We Bought an Old Abandoned Ranch House in Texas… Was This a HUGE Mistake?! 😱

  • We finally did it. We bought a freaking house! But not just any house…we bought maybe the worst house on the market. It’s an 8 acre Texas ranch house that’s been abandoned for 20 years! Over that time, it has had every type of squatter imaginable living here (both people and creature 😳). Can we salvage and renovate this horrifying hoarder house?? Or will we just burn it to the ground and start over? Who knows! Either way, let the endless house renovation begin!

Piece of unsolicited advice: I am watching another RUclipsr who is doing a house renovation, he admits no prior experience, but he is learning how via RUclips videos. This can be ok, but the further he goes, the more apparent it is that he hasn’t thought this through. Installs walls and floors in attic and second floor, then realizes that basement walls need footers, and basement floors need to be replaced due to water issues. Starts addressing that, but then decides that he wands an addition that almost doubles size of basement. Starts to dig it, runs into water table; now needs to lower that by adding drains. Digs (with excavator) 15-ft deep trench in sand to lay tile; runs around in trench with no shoring - this is VERY dangerous as people die in trench collapses. Heaven only knows what is next.
So, congratulations on the house. I’m looking forward to seeing you do the renovation. But, please at least read the comments- there are those here with renovation experience (I’ve done 3 myself). We want you to succeed.

@@cathylewis2181 Yes, he is making money off of his content. But he could also have done things differently that would have saved him headaches, I appreciate the solving problems as they appear, he is very resourceful, but he hasn't made it easy on himself. There is a huge difference between tearing down a family mansion and the ranch house; it's not architecturally interesting or very well built to start with.

To be fair after Clementine this is gonna be a walk in the park. It may be Central Park at 3am near a bush someone may jump out of with a knife. But yeah a walk in the park. You got this. Gold star ⭐️

A fabulous place to have found such a great place for your future. My husband's ancestor (either great or great-great grandfather) was Pleasant Wimberley, the town of Wimberley's namesake. Best of luck to you as you navigate this wonderful new adventure. Looking forward to seeing how things progress and change for the two of you.

Watching Homestead rescue I saw something very interesting that can also apply to your "homestead",you must cut all the trees around your house 30 feet away from your house for 2 reasons, might fall on your house or it might be a forest fire and that way the fire can't reach your house walls.
    Higlyrecomand that show!!!

Those weird ribbons are a Texas area cultural tradition- they’re mum corsages from somebody’s high school or college homecoming. I went to college in Arkansas and have a few mums of my own.

Minor item: The ribbons above the window in the one bedroom look like they might be homecoming mums that a [teenaged] girl would get for the homecoming game/dance. A Texas tradition.
