Hey, I just wanted to drop in and say that I've been using this to catch me up because a friend bought me PoE2 early access and I wanted to have some idea what was going on, so this whole playlist was a lifesaver. Thanks a lot.
I cannot imagine the amount of work needed to put something like this together. Fantastic stuff. As a PoE noob who only recently shored up enough courage to dive into it, it's awesome to have an understanding of the immense amount of lore for the game. Definitely deserving of a sub. Thanks!
1:07 "...Penance Quay" Quay is pronounced "key". If it helps, the original spelling actually was key (until around 1690), before the French came along and muddled English even more than it was already. The word itself is so old (proto-celtic) that many European languages have "key" pronunciation forms in their own languages. Edit: I appears you became aware of the correct pronunciation, as it was done perfectly ~ 36:58 Thank you for these videos, I enjoy them very much.
I rarely leave comments on videos, but I've got to make a little push for the algorithm - all the videos you've made on the PoE lore are absolutely amazing, thanks for your work :)
I think you answered your own question on why Doedre was in the sewers, it connected to every part of the city. Honestly she comes off as a serial killer who just likes messing with magic to find more creative ways to kill people. I also think that's why maligaro turned on her, as crazy as all the thaumaturgic researchers were they all had some sort of end goal was just Doedre was just pure chaos and carnage
I rarely leave comments on videos 9 years i skippd all the lore lol and now the game got a new meaning.. all the videos you've made on the POE lore are absolutely amazing !! thank you
Monumental work and effort here. I had no idea PoE's lore was so deep and coherent. Thank you so much for creating this, may many blessings come your way.
It's actually worse than that. They were literal partners in crime and not only did she leave him, she intentionally bound him and told the authorities where to find him so he could be exiled. All in all that level of betrayal was probably worse than death.
Sorry for long response... but, long video, and love learning lore for every game I enjoy playing, so loved your videos! Looking forward to watching more of them. But, here are my thoughts on possible explanations for some things: What if Veruso had only banned the Virtue Gems (and possibly other things) only after he used the device and had his vision. Knowing how he tried to use the Ankh after she died... I could easily see that, while he told HER she was peaceful and in the wedding bed, he would then move to get rid of all the things he might view as part of the same 'concept' as that device- as an attempt to stave off and prevent what he saw in the vision. But, then, when the vision still comes to fruition, the pendulum in him swung all the way back, and he reached to the Ankh out of momentary insanity, desperation, and more. Possibly even realizing that it might have been his actions in banning that led to her death. As for Sin and Innocence... I don't really see them as Good and Evil, but more Law and Chaos. Mankind is not exceptionally obedient in real sense of things. We have far too many differences, diversities, ways of thinking, religions, and so much more. How to have a universal system for all of that? Also- not all of it is good, not all evil... some of both, 6 of one, etc. But, Innocence... there's a reason why the Templars are all for him. They seek to have the entire world living under one rule, following a single set of principles, etc. And, they don't really care what atrocities they inflict along the way. So, 'good'? I don't think so. Further, while Evil or Good really cannot exist without the other... existence would inevitably adjust and a replacement would be found. It's a morality. However, when 'Law' or 'Chaos' disappears? One of two things is almost immediate, with exceptionally little time to try and fix it. Either all of everything begins siezing and contracting into a 'harder than diamond' solidity, and all of everything living just lives every day the same, with no alteration; or, all of everything begins to fly apart in random and violent ways, with all of the living things most likely mutating in wild ways that might not even have a way of continuing to survive (like, can't breathe, blood turns to acid but no evolution to handle, etc). Law and Chaos aren't really moralities... they are universal elements that hold everything together while allowing for constant change. It would explain why the Mother had 2 children before living beings of any kind were created (aside from those 3 entities): because they were absolutely crucial to even the basic level of existance of the universe itself.
I would extrapolate and say that "Law" is actually just "Order" The fight between Order and Chaos. "Law" is actually Balance; to use your "good and evil" contrast; "Law" is what is accepted by society and/or tolerated for the sake of cohesion and balance. Somethings that are Moral are not always lawful; and somethings that are moral are not always legal, and something that are legal are not always moral. The reason all this happened is because there is no balance. Sin realized this; and, with the very BLATANT Abrahamic allegories as well as those of other creation "myths" (side note: as a returning-christian [for personal reasons] I refuse to call other religions "origin myths" "myths" because I feel there is some truth in understanding the God in all of them, which brings me to my analysis here 😅) Sought to create balance by ering on the side of keeping the other "gods" quiet in their meddling and allowing mortals to have their "free will" to include to almost destroying the world because Sin rightly excreted mortals to seek out the "beast" for power. Either through "the nightmare" or other means. Inadvertently giving magic to the world; which is the essence of "Chaos versus Order" and "Free Will". The "gods" that mettle in mortal affairs are dangerous and wanton; they have no sense or real benevolence and have done nothing but rule mortals with more of tyranny than anything benevolent. The most benevolent thing the "gods" did for mortals in this world was take a dang nap.
I was looking up the lore just because i was curious about PoE2, because of how big of a monolith it would be to get into PoE1. But i am intrigued at not only did the devs take inspiration from real-life for the lore; they tranformed it into this "what if eveyone existed on a giant super-continent and how would divergent evoltuion for societies." And its so cool looking at the Vaal and seeing the three major pyramid/ziggurats cultures that make them up is cool. I do think that if the Aztec culture had been in closer proximity to the "Old World" earlier in our history they would have been a big influence; even more so than today. The idea of "location flipping" for these civilizations that are fleshed out amazingly; is cool. Desert proto-japan/Han Dynasty china... but also slightly Ptolemaic, but like also not. Is cool.
If you don't clear the passage that piety closes to the weatern forest, is it closed in act 6? Never even thought of this, I don't know if I've ever skipped that quest.
Looking back at how the end game intro has changed. No more Zana, with the camp being there instead.. Do you plan to update that with the new lore bits or no?

What an amazing series this was, loved the lore of this game as a new player. Hope you’re well noodle!
Every character is basically a mass murderer but sin is beyond redemption cuz he stole a fish? Lol
yis

I appreciate how much effort and care you put into this video, thank you!
As someone new to the game thanks for making these.
These videos have been amazing for watching to get more into poe2. Thank you so much!

Thanks for blessing our Tuesday, Noodle 🙏
"Bannon, mannon, pants cannon." Thats just pure poetry.

Started playing path of exile, but has the habit of skipping all dialog in games. Bad habit.
This was very, very helpful. Thank you!
I have over 5k hours in POE and have NEVER paid attention to the lore. This makes me have a new appreciation for the game.
I rarely leave comments on videos
9 years i skippd all the lore lol and now the game got a new meaning..
all the videos you've made on the POE lore are absolutely amazing !!
thank you
YES Noodle! This is what I wanted! A compilation🙏🏼 Thank you!!

The story of sin is so sad. Amazing storytelling and investigative journalism thankyou
LMAO you got me off guard with the Bannon joke 1:12:28 hahaha
Always love to see new Noodle video.
Good stuff playing PoE 2 and had no idea what was going on, binge watched your stuff. You going to make a PoE 2 lore breakdown per act as well?
Excelent work.
These lore videos rule
I love the lore and the cat shirts
Random thought: Innocence decides to travel "as far south as one can travel in such a fleshy form". What if he ends up finding Kalandra and the lake?
Imagine telling the girl you wanna settle down and have kids with her and she just abandon and leave you
And ties you up for the cops to find you

Poe and Elden ring lore seems similar in a way Gods meaning catastrophic ends and as a result civilizations falls
"Gosh Damn Mermaid" is as funny here as it was for the first time.
Pokedex of god powers we will be able to use. Perfect.
Noodle... WE'RE NOT WORTHY!
How do mortals ascend to gods?
Another misterious unique viridian jewel.....
Lilly is best girl!
owO
The only time I don't read any League lore is the time Noodle will not release League lore...
It’s coming! I’m just out of town for a funeral so I put these up. It should be up around end of the month
Maps not really an endgame, just a midgame as you just completed the games long tutorial.
Let's be honest, POE's lore could be solid base for a show like GoT, and Arakaali's plot would be "that" part of it 🤣
