I really like Live in London. The versions of Aren't You Glad and basically all of side two is just incredible. Although In Concert is also fantastic, I still prefer LIL. Great video once again!

Live in London has some really fun and unique song choices and arrangements (the large backing band/orchestra helped quite a bit with that.) The audience is really into the show as well. It's a fun listen! Thanks for watching!

as ever a very in depth review with tons of info, its a great album and a great sounding album love it, its strange that in america during this period they were not as popular as they were here, almost when they became a more focused band not doing the fun surf and cars songs america tuned out and we embraced their new sound, i love all periods cheers man

Hope my opening British announcer voice was ok! It would definitely take a couple years before their American reputation was rebuilt. Not many hits for them in the US until the mid-1970s. Glad you enjoyed it!

My copy of the album is one I bought when it was still available only as an import from the U.K. on the pale green Capitol label, with the back cover photo from "20/20" as the front cover photo.

I don't have one like that. I need to find one!

Live In London '69 is my favorite Beach Boys live album, although I have and enjoy their other live albums. The emphasis on newer songs (the oldest song in the set list was "California Girls", which was only three years old at this point), plus the addition of back up musicians, particularly the addition of a horn section! The enthusiasm of the audience is wonderful, as well. The horns on the live version of "Aren't you Glad" remind me of the Beatles song "Got To Get You Into My Life". Think also the live version here of "Wake The World" is better than the studio version of the song on the Friends album. Could have seen them doing a live version of "Be Here In The Morning" from the Friends album, on this tour also.

Love the back-up band as well! They did "Wake the World" quite well, and I'm glad they didn't give it the jokey treatment like they did the other songs. I don't know if the group ever did a live version of "Be Here in the Morning." That would be an interesting one for sure! Thanks for the great comment!

I love the 8-track of Beach Boys '69!
I only have one 8-track of theirs - Best of Vol. III - which is fairly rare in any format.

That's a rare 8-track indeed! I think the weird Pickwick abridged reissue is more common. I only have that one on LP (but I guess that's all you really need- I don't want to listen to Frosty that much!)

So true. The whole album is an odd collection of tracks to be sure, but why you would include a Christmas song - and not even an original is beyond me.

The beautiful songs, Little Bird and Friends, didn't deserve a comedic treatment. Also, they should've actively promoted anything by Dennis, Al, or Bruce.

I agree that the comic touches are not appreciated for those songs. The members would never do something like that today! There wasn't too much for The Beach Boys by Jardine or Johnston at this time so I guess it makes sense why they aren't too heavily represented (yet.) Still a good variety here though.

@betamaxblocker True, Bruce and Al didn't write a lot of songs for the Beach Boys during that period. I only mentioned them because along with Dennis, they were the least featured members at various times.
Therefore, the band shouldn't have joked whenever the other guys were being featured. They should've just shut up and let them do their thing.

"...tried Al Jardine but I knew he wouldn't do." An excellent performance and closer, and the perfect audience perspiration/partici-pi-cation songs.

funny you mention Al Jardine, we are friends on Facebook along with some other former band members. Some other associates David Beard, David Leaf and Fred Vail who as the Beach Boys promoter introduced the group to the audience on the 1964 Live Album.

DaddyBog is the man with the answers! There are some other cool releases too, such as the Carnegie Hall 1972 show and some of the bizarre 1967 concerts.
