I am very impressed with Jim Farley in some interviews I have watched. He is one legacy CEO who takes the EV transformation seriously and respects how incredible the Chinese EV juggernaut is. Yes I agree, they are way behind China. I think the key is getting LFP factories under Chinese license up and running in the US. Ford, GM, Tesla all plan to do this. I think it's the battery cost that is making it so hard for legacy to make an EV profit. I don't know if Trump is going to allow a FORD/ CATL or GM/CATL partnership to make battery factories in the US. In fact if I was an American, I would be very pissed off that I can't buy a vehicle with LFP batteries, they are so much safer and have such an incredible lifespan. Jim also mentioned that he watches the Australia market very closely. With Ford Ranger the biggest selling vehicle here and Australia having similarities in large distances, love of utes/pickup trucks and also plenty of anti EV nonsense within the community. But in Australia we have no Chinese tariffs, so obviously he is curious to see how Australians will accept Chinese EV's.
The government has already passed many anti-corporations laws against China. There is no way ford or gm can work with catl or BYD to make batteries affordable in the usa.
Most US citizens don't have an opportunity to test drive a Chinese car, or even just walk around one. It doesn't matter if it's better than the competition if it isn't allowed to compete.
If a phone company can build a better car than legacy car companies then as a CEO I would for sure keep an eye on it. Keep friends close but enemies closer.
Farley driving a Xiaomi is a bit like Custer wearing a feathered headdress before the battle. Not likely to worry the opposition but sure to get some worried glances from his men and ultimately not changing the outcome of the battle.
The reason he has been so publicly driving a Chinese EV is because Republican CEOs are always looking for new ways to shut down manufacturing jobs in America and give those jobs to China. This is most likely an assessment period, and he will cut a deal for them to manufacture an EV with the Ford brand. At the year-end Republican Gala, as the CEOs laugh and brag about how many America jobs they've shut-down, it's nice to know that Ford maintains bragging rights too. No doubt Mary Barra will be driving one soon too - she wouldn't be caught dead in a GM - not on her $30 Million compensation.
I call BS on this. The SU7 can't be imported in the US because it hasn't complied with the safety tests required for US passenger vehicles. It might be imported only as a PROP model to be studied and not legally drivable on roads.
Calling all APPLE ENTHUSIASTS! Brace yourselves for a new ride in town! Not only will it be swift, but it will also bring along a monthly membership fee. Imagine, Apple even has its snazzy plug-in style that dares to stand out, making your ordinary chargers feel like yesterday's news. And guess what? Those chargers won't be tagging along with your shiny new wheels; they're up for a separate purchase!
Jim Farley is an honest person.
I just invested in Xiaomi. Future is bright for them
Chinese stuff are no longer cheap and poor quality. Now they are still cheap but some of the best quality

US is not a free market anymore, when can't compete, close the door 😂
XPENG just showed off their flying car production version at the Zhuhai Airshow 2024.
The best EV in the world

If the US and EU complain about state subsidies by the Chinese government, then why dont they do the same to level the playing field!!!
They have numerous times but it's been used for share buy backs and directed as payout to its shareholders

Beautifully put :)
