The Boys is one of those shows that always knows how to select the best music for it's scenes... this is a big compliment but it reminds me of The Sopranos in that sense.

Right on! When I was a little kid I heard it and thought this was The Beatles or a John Lennon solo track. Later heard a dj say it was Billy Joel and was blown away.
Although I'm Japanese and this song was released 40years ago, I really heard by TV (started "Best hit USA" that time also) and FM radio 📻. This time I just found this Billy Joel channel in RUclips, I'm so happy 😊
Joel is the king of variety, his songs are so different from one another. But also sets the bar with each song. This song reminds me alot of Bowie but like PEAK Bowie.
I can ESPECIALLY relate to the song "Surprises"-which was-presumably-about a guilt ridden young gentleman who had committed a serious, consequential verbal indiscretion-as I did in Des Moines, Iowa on the evening of December 24'th, 1987-at the tender young age of 22 years/9 months/8 days-then-and now-I feel that Billy Joel was talking directly to ME!
Is this a reference to something? Because if not, this comment is SEVERELY underrated. Absolutely hilarious, and I will probably remember this for a long time
The cool thing about this music in The Boys it's that it describes exactly how Hughie was feeling, "you have no scars on your face, and you cannot handle pressure", even tho Hughie lost his girl, he is not someone with many scars such as Butcher.
I've listened to Billy Joel ever since I was a little girl - my parents always had the music on and I am so grateful for it! His songs have quite literally been the soundtrack to my life. At about this time so many musicians resorting to the versatility of the synthesizer. BJs entry in the game is highly satisfying. Very surprising to hear him do something like this.
I heard this on XM radio a while back (it was either Billy’s channel or Garth Brooks’) and been listening to it for months, so much so that I got the nylon curtain on vinyl just for it and Allentown. Then my friend got me into the Boys and it plays in season 2. Such an underrated Joel song 👌🏻
