This was recorded well before digital technology provided an easy and affordable way to add reverb ambience to recordings. Being 71 I have lived and experienced music from so many generations I feel my generation has been very lucky my grandparents born in 1890’s introduced me to old folk and music hall songs and old traditional balladsMy parents born in the 1900’s and 1920’s lived and fought through the war with the old crooners and big bands my mother sang with one in the war years.I have lived through the fifties, sixties ,seventies, from the Beatles the hippies and all the great heavy and rock bands including Jethro Tull and T Rex as well as the contemporary folk of the seventies and loved them all.In the words of a tradition Russian ballad “. @@wombatski100 Aphrodite's Child were based in France so were not listened in the UK, especially since they lasted 2.5 years. The last album, this one, was released after the split up of the band and was not promoted or played by radios, firstly because it has an orgasm song that lasts many minutes and the label thought that was over the top and should be taken out, and also because of the themes which were a little mistakenly interpreted. Hey there - the stunning and abbsolute unique voice brought me here (I don't even know about Ford Kuga 😊) Love this Song for ever! Sweet Greetings from Germany to Cymru - Iove your lovely country
The double-tracked vocals when the drums kick in get me every single time! this is a song you can just play over and over and over and it never gets boring!
I was born in 1965 - had 2 older brothers and sisters....I can remember this song very clearly when I was a young girl....blew me away then.....and still does...Vangelis was a genius songwriter....soundtrack for the recent Blade Runner is mind blowing....!!
Yes,I am German and born in 1962.A little bit too young for this music but when I became older I was atttracted by the Hippie-movement.And there I found this wonderful music!
I remember when I bought the Album 1986 in the World of music in Munich. I didn't now what I bought but the cover looked cool. 1986 I was 18 year old. Today when I hear these tracks again, I realize that they have a great influence of my understanding of music. Thank you for that.
I just discovered these guys from Spotify, and man, what a song. The entire arrangement was fabulous but Demis Roussos' ethereal, semi-operatic vocals were just epic and out of this world!
A fantastic masterpiece and 47 years old! I went back in time. There is no such music today. What a guitar solo and the drums!!! Irene Pappas sings with Vagelis, Roussos, Sideras and Koulouris! The soaring vocals of Demis Roussos seem to come from another dimension. A huge inspiration!❤❤❤

A great great band, the never the success they deserves. Better than all the other bands of that era, and we are talking about the greatest bands ever!
At the time of their existence, from 1966 to 1972 , they had quite a row of hits throughout Europe and gained several golden records. So they were actually quite successful during their time as a band. At the time of their separation they were, as The Beatles a year before, at the peak of their career. But Vangelis had developed a more avangardistic plan for the artistic trajectory of the band, which Demis and Lukas would not share, thus they decided to go their separated ways, and they started their solo careers after the completion of 666 album. Nethertheless Vangelis and Demis would still cooperate on later solo objects of each other. Vangelis composed and produced even some of Demis' most successful solo albums.
I'm absolutely devastated and deeply saddened by the passing of one of "THE GREATEST" singers of the 20th century, the 666 album is one my all time favourites and I absolutely love the four horseman and Demis Roussos's soaring vocals sound like they emanate from another dimension. If there was ever a Greek god living among us mere mortals it was definately Demis and his memory and music will live on in all of our hearts. May his spirit soar as high as his voice through the cosmos and beyond. Farewell "my friend the wind". :-(
Rip Vangelis !!! Le monde du rock et du metal te remercie pour ce morceau tellement sous estimé !!! A classer parmi les plus grands morceaux des années 70 !!! Merci...
Exactly what I was thinking. How did I get all the way to 2023 before ever coming across this song? I wish someone would have told me about this track DECADES ago!

This certainly deserves to be recognised as one of the greatest guitar solos ever played. Take a bow Silver Koulouris. And the chord at 5:08 is unreal.
@@popodopulus3826 Did you also know the the title "The Rolling People" is taken from the lyrics of another track on the album this track comes from 666? The track is called "Altamont". Richard Ashcroft absolutely plundered this album. There are bits and pieces of it popping up all over the place on Verve tracks, partcularly the more trippy stuff.

To think this incredible man (Demis) was only ever depicted on Australian TV as a kaftan-wearing Greek singer is unbelievable! I tuned out (not understanding) and missed out on this amazing band. At age 57 a RUclips friend suggested I check out this band. All I can say is "Better late than never", this is compulsive and compelling listening. Thank you dear @Aparecida and thanks for this great post.
+Aparecida Mendes Can we say "four exotic Greek guys"? "Silver" Koulouris has never got enough credit for his work in the band, as his solo at the end of this song shows.

Dear Demis Roussos, I truly enjoyed listening to your voice when you were singing in Aphrodite's Child, with The Four Horsemen as one of my favourites. Thank you. Rest in peace.
I found this song about 8-10 years ago after reading an article about the "greatest Greek rock band to break the UK". I loved the song but went onto other things and ended up forgetting the bands name along with the song title.... Until I watched the car advert! Thank fuck for rewind TV and Shazam!!!! Reunited with this song at last and it's even better than I remember! Great guitar solo 👌🏼
And when the lamb opened the first seal, I saw the first Horse, The Horseman held a bow. R.I.P Demis. You will be missed. Thanks for bringing progressive rock to Greece.
Great piece of greek rock music. So big talent there and imagine what Vangelis achieved!!! Now we listen this band more because of our greek lady friend and her husband, wondering when to go back the beaches there.
The same age in Japan. The Aegean Sea happened to be introduced on a radio program popular among young people in the mid-70s, and Aphrodite's Child 666 became quite popular among our generation in Japan. The fact that the CD continues to be reissued over and over again proves its enduring popularity.
This song is absolutely AMAZING! I can't believe it came out in 1972 and I'm just now today finding out about it. It sort of reminds me of another amazing and somewhat similar sounding track that I recently came across: Maggot Brain by Funkadelic. Both have those incredible screaming guitar sounds that were a signature of the early 70's.

The Ford Kuga brought me here, and am so happy it did. I had totally forgotten this masterpiece
Idem ditto ✌🤘

Same here! Demis had an awesome voice. So sad he's no longer with us.
Ditto !!
That's what I'm doing right now. Over and over.
I cannot believe this song is being used in a car advert now. Massive surprise.
@@bonnyscottland192 If not for that commercial I'd have never known the song exists.

Me to Dark Woods, can't believe I've not heard it before! Been a rocker for decades haha :-D
The song is still fresh in 2021! Amazing
I just discovered these guys from Spotify, and man, what a song. The entire arrangement was fabulous but Demis Roussos' ethereal, semi-operatic vocals were just epic and out of this world!
Glad you found them. Most of us grew up listening to this our lives and just took it for granted
The drumming is absolutely incredible. Great production for it’s time as well
Loukas sideras
I never heard a voice like that of Demis Roussos and I never will again. RIP Demis and Vangelis.
One of the best songs ever. Thanks to a small disco called Getaway in Solingen, Germany, I was lucky to get to know and love it in the 1990.
Hallo Nicole Marschall get away kenn ich komme aus remscheid 😊😊andrea
This album will always stand as a masterpiece. RIP Vangelis.

@@truthcommentor6273 The cross in the chest of Roussos is orthodox.
This guys voice is so epic. Almost operatic. It really makes their music that much better. All the musicians are superb. So great to hear Biblical themes put to such wonderful music.

Rest in Peace Musical Genius, light years ahead of our times, of every music ever produced.
This is one of those very rare, entirely transformational tracks that they will STILL be talking about well over 100 years from now.
I go to his grave many times! H is alive!!
