I am 38, and I've loved music all my life. For some reason I am discovering Billy Joel now. It is the same wonderful and special feeling as when I discovered the Beatles, The Police, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Elton John, Stevie Wonder... Each new song I find is a gem of music, feellings and styles. It's a wonderful experience that doesn't happen many times in life and I didn't expect it to have at this age. Thank you Billy Joel.
I first knew of this from the Tom Hanks show Bosom Buddies. And even when it first came out, apparently it was a smash hit in the Philippines because the same year in the Philippines this Filipino movie was playing it in the background. I thought that’s pretty cool that this music was that so well received.

I'm 47 and finally cutting off my toxic mother after almost 50 years of abuse. It's taken this long to even work out how abusive she is and what she's done to my head. There's actually nothing wrong with my head but my body is so full of tension (and a bit wrecked from drugs & alcohol, trying to cope). It's her who needs a team of psychiatrists. Covert emotional abuse can be worse than obvious abuse and go on for a lot longer. I hope this helps someone ❣️
I also cut off my toxic mother when I hit 43, I decided that I could no longer tip toe around her constant criticism and demeaning me in front of others because she is a mother. Her ego is such that she admits no wrong and expects her children to acquiesce to her always. I had fucking had it and have not spoken with her for over a decade. Do I miss her, not at all. Do I love her, not sure. However, I refused to live the remaining possible half of my life unhappy. All the best.
proud of you. i feel you so much. people always say oh you have to love your mother don't matter what. fuck that. we must choose ourselves and being happy at all costs

My mom was kind of strict. More of a sensitive soul but getting her pissed off wasn’t a great idea. My dad was the strict one. He had a tone that would make the hairs on the back of the neck stand up. He was pretty good with a boot in the ass or a belt on the ass but that was for rare occasions. I thank Alan for introducing me to this song , whenever someone tells I can't do something I just sing the hook to them and I feel at peace. Thanks Alan 😀
My mother's favorite song. She introduced this song to me as a kid, and I'm forever grateful. Not only does this song also apply to me, but also, further, to people who I know. In a twisted sense, I'm the cause of others to feel this song to be applied to, as well. Yes, this song may be a testament to the philosophy, "Friends come and go", but we all need to go on our own path, eventually. Either way, this is a timeless classic.
I came across this song on a reel on FB. FB lead me here and this is my FIRST time hearing this!!! This track is singing straight FACTS!!! When you distance yourself from toxic people and their behaviors, you get a sense of “I don’t give a f*** attitude” and this is the BEST VERSION of yourself and being at peace. This song speaks so many volumes
Baby, what you just said has been my anthem since the early 90’s…. and after ‘coming out’, this song says more than I ever knew it could.. I’m glad you found it👍👍🏳️🌈👍
I first heard this song around 40 years ago and it was always a favorite as a kid and young teen. Glad to hear you've discovered it now all these years later. So cool that good music is timeless and cross generational
I'm sure you've checked out more of his stuff by now, but if you haven't, you should check out "I'm movin' out". Very similar vibe- old school, lively, upbeat, one truth bomb after another.
Born in 81. Bosom Buddies introduced me to Billy Joel at a very young age. 43 now and I still listen to Billy on the daily and so do my fuckn neighbors!!!! It’s still just rock n roll to me
My life by Billy Joel made it to number 1 on 11/16/1978 in the nation and I was on my way to duty in the Philippines in the Navy at the Ship Repair Facility Subic Bay, the very best tour of duty I ever had when I was in the Navy. A few months later my late wife & I got married on April 5, 1979 and we stayed married up to March 6, 2010 when she passed away a month shy of being married 31 years. It was my theme song for years. My life by Billy Joel is my favorite Billy Joel song, my other favorite Billy Joel song is She's always a woman to me which was played a lot on radio stations in the Philippines in April & May of 1979.
i have always loved billy joel's music. that new york coolness he exudes. italiano also. i consider him an american icon and treasure. love from new zealand billy.
Since people like to share memories... Mine is this song on vinyl. My dad had a very huge vinyl collection. And then it became the Bossum Buddies theme!
I haven't heard this song in a while but I heard it in my dream last night and couldn't get it out of my head until I got to school. Now it's night time and I found myself humming it! I wonder what made me do that? XD
Although not intended, this is one of the most emotional songs for me. I remember listening to this song on the way to visit my grandad in hospital not thinking much of it at the time. After he passed, I was having a really bad day missing him and as I was walking home put my music on shuffle and this was the first song that came on. When I actually stopped to listen to the lyrics, in particular the chorus, I started crying it was like my grandad was telling me he was okay where he was and he didn’t want to come ‘home’. It comforts me listening to it as I feel like it’s my grandad telling me that he’s okay and that he wants me to move on and live my life to the fullest.
My parents are being stressful right now, mainly my dad, but I couldn’t handle it and went outside to my car and turned the radio on. After just two songs this came on and I turned the volume up so loudly, it was like a sign from the universe that eventually everything would be fine ❤️ came here to listen again and comment ❤️ Have faith loves, things will get better I promise and never feel bad for taking time for yourself
When I'm complainin' 'bout life & someone says (sarcastically) "poor you, you're a victim of circumstances", I automatically reply "I never said that" :D Thank you, Billy Joel!!

But not on my time
They will tell you you can't sleep alone
In a strange place
Then they'll tell you you can't sleep

In your own space

It's just beautiful. Billy just makes your day better.
This Was my ringtone for years!
Billy Joel is one of my favorite american singer mainly with this song.......
I'm glad you found it and genuinely enjoy it StarrTaylor!! It's your life.
@@ryusato5594Funny you mention that, that's another one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. An anthem of independence. Something us trailblazers need.
This is my Childhood right here 🙏
This is a rocking tune. The instrument beats are insane.
ビリー・ジョエルのベストSong。バックコーラスが暖かいく、心に残る名作‼️
Billy is the best vocal and pianist singer ... Love him :)
Elton

Mi ídolo desde niña desde 1.979...Billy Joel.
I love this song 2024
Sorry about your loss 30 years is a long marriage
So sorry to hear .& thanks for your service! My dad served in the Navy as well ! 😊except he was on the east coast .
When times in the 70s and 80s were beautiful!!!!!!!

The liberation of this song is TIMELESS, you hear me?!?!?!
Since people like to share memories...
Mine is this song on vinyl. My dad had a very huge vinyl collection. And then it became the Bossum Buddies theme!
Loudly playing this in my new car. 🎉
That piano solo is classic.
And yet if you ever hear this song on the radio, it is cut out. They can't keep those few seconds in? blasphemy.....
@@ronb9913 they had to cut it down to 3:05

30+ years since I’ve heard this and couldn’t agree more. We’re all going to the same place no matter what anyone says or does, so yeah.
I don’t care what anyone says this is MY #1 Billy Joel song
Billy Joel one of the very finest artist in music .
Best of peter cetera and billy joel
Gracias Billy por regalarnos tan bonitas canciones
This is my favorite song with all the people that hate me because I am a son of God!
I haven't heard this song in a while but I heard it in my dream last night and couldn't get it out of my head until I got to school. Now it's night time and I found myself humming it! I wonder what made me do that? XD
It's an amazing song, not surprised by your story in the least bit
The same thing happened to me but with "Black No. 1" by Type O Negative.
You probably have passed on taste in music from your parents, i know this cause my mum loves billy joel and i like it too.
Reminds me of Paul McCartney & Wings. It's a Fantastic song. BJ hit this one out of the park. Thanks for posting!
i never understood the power of these lyrics until my 40s! I FULLY GET IT!!!
I remember hearing this song as the theme to Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari's show Bosom Buddies in the 80's and fell in love with it instantly.
I loved that show!
My parents are being stressful right now, mainly my dad, but I couldn’t handle it and went outside to my car and turned the radio on. After just two songs this came on and I turned the volume up so loudly, it was like a sign from the universe that eventually everything would be fine ❤️ came here to listen again and comment ❤️
Have faith loves, things will get better I promise and never feel bad for taking time for yourself
ビリージョエルの曲のなかでは、「ピアノマン」の次に好きな曲。 アップテンポのリズミカルな曲調がいかにも ビリーらしい新境地を感じさせる名曲。
Eversince you're my favorite singer idol🎵🎼🎶🎧🎸🎸🎸🎤😘😘😘❤❤❤
This reminds me so much of my dad when he played this on his 8 track in the truck when I was a kid. Now I'm 45 and love this song so much.
I love this song because I feel the same way..people, mind your OWN business!!
This made it all the way to #3 during the Christmas & New Year's season of 1978 & '79.
Billy Joel’s music is the theme song of the Middle Working Class American Man
When I'm complainin' 'bout life & someone says (sarcastically) "poor you, you're a victim of circumstances", I automatically reply "I never said that" :D Thank you, Billy Joel!!
