Great analysis of these re-issues and an always-impression collection of music! I didn't realize the single version of "Be True..." didn't make it to album until 1982. Amazing! Keep up the great work, Betamax!
The way Capitol dealt with the Beach Boys catalog when referring to leftover tracks reminds me of RCA’s way they dealt with Elvis songs that were not on any albums in the early 70s. They put them on the Camden label which like Pickwick was a budget label.
I know that in 1989-1990, in Capitol’s short lived StarLine CD Series, the abridged “California Girls” album was issued on CD, and was pulled from the market when the 1990 Two-Fer series of The Beach Boys catalog was mastered for CD, with bonus tracks.
In my experience, the green labels do sound the best, and even by far. My green label reissues of wild honey, smiley smile, and pet sounds sound as good as ever…. And they are presented in mono only just as intended. I’ve bought multiple copies of the original mono Wild honey, and they all sound extremely muddy with the exception of the Capitol green label. The one released on Brother as a 2-fer in the mid 70s is decent too but I prefer the Capitol reissue though. They do have their problems like you mentioned, leaving off two songs usually from each album, but thankfully, this isn’t the case for Party! - 20/20. These reissues have no omitted songs. I also like this be true to your school album because all songs are presented in mono. Cheers and great video. I’m checking out a lot of your videos and enjoy what you’re doing. Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words! Glad you enjoy my videos. Thanks for the heads-up about the audio quality on the various releases as well. I'll have to watch for more green label releases!
The green labels reissues were good when they were true mono or true stereo, but sadly Dance, Dance , Dance and California Girls were in bass on one channel, treble on the other channel fake stereo- not Duophonic though notwithstanding what it says on the album covers.
Thanks for the info about the mixing and labels! I'll be on the lookout for more of the green ones as this is the only one I have. Thanks for the heads-up regarding the digitally extracted Be True to Your School as well.
Great, some of the ‘reissue’s ‘ were a bit strange. Not sure about Capitol’s bargain basement philosophy! I have most of them. We had MFP bargain basement albums in U.K. 😂
Definitely some weird choices across the board. I have a couple of the MFP releases. They aren't as common in the US but they still pop up at used record places from time to time.

Glad you liked it! Looking forward to your next video and also our collaboration!

That's interesting! Good to know that Capitol wasn't the only label doing stuff like that.

I've seen the CD before, but I never bought it. Someday I need to. I think it was the only one of those reissues to make it to CD.
@@betamaxblocker it was, but with the Summer Days (And Summer Nights) artwork.

Very short lps
They weren't kidding when they said "abridged reissues!"
