A Time Gone By
Просмотров 194 месяца назад
"A Time Gone By" started as a poem that I wrote in 2001 when I working in a school that was having a Poetry Jam. I bet one of my students I could write a poem in a couple of hours before the show and it would be the best one there. Just because I wanted to be different, I wrote the saddest poem I could come up with. I remember reading it to the audience who sat in stunned silence when I finishe...

I wrote this song back in 1997. AI gave it a nice arrangement. Gotta love technology.

The longer version is so good. I always felt the one a listened to was really short
Man I wish these were released on vinyl
Didn’t know that the Manhattan’s version was a cover. I like this original also just a totally different vibe.
Never heard this before! Wow!
Liberty was right 😂
The jam being cut out of this song in the re-release of the album is a god damn crime. This is a treasure. Thank you
This is a first for me- and I’m an avid Joel fan… this is hilarious😂
I prefer this to the Carnegie Hall 1977 version and that's immense.... Thank's for sharing.❤❤❤❤❤

Where can you buy this song?
You can't. It's never been officially released. You can use a website to download the audio from the video though
@@louiscolli Thank you Louis!
@@MichaelJamesLorinReviews-wg8br you're very welcome 😊
Billy Joel is a better sounding Paul McCartney with less vocal range.
I forgot about this one, i just found your channel man!!!! Thank you, im a huge Billy joel fan , and this channel is fucking aweome!!
You're very welcome!
A Time Gone By (Louis Colli) When the road is dark And I walk alone With only the moon to light my way I stop and think Of a time gone by Of a picnic that we shared in May How your red hair moved From the slightest breeze And your sweet and perfect smile Gave me a warmth Down to my soul That I had not felt in quite a while Refrain: How I wish that I could Go back to that day When the world felt right Nothing standing in our way And I wish that Isaid All I had to say I'd give anything To go back that day in May I held your hand tight Got down on one knee And said what I had to say You smiled at me And then said, “Of course” When I asked for your hand that day Then when it is done The memory fades Reality spins me back around I finish my walk Down this lonely road And enter these hallowed grounds I find the dark spot Where you finally rest And I drop to my knees and pray Then I ask God Why did he take you So soon after that picnic in May Here lies my Annie Buried at twenty-two Who left this world last July Leaving me behind A burned out man Who dreams of a time gone by copyright 2001 by Louis M. Colli Jr.
I wish this was available elsewhere. I've liked it better since the first time I heard it. It's the original written in 4/4 time as opposed to the 6/8 version that was released.
"Just a little push and you'll be smiling", such a great line.
One of my favourite BJ songs.
Was a beautiful song, but it ran to long.
I do not know any one here's it. but as a fan of both Bee gees and Billy Joel. Does anyone else here something very like Stayin' alive in the music of this demo. May be it is just me.
I'm actually getting more of a "bossa nova" feeling that's not as prominent in the studio version, but I can hear what you're talking about
It's truly sad how professional sound and recording engineers, paid big bucks, screwed up this album's recordings. It could have been one amazing debut.
I really like this arrangement-the song itself is strong enough to be played acoustically. Lyrically this is my favourite song of his along with Summer, Highland Falls. And I will tell anyone that wants to know that the conversation we had when I met him (41 years ago! Sheesh) was the BEST therapy I ever had from anyone. Including professional therapists…. What a gift.
That's cool, I met him at a softball game held by Phil ramone in Pound Ridge NY about that many years ago.well it was summer 81 '. I had recorded at A&R earlier that summer anyway thought I'd share.
BS, he never did that song. But it is a very good BS song. Nice editing!
Nope, it's real
This is a great fake, but it is fake.
You couldn't be more wrong. Here's the full show: ruclips.net/video/V7XBLhrWqnk/видео.htmlsi=vXIpNz7VKrXM7iU_
In addition to this show, fast forward to about 3:40 in this clip. It’s a Q&A he did 20 years after this recording. ruclips.net/video/Zslo3qO3Nuw/видео.htmlsi=nMeC0WsTYaHaSxRk
Always interesting to listen to how songs evolve.

Call me weird but I think I may like this better than Stiletto!
Tutto buono ciò che fa Piano Man ...., ha la musicalità nel sangue
One of my fav unreleased tracks... Def in my top 10 Billy overall... Thanks for posting!
You're welcome 😁
I wanted to hear the audience reaction!
May 2024 ~ Both Billy & Dave still performing to sold out venues 50 years later both singing & playing fantastically !They are & will always be the real deal !! ❤❤
Love this version. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
I love Billy, but some of his early stuff was kind of hokey.
Until now I was always confused on what he meant by “drum machine” In the album “inter-chords an interview with Billy Joel” he talks about messing around with a drum machine, this would inspire “the stranger” If i remember correctly he said “the stranger” is about a schizophrenic person lol
So catchy! I've been humming this since I first heard it almost 30 years ago😮
Probably my favorite unreleased track
Definitely prefer instrumental here 😂
Billy is such an amazing but Louis you are too for posting this much love
I actually like it as he’s slowly creating a masterpiece
Pure shit
trimming it down was a good idea.
Very cool woww
I never knew where he got this original vocal style although it definitely has some kind of lineage. Vibrato laden and overly Anglocized...
Probably recorded at the wrong speed as the rest of the album.
@@NelsonVlog66 but its not. its at the right speed. bang on in the key of D. weird how some people cant accept that its how his voice sounded in 1971
Another gem from the Piano Man LP. I like this demo version.
Billy’s answer to Elton John’s “Texan Love Song” 😉
