@Rachel L. Gore Yes & no. Record labels have never existed to "help" artists achieve financial goals. It's always been about how they can turn a profit by investing in bands they believe give them the best shot to do this. Thus, only a small percentage of artists ever made their money from album sales since labels kept most of it to recoup the costs of distribution and promotion. Some bands even ended up dirt poor despite having massively successful singles, etc. Artists have always made most of their money from touring and live shows--unless the label took that too. With the internet, bands can remove the middle-man and self-promote. With RUclips bands can release music and keep all the ad revenue. They can also sell their music on itunes and Amazon for a fraction of what labels would take from them. For the first time in history we're seeing bands find success completely without the need for a record label. So, with 163+ million views, I'm guessing Journey is still making money on this song because of this channel.

My friend just recently passed away, we're only freshmen in high school. He was taken too soon, but he loved this song. I remember when we were in band together one year and he was so excited when he found out that we were going to play this song. I'll see you again someday, Christian.🕊
I'm old. I remember when this song came out. It was just another decent song at the time. I NEVER could have imagined it would have such a resurgence after all these years. I never would have imagined that it would play every single day on the radio 40 years later and that our kids would even be listening to it. Journey was WAY ahead of their time with this one.
You are right who would have known that journey would make such an impact today 💘 Steve Perry and your not old just getting better just like 72 year old me
My music teacher in middle school was scary and demanding, but world class. When I was in 5th grade she told us to go home and listen to this song, we’re gonna be playing it for pep band. I’ll never forget going home and really listening to it for the first time that night. Music never made me feel like that before, and I’ve never stopped chasing it ever since. She died a few years ago, but I’ll never forget her. Can’t comprehend how greatly she impacted my life. Good teachers are an incredible blessing. So is this song.
This hits me hard because in my 6th grade year I had amazing teachers and they really worked hard to provide a healthy education for me and my classmates. In 7th grade however, my teaching experience greatly decreased in quality. I was very heartbroken but they actually ended up being amazing once I got about 2 months into 7th because they started having us do more soul healing and I realized that they were awesome all along and it was my view that they were not as good just because I had certain standards. Thanks for this song. We did song lyrics in 7th grade and they're meanings. I wish that we did this song. It is really beautiful.
I was homeless for five months living out of my car. The worst part of the experience was being perpetually tired due to fatigue. I recovered but my heart forever goes out to the homeless now because I will NEVER forget how they feel, and it's still frustrating to not be able to help anymore than I can. God love them, and I pray that someday this problem will be permanently irradicated through awareness and advocacy, especially for veterans.
The Soprano!!! That ending changed everything on me now that I listen to this beautiful song again. You never know where or when your life is gonna ends so just don’t stop believing!!!
Thank you dad for introducing me to the Sopranos. Although we never got to watch it together, I know we will be able to talk about it together in Heaven.
Believe me dude, eventually, all these memories will make you better, stronger, smarter... It's funny, but losing someone does really help to improve your life. It makes you think about everything you lost and how you can improve for the future, so you never take things for granted ever again. The beginning is rough, thou, so hang in there, it might take a while, but one of the greatest feels you will get is to remember things with joy, and a smile about how good it felt, and how great things are now thanks to that one person. I know right now it might feel like everything sucks... But believe me, this bittersweet emotion eventually will evolve in something wonderful. She or he never really leaves, it stays there, helping you to become better and better... One day, you'll do the same for someone else.
This song saved my dads life. Let me explain. My dad used to be a black hawk pilot in the military. He was tasked to carry some cargo at 3 in the morning after already working super hard the entirety before hand. Him and his pilot coworkers all were tired, they were going to fall asleep at any time if they even closed there eyes. Then my dad started singing the lyrics on the radio. Everyone else joined in. And for about a good 3 hours, they constantly sang this song to stay awake. My dad tells this story when its brought up, and its a great story from my dads time in the military. Thanks for reading.
@@johnnydavidson5343 He flew black hawks (Helicopters). I dont know what else to call him if there is another term for it. Unless your very specific and want me to call him a helicopter pilot.

He came with nothing but determination, striving for a better life… Shout out to all the parents and people who gave everything to escape hardship.. Cheers to you Dad in Heaven 🕊️🙏🏽
Some songs touch ones life in ways unexplainable. This song is the history of me & my husband who died in Iraq in 2003. He was from Detroit, me from some no where southern town, both went to Las Vegas and had the remarkable fortune of bumping into each other.

When I graduated highschool, 5 fellow students got together and performed this song for us, a very fitting graduation song IMO. The instrumentals were bang on, but you can't play this song to a crowd and not expect it to turn into karaoke with everyone screaming lyrics at the top of their lungs. Their lead guitarist was a friend of mine and damn could he play. Any spare moment for as long as I knew him was dedicated time to that guitar and he was definitely showing off, playing one section with the guitar behind his back and crushing the solo. It was not meant to be a perfect performance, but was it ever in its own way, a bitter-sweet memory I'll never forget. I fully expected to see him make a living off that guitar, but sadly he passed away just 3 years later. When a friend passes away, it sucks, but this one bothers me so much more because you just knew he was going places. To the best guitarist I've ever known personally, Nick, rest in peace my friend, hard to believe it's been 10 years.
I feel you my dad was probably the best bass player I ever heard but he always procrastinated and never did anything with it and he would play this song right on maybe better he passed this past September from covid and since I picked up the bass and taught myself to play you in his memory maybe you should try in his memory even if you don't do anything with it he will know and you and that's all that matters
Lost my best friend recently. He was 22 and was raised to this music, lost both his parents very early but yet he was the Happiest most positive human ive ever met. Ill never encounter another soul like his. I imagined growing old with him & it fucks me up. Don't stop believing. Rest in peace Joshua 💙

My dad is visually impaired and lost his toes at a very young age. He thought he would live the rest of his life alone with no companion. Until he met my mom and she loved him for who he is. Married 36 years and now he has kids and grandkids. Don’t stop believing (:

This song tells the story as to how Journey came together as a band and the message it sends to people to not stop chasing after your dreams. Jonathan Cain was a struggling musician and hit rock bottom. He called his Dad asking if he could come live with him because he had lost hope about his dream to be a musician. His dad told him, “Don’t stop believing!” That’s how they made this song and how Cain joined the band and how Journey became one of the greatest bands ever. Don’t stop believing people, follow your dreams!
Whoever is reading this I can only imagine the pain your going through God has instructed me to share this message with you please don’t kill yourself you have family who care about you you have lots of memories you still need to make and things to do don’t do it it will only bring pain to others I pray whoever needs this finds this in the beautiful name of yeshua Amen 🙏
My sister passed away in December and that was her favorite song of all times. Every time I listen to it, I can feel my ears pulsating, as if she's next to me singing it at the top of her lungs.
My mom also passed away on December. I dream about her all the time and there's music I don't listen to because it's just too painful right now, which tells me you are brave and will be fine. May God grant you consolation and have mercy on your sister!
This song is magic. tempo beat and lyrics first class. The producers of the Sopranos couldn't have picked a better song as a build-up to the sudden darkness., which was a shock to all us Soprano fans.
It doesn’t matter how old you are or what genre of music you usually listen to...EVERYONE loves this song! It’s one of the best songs ever written or performed!!

I had a paper route when i was 12 and my dad kept tight tabs on my money. I wasn't allow to freely spend it and i pretty much did as i was told for fear of a licking. One day, right after i heard this on the radio i walked down to the local Sears with $7.99 of my paper route money and bought it. I left my bedroom window open so i could toss it in and thus return home empty handed just in case my parents were in the front room. I think my dad knew but he was cool enough to understand that a bit of teenage disobedience isn't a bad thing. I grew out of the record but cherish the memories of a time when people were still excited about new music.

That series ending scene of the Sopranos really brought his song back. I remember when it came out originally it was huge but that Sopranos ending just rocketed this to 11. I still remember it. Great song.
Sopranos introduced me to this song and now it's all about it. When I listen to it random people start entering the restaurant and Meadow starts struggling with the parallel parking.
Just yesterday finished Sopranos and from then i can't stop listening this masterpiece. Legendary song, Legendary series, Legendary David Chase, Legendary James Gandolfini.
Same bro!! I finished this great show for the first time just on last sunday and now I'm stuck with this song!! And as you said, legendary song, legendary David Chase and legendary James Gandolfini. A true masterpiece, unforgettable show. Long live to The Sopranos.
I just finished The Sopranos an hour ago. I'm so happy to have watched the whole show, but I'm sad that it's over. I love Tony so much, the whole time watching the show knowing that James Gandolfini is dead made me feel sad but I enjoyed his character even more.
Listening to this reminds me of my childhood.. The 80s was a unique and special decade in so many different ways. A transitional period between old and new world, almost like a sweet spot in human history. Society as a whole was benefiting from all the technological advancements across the board, but life was definitely not like it is today. There was no internet, online shopping, social media... You still had to go out and meet up with friends, hang out all day at the mall, go play video game arcades, go to the movie theater...It was much harder to be isolated. At the same time, at home we started having video game consoles, computers, gadgets, futuristic toys...
This was the song that I played on my music school recital, I felt so happy while I was playing the drums, people were cheering and clapping for me which motivated me to play the drums even more. That will be one unforgettable experience, this song means a lot to me, I will never forget this wonderful song.
They used to play this song in my high school as the 5 minutes to get to class warning bell. The memories I have of people running like hell to this song will always be with me when I here this song. I absolutely love this song.
This song makes me cry- not because I have a certain memory connected to it, or I was born during the era when it was written, but simply because during every happy time in my life, this song accompanied it. With covid and all that, I feel disconnected from everyone around me, and life is hard. But, as it always has, this song gave me hope for the future. I hope everyone else has something like this song, where they can go back and be happy. love you all.
I have a very rare, chronic disease, < 90 people in U.S. get diagnosed every yr. Bangs disease is 1 name, Satan's Fever is another. It effects every systems in the body. Got it when I was 2, didn't find out till my 30's, now I'm 46 & I fight. For my family, for my friends, most of us have some type of chronic pain & the depression that goes with it. In my youth I studied medicine & martial arts, funny the pressure points I used in defense I now use for healing & have used & studied alternative medicine (herbs, energy, etc.) for many yrs. My role now is the "tribes" modern day Shaman / Wise Woman. Fight, don't give up & don't stop believing!
Born in 1976 and realising that we didn't know when we were very young quite how awesome these times were. And the music inspirational and full of emotions
3:05 one of the greatest solos of all time. Nothing too long or complex, just short and beautiful matching the melody. Brings so much emotion, especially after watching the Sopranos
Definitely impactful, but it sounds that good because of how good rest of the song is. As a guitar solo by itself, it's nice, but I don't think one of the 'greatest of all time'...
I have never heard this song before I watched the Sopranos final episode a few weeks ago. For some reason it is so fitting there, dissolving the sadness of your favorite TV show ending in its beauty. Weird combination of emotions, but definetely the most memorable TV finale for me. Thanks, Chase
Amazing that people are still discovering the greatest show in the history of tv 16 years after it ended. I remember watching it as it aired all those years ago. Still sticks in the mind.
@@Standard_Jay especially because throughout the whole show they never really play whole songs, just a minute or so. The credits only last a minute. So here in this scene they're finally playing a full song and then suddenly *blackness*
@@jpeg.600x2 The guy Tony, whatever happened there? Heard he was the strong silent type, like Gary Cooper- but, didn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete.
@@jpeg.600x2 this song played in the finale and the legendary scene of the sopranos. And Tony Soprano is the main character of the show. During the finale scene, this song was playing.
@@jpeg.600x2 it is definitely satisfying and things happened just as they should've happened. All the series have their own unique universe and potential. Got lose it after season 6 but in Brb, they did not waste character , story and it's universe. That's why we have this satisfying ending in brb. Same also happens in Sopranos. If you are over-sensitive and can't take joke, you may find some jokes offnsive (these days people get offended by everything). And the first episodes are boring as fuck. But you've watched brb, I think you can stick with us too :D. Also, do not stay this place for so long, I think people may spoil it. Sopranos fans are the most hilarous fans among all the fans. Once you've finish it and read the comments in youtube videos, you'll understand it.
I used to work in a restaurant, and I remember one Sunday during the after church dinner rush when we were all on the verge of a mental breakdown because we were short on dishes, short on food, and short on patience, this song came on the radio and the entire back of the house just started belting it out at the top of our lungs. The entire dish crew, the grill line, the prep crew way in the back, the servers coming and going, and the managers. I'm talking nearly fifty people, most of us singing off key, half of the crew being smokers so they're just croaking out the lyrics, and then the one manager we all loved just cranks the radio up to full volume and starts disco dancing. Then the grill crew started dancing as they're cooking, us in the dish room start singing into dirty utensils, and the servers are head bobbing as they're making drinks and grabbing trays. That shift went from one of the worse to the most memorable I've ever worked, and I hope I never forget it.
After watching the sopranos, i can't listen to this song without thinking of that final scene with Meadow trying to park the car, Carmela and AJ arriving at the cafe, and Tony just sitting there and probably talking to them for the last time, and the cut to black, the best series in tv history
Pray for peace and. Prosperity for all, selfish wishes take more time to be fulfilled because when everyone is praying individually blessings instead of all having the same wish it takes more time. Pray for blessings for everyone right now!!!!!❤
Really! It's actually a very hard concept to pull off, where it builds and builds and then just explodes. But you have to do it really well to be worth it. Reminds me of Metallica songs. Slow and easy guitar, melodic singing and you get some heavy distortion and agressive vocals and somebody outside the rock world thinks wow that was a nice song, then all of a sudden it explodes with the real good stuff. As you said it, it really makes it worth it and this song is a prime example of that. Cheers!
That was Steve Perry’s idea… move the entire chorus to the end… and it’s actually sung after the bridge… so different… it’s only sung 3 times in the entire song!!!! Brilliant arranging!!

Don't stop-
Nothing bad DID happen. Seeing is believing and only what you see happen happened.
Lyrics: Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on, and on, and on
Strangers, waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows
Searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win
Some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on, and on, and on
Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows
Searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight, people
Don't stop, believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight, people
For those who somehow don’t know it by heart
Would you be su to we do ❤️❤️❤️

Something I think about everyday

I left my bedroom window open so i could toss it in and thus return home empty handed just in case my parents were in the front room.

Pray for peace and. Prosperity for all, selfish wishes take more time to be fulfilled because when everyone is praying individually blessings instead of all having the same wish it takes more time. Pray for blessings for everyone right now!!!!!❤
This song is one of those songs that is universally loved. No matter your music taste, this song comes on and you’re just in a great mood.

A guy on American Got Talent just sang this song off the charts. He was AMAZING
Had me in tears, he EARNED that Golden Buzzer fasho!!!!!! ❤💯
Absolutely he and Steve perry ate just alike wow
I know. I got chills.
YEP, He sang his ass off...KILLED IT!!
Yes he was amazing
I love how the "dont stop believing" part is until the end of the song. Makes you wait for it but the wait is worth it. Great build up.
Great observation.
They planned it that way they wanted to build it up then hit you hard with it!!

Thank you so much. Lost a close friend in febr. '20 - he died in my arms. Sometimes I think : you' re 37 and struggled with a hard life. What the hell will come tomorrow? But listening to this makes me think : well, it could be love too 😊
My Grandmother was a square with music, but whenever this song came on she cranked it up to 11/10. She just passed away, that's why I'm here.
I’m sorry for your loss, at least you had good memories of her.
I'm sorry for your lost hope she's doing good up there and hope you alright :)
I am sorry for your loss, Mr.Smith. May God bless her with heaven. Ameen. Love from Pakistan.
im so sorry for your lose
What do you mean, a square? Like what music? You're probably underestimating the musicians by a great deal.
RIP , James Gandolfini , the greatest actor !!

I was born,
in the backseat of a 57 Chevy, while Journey was playing on the 8 track,
Whilst my parents were on the way,
to a Journey concert.
That's how I started my Journey!!
Not really , but it's a good story.
I have though, seen Journey 6 times.
My favorite.
This song has played in my memory for 16 years straight. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. I won't stop believing 💯
