Other minor edits are a combo of Billy Joel's direction and tape damage. Ironically it's Noctourne that gets the extra notes tacked on that it's the only song extended.

That is just incredible, my favorite song of all time, listened to it 100 times, actaully had an uncut version that had an amazing ending and is overall ten times better. Today is probably on of the most shocking, best days of my life. I can’t believe this song never was given the full cut. I wish this song was on Spotify

I wish Columbia records would just release the slightly slower version warts and all for the public. The stripped down version that they release in 1984 just doesn't cut it for me.
The 1983 re-release of Cold Spring Harbor is much like the original Phil Spector-ized version of The Beatles' Let It Be. What Artie Ripp did was hire some musicians to provide new instrumental overdubs on top of the speed-corrected recordings. To me, this is like what Spector did to the released version of "The Long and Winding Road," which drove Paul McCartney against the wall.
It's truly sad how professional sound and recording engineers, paid big bucks, screwed up this album's recordings. It could have been one amazing debut.
I believe the original release sounded the way it did, because I think the tape machine was apparently set at about half speed when recording began, so that when the album was finished and then played back, that it sounded the way it did.

This is partly what Billy complained about in The Entertainer.
It wasn't shelved, it was on the original CSH album. When they corrected the speed and re-released it in the 80s Billy wanted it shortened.

This one is from the original LP. Many of the others came from tapes I acquired many years ago. How they came to be available is a mystery.
I think they cut the long jam at the end and axed the strings on tomorrow is today to avoid paying royalties.
