All the members of Toto were session musicians, very proficient musicians who had all worked with some very well-known bands. So when they got together, they were a very talented band. Obviously, they could all sing well so we get these wonderful harmonies.
@@biizorBoz Scaggs, Steely Dan, Miles David, etc etc. I once saw an interview that Steve Lukather was called in for the new track of Michael Jackson, later became Beat it, since the song is too pop. Steve did as what is now the main riff of the song, although Eddie Van Halen did the solo. 😊
I know you already know this but multiple people being able to do amazing harmonies while playing live is a nothing burger when recording. A lead singer can do all his backing tracks himself . Now that said I think it should be illegal to do your own backtracks because it undermines the amazing talent of bands like Toto who had multiple backing singers who were all amazing. Just my opinion 🤷
Such a simple guitar riff but the way it is delivered is so iconic and powerful… the tone on the guitar is ridiculously good too. I also have never noticed that harmony at the end of the guitar solo - really masterfully done.
There's a live concert online where Lukather plays the same guitar/setup - the recording isn't that good, but BY GOD he has a nice tone going there. Les Paul -something-something '58-something :) (I'm a keyboard player/mixer) // Sonic Peak Studio

Hold the Line had a very distinctive sound when it was released back in 1978. There's not many singles have had as long a guitar solo. Always felt they have flown a bit under the radar. Highly polished limousine of a band.
Ma Ch no, music would still exist. because it already does. so it doesn’t matter if there are no humans. people sent music to space and guess what NO HUMANS. dumbass
@@brisakruspe Yeah, you're really not getting Ma Ch's point - music doesn't and won't exist forever. It is stored on mediums (vinyl, tape, MP3, etc) all of which can be destroyed. It the planet is destroyed so is the music.

HOLD THE LINE, THIS SONG STILL ON TIME AND DOESN'T GET OLD... DOES IT!!👍👍
One of the best songs ever! Takes me back to the late 1970's, riding in my boyfriend's gold Trans-Am with the t-tops off. Wind blowing in my hair. 💨 YAH is so good to me. 🥰 Now I hear this song & it reminds me of His perfect timing. I change the lyrics from Your love sets me free, to Your Word sets me free! HalleluYAH! 🎶🎵🎶✨🙌✨💖✨
Wow wow wow
I had a 79 Trans Am with T-tops - I absolutely loved it!
More importantly, Jesus saves sinners! God bless you fellow rocker !
All the members of Toto were session musicians, very proficient musicians who had all worked with some very well-known bands. So when they got together, they were a very talented band. Obviously, they could all sing well so we get these wonderful harmonies.
Name some bands... To know more about this great musicians
That’s awesome and explains a lot about how flawlessly well rounded Toto’s sound was
I know you already know this but multiple people being able to do amazing harmonies while playing live is a nothing burger when recording. A lead singer can do all his backing tracks himself . Now that said I think it should be illegal to do your own backtracks because it undermines the amazing talent of bands like Toto who had multiple backing singers who were all amazing. Just my opinion 🤷
@@siwallyniit’s miles Davis
Such a simple guitar riff but the way it is delivered is so iconic and powerful… the tone on the guitar is ridiculously good too. I also have never noticed that harmony at the end of the guitar solo - really masterfully done.
Just noticed all the same things and agree 100!
That harmony at the end of the riff has always been one of my favorite parts of this song! Absolutely gorgeous
So simple, so raw, and sounds badass even after 50 years
There's a live concert online where Lukather plays the same guitar/setup - the recording isn't that good, but BY GOD he has a nice tone going there. Les Paul -something-something '58-something :) (I'm a keyboard player/mixer) // Sonic Peak Studio
Speaking of GT-tone - check them out here. And Steve Lukathers solo @ 2:58 : ruclips.net/video/J6-2jpl0qZs/видео.html

Steve Lukather. I think he was around 25 at the time. Crazy.

This song is way more catchy than Africa in my opinion. WAY too underrated.
I wouldn’t call Africa catchy, just beautiful and calming.
Africa is a classic everyone literally knows that’s song

@A1 Steak Mann AHH that's cool but the music and voices was half of the experience! I loved the radio stations in vice city especially. You should reply it again
@A1 Steak Mann That's cool then! I was gonna buy it on Steam since I haven't played it in years. I didn't know they remastered it, is it available for pc??

Hold the Line had a very distinctive sound when it was released back in 1978. There's not many singles have had as long a guitar solo. Always felt they have flown a bit under the radar. Highly polished limousine of a band.
The best session players/song writers out there. They dont make em like this anymore for sure

@@brisakruspe Yeah, you're really not getting Ma Ch's point - music doesn't and won't exist forever. It is stored on mediums (vinyl, tape, MP3, etc) all of which can be destroyed. It the planet is destroyed so is the music.

Tristan Clemons ....best comment in this thread.
Tristan McCoy yeah, back in the day musicians didn't fuck around when it came to making music. They developed talent, not like today at all.
nah mate, theres plenty of amazing bands out there, i'd say theres more talent today than back then. its just they arent in your face on tv or radio anymore. instead you have to look just a little
Tim Worley that may be true. It's accountants and executives who have zero talent or music integrity who have ran the music industry into the ground. The little kids are the customers and the crap they buy is what rules. 👎🏻
but that doesnt matter, if you go and discover underground bands you like, chances are other people are gonna like them too, by word of mouth a band can become huge
