He moves out but always manages to pop up again with that sweet fragrance of the good old times he's given you, almost 50 years! to me, there's four types of simple lifes: 1. the people who have no choice but to live a simple life, 2. the people who had it all, but realized that it's all a rigged psychopathic game, and left. 3. the people who fake living simple while still being rich. and finally 4. understanding that the workers who create the work can and should own the workplace.
@@General_Grievance but would it be better to depressed in a 3 bedroom in London, or not to be depressed in a one bedroom in Lancaster? I'm not saying that we shouldn't be focused on resources, but there are emotional and social resources as well as material resources, and that we need to be focused on our health as much as we do wealth, in order to have a prosperous life.
The end of the song hit so hard for me. The sound of the motorcycle taking off has a message behind it. It’s a lot like life, when it’s time to move on from a situation/cycle, just pull off…. Don’t turn back keep going forward.

ALRIGHT YOU FELLAS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🏿
i think this song is about how people conform to society. everyone wants to make it big with lots of money and fancy, fast cars. we as humans don’t need all of this to be happy. simple lives is what we were made to have. lots of materialistic things like money and cars and clothes and technology just lead to fighting and wars.
As a scapegoat of an NPD family obsessed with materialism, status and image who moved out, this is my song.
to me, there's four types of simple lifes: 1. the people who have no choice but to live a simple life, 2. the people who had it all, but realized that it's all a rigged psychopathic game, and left. 3. the people who fake living simple while still being rich. and finally 4. understanding that the workers who create the work can and should own the workplace.

SPOT ON! 💘✊✌
Yeah, but somehow it's better to be depressed in a multi-million dollar mansion than in a crappy one bedroom apartment.
Anthony works in the grocery store
Savin' his pennies for some day
Mama Leone left a note on the door
She said
"Sonny, move out to the country"
Oh but workin' too hard can give you a heart attack
You oughta know by now
Who needs a house out in Hackensack?
Is that all you get for your money?
And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama, if that's movin' up, then I'm movin' out
Sergeant O'Leary is walkin' the beat
At night he becomes a bartender
He works at Mister Cacciatore's down on Sullivan Street
Across from the medical center
And he's tradin' in his Chevy for a Cadillac
You oughta know by now
And if he can't drive
With a broken back
At least he can polish the fenders
And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama, if that's movin' up, then I'm movin' out
You should never argue with a crazy mind
You oughta know by now
You can pay Uncle Sam with the overtime
Is that all you get for your money?
And if that's what you have in mind
Yeah, if that's what you're all about
Good luck, moving up, 'cause I'm movin' out
I'm movin' out

This song is a masterpiece. Timeless.
Absolutely incredibly song, recently I was handed down my folks Vinyl collection and amongst them are four early Billy Joel LP's, it's been over 40yrs since I heard these whilst growing up in the 1970's & early 80's and what an amazing treat, along with Streetlife Serenader and Goodnight Saigon, I thanked my Mum gave her a kiss and promised her that those 4 Billy Joel albums will stay will me until my days are done. Thanks for the music Mr Joel, I'm 50 now and rediscovering your talent that I heard for the first time when I was in single figures!
This was one of the biggest and best albums when I was in college. I ran down to the university bookstore to buy it, too.
So frickin’ good. Thank you Billy Joel. You can never argue with a crazy mind. Been there done that.
A song plays to my ears and in my head rolls a video of family. There's times that are sweet and some sour but when the track ends it's magnifico.
