 those sound pack LMAO
This is my favorite thing. Thank you for making this!
really well done video. felt like a mini POE documentary
Very nicely done! And I love hearing some positivity in the PoE Community. Thank you for an exciting watch!
This was not a video, this was a feeling 🗿. Thanks for your effort.
I wish someone made a video like this about other games with rich history and community content, like WoW or Eve Online.
/oos macro ftw
Thanks for taking me 9n this journey.
there was a guy who got lv100 in ssfhc with only the 4 default stash tabs. so it's possible to do alot of stuff without needing to buy a stash tab. it's definitely not pay-to-win. but it's so much quality of life
59:16 - Iconic moment, as a fellow minion player I felt that in my bones
95% of this is surface
Didnt read the video description, just clicked play expecting some sort of sort of explanation about the Iceberg map and was quite confused XD
Man I love this vid. That last part was beautiful
Wow. So much info in this video. I still don't understand PoE but this was interesting and looks like you put a lot of work into this video. Nice job.
Bro u gotta play poe wyd bruh one of the best games ever made
Great work sir! Very fresh PoE content that isn’t a tutorial 😂
Fantastic video! I learned so much stuff and now, back to the game! Thank you
Oh man, I remember ultimatum league launch, eventually the community figured out that as long as you didn't go to another zone, you wouldn't get disconnected.
So I did any normal person would do and kept resetting the instance in where I was, that place being crystal mine.
The whole time I was laughing because how bizarre it was to have something like that happen in a league launch
As a result though I got PSTD every time I go to that zone
Am I missing something? Don't you have to enter a new zone to open the menu to reset the instance?
Honestly when I first tried Poe after finishing D4 I saw the skill tree and dipped instantly, then randomly saw a RF jug recommended video and thought it looked fun. I now have over 300 hours in this game Ik it isn’t anything but still glad I got back in
What an amazing video, enjoyed every second and was immersed till the end.
What is the song do you have playing in the background during the final segment of the video? I thoroughly enjoy the entire video, thank you for making this! It's very well-made
Okay, the FIRST song played during the final segment lol
Very well done iceberg video, only played the game for a few hours with a friend of mine. But nonetheless it was fun learning about the stories surrounding the community and patches. Awesome vid
Speaking of reusing assets, one of the TOTA chieftains , namely Kahuturoa is using the same moveset as Blackjaw boss that killed Mark during poe2 presentation. Check for yourself if you dont belive me ;p
Ultimatum is officially back! THIS IS A BUFF
I was able to grind out a headhunter the league before they changed it. It's the single best item I've ever had in any game. It was hilarious how quickly it ramped up out of control. Its always one of the first things i mention to people when i tell them about the game.
1:43:49 , Path of Exile Global does have an in game trade window, but it's only partially functional and only available to console players
Thank you so much for this Iceberg!
If you ever plan on doing a part 2 I would suggest looking into Memory Leak items that exist in standard.
great vid my dude, watched in one breath
Is there any chance of a public release of the Rosen filter?
I downloaded this game last weekend and im stunned. I mean im only just started act 5 but man this game is good.
Dude said never a boat league and it's biat leauge lol
Very good ending to the video and very well said brother. Good job.
Amazing work. I enjoyed every minutes of it.
Why would they call him "lazy cat" -_-
I am a freaking sinologist and phd in Path of exile.
To answer a question towards viewers from the video:
I would like less third-party liability. Currently i'm ok with the tools and still learn how to better use them, but as a new player i was just confused on why i had to use this and that tool, i only wanted to play 😅
In conclusion... yet to be formulated.
Very nice job! Thanks for all the work done on this video.
Just a correction- chris actually said the lines for bestiary were recorded before blizzcon and the einhar "do you not have nets" was a wild coincidence. Was in an interview during the league. Pretty damn funny though.
It was so funny to me back in Kalandra and the birth of The Vision(tm). Whenever peoiple got lucky, that was because, like other god-touched monsters, they were Vision-touched
Holy... the quin segment 🤣 ICLOWN'T 😂
Very fun and entertaining to listen to while gaming. Smooth 2h.
