Riddle me this: when Queen and Sllim meet the guy who is to lead them to the plane they ask, " how do you know the Shepards?" His response is " we go way back". Is it that he never really knew the Shepards and was just the set up guy to get the bounty and that's why he never really answered the question? Or do you believe they go way back as in he was a slave in purgatory who had died with or killed the Shepards while trying to get to freedom via the underground railroad? By the way I watched this movie in theater with a friend, then by myself, then rented it on Demand. I fell in love with the characters and the cinematography.
RM, THIS is the kind of critical thinking we're talking about!!! We LOVE THIS notion you've brought up! So here's how we explain this... The guy does know the Shepherds and the reason he know them is because they were working the underground railroad when they were living. The setup guy killed the Shepherds when they were alive. In life, the guy was a Black man who hunted runaway slaves with the slave catchers. So, they do go way back... That's how we'd explain it. He is a traitorous man in purgatory and he was a traitorous when he was alive. What do you think?
@@AxiomAmnesia you explained it much better than my mind could. I wss def thinking he killed the Shepards but hunting the runaway slaves makes so much sense. Hints being the set-up guy who turned queen and slim over to the feds under the guise of helping them get to freedom !!!! I love it
Slim's blood on the ground is shaped like wings, after the cops shot him at the end. This theory is so beautiful, and makes me like the movie so much more than I already did. I get chills when I think about certain parts of it.

I bet Uncle Earl killed her mother but she ended taking the fall and going to jail, which is why they would both be in purgatory, and why she is so bitter, and why he owes her. She needed a special someone to help her believe and ascend because it wasn't ever her fault.
I'm in love with this theory!! I've only watched this movie once or twice, but never wanted to watch it again. Because the end was super upsetting for me. But the idea that queen is already passed on and in purgatory making choices that decide wether or not she gets into heaven, feels so much better. Even if thats not the intention of the movie it works for me!

Hey Jamaal! We were just talking about that today. How did dude have his money by the time of the funeral makes no real sense if it's the real world! Also, do you think the Shepherds set up Queen and Slim? It's crazy that the address they gave led to nowhere.
@@AxiomAmnesia Even when I saw the trailer for this movie in 2019,I kinda knew how it would end..so in that sense,I feel Queen and Slim are prolonging the inevitable the whole movie..esp Slim..and maybe he was going 'off script' so he could feel 'alive'..the directions to nowhere is interesting..because some people describe the afterlife as just that..nowhere,no pain, just an endless void.Maybe in this middle passage, there are checks/balances..and some of the opposition Queen and Slim faced were other Angels sent to make sure Queen met her destiny ASAP..and maybe the Snitch works for the corrupt side..and the money keeps him there instead of the escalator down...

I’m only 3 minutes in and I love the interpretation already Queen and Slim was really good I can appreciate when other people tune in to movies the same as me 🌹
Thanks for your analysis. When I first saw this movie on the plane, it stuck with me, so I had to watch it again on my return flight! I appreciate your analysis, because what I was thinking about is that this movie is about CHOICES...and the questioning of those choices. You could do a whole 'nother review on each character and their choices and the what ifs. The one character that sticks with me and I am very curious about, especially if we accept and subscribe to the "purgatory" analysis, is the sheriff from Kentucky, right at the beginning. Who was he? An angel too, perhaps; but that scene is fascinating. When Queen flagged him, she made the point about trusting black people is not always a good thing. But the sheriff never responded as any other sheriff, just listen to what he actually says and what he does. Going back to choices: What if they decided to have him help them? How different would the journey have been?
Hey Leodis and thanks for watching!!! That's a great point about the theme of choices in this film. Maybe we should discuss that in an upcoming video or livestream. To your question about the sheriff... When I think of him in purgatory, I think that maybe he used to be one of the bad ones who would have profiled Queen and Slim in life, but he has learned the error of his ways and is trying to be a decent person. That said, regardless of whether he's in the purgatory theory or in the traditional interpretation, I think the movie would have ended much earlier if Queen and Slim had trusted him. This is because he still had a sense of siding with law enforcement and I don't see him helping them run. Thanks again for watching and I've enjoyed thinking about the discussion points you've proposed! :-)
I'm not buying the religious comparisons for most of the movie. The movie based on evidence should've been compared to escaping from slavery due to all the context clues. The guy at the gas station was the grandson of a former cop who's picture was on the wall of the gas station next to the door. The police we're the slave catcher's and that's also how the police in America came to be.
Hi Phillippe! Thanks for watching. This is a fan theory and we are well aware of the original interpretation of the film. This is an alternate theory. It's not meant to replace the original theory, but rather is another way to think about the film... Thanks again for watching. Just editing this to add that we've watched all the interviews with Lena Waithe and Molina explaining what this movie means, etc. We are well aware of what they said. This is our alternate interpretation of the film...
When I was a little girl I used to always hear my mother talk about purgatory as a older teenager I found out you know more about it but what I'm trying to make this statement about is I never heard of this film this show a movie or whatever it is I don't like that I can look it up on here let me see something thank you for sharing
Hey NaRyah! We talked through his scenario behind the scenes to make sure it worked with the theory. At the time this video was made our theory videos tended to be around twenty minutes, and this was over thirty minutes. There is lots that we didn't cover that I would love to revisit in this film. Maybe we'll do an additional video on this theory.
@@AxiomAmnesia lol iunno, I didn't watch the movie. This came up while I was cleaning at work and I decided to listen to it. Based on what you're talking about in the movie and my own knowledge on spiritual matters, it definitely seems that way. I'll have to give the movie a watch 😅
@@AxiomAmnesia the vagueness of "Large body of water" and how guarded she seems definitely lends itself to this theory. Interesting. It'll be nice to view the movie with this in mind.
Great take! I’d also say the “large body of water” could be a reference to the sky. Breaking through the “dome”/fermemant. The sky is water, and as we know the sky is extremely large. Idk just a thought.
Yes... it shows that it's not really the name that matters. By the end of the movie, I was OBSESSED with the characters. Heit was so sick of me watching this movie. I must have seen it 30 times by now! LOL
At first, I didn’t think this theory was correct. Butttt it is adding up now, especially because Slim didn’t drink alcohol. An angel would definitely not drink 🤔🤔🤔
Angels did procreate with human females… their offspring were called Nephilim aka Giants… Moses/land of milk and honey… if you believe in that sort of construct.
Hey Benjamin! Yes, very familiar with the Book of Genesis where the offspring of human women and angels are mentioned. It's not really about what we believe though, but rather what could be possible in this work of fiction. 🙂
I CARE Wow!! Amazingly brilliant Fan theory guys..Here's what I want to know, What was the significance of the mechanics son who shot the cop and then got shot himself?. Could it be he was that cop's angel of death in purgatory. Notice how he kept pushing the line and got right up front and looked the cop sternly in the eye saying what you gonna shoot me!! The cop looked remorseful perhaps for his wrong doings in his past life?? Also, I think Queen was on death row because she killed her uncle for killing her mother. Her uncle's spirit is in purgatory and he feels guilty for what he's done so he tried to help her! He couldn't get a lot of things right either like abusive behavior with women drugs drinking so he was stationed at that house with those women to get it right!! But as you can see he still couldn't 🤦🏽♀️
PURE BRILLIANCE! "i CARE" ITS WAS THE PERFECT THEORY AND LOGICALLY IT ALL MADE SENSE. THANK YOU. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. PEACE & BLESSINGS BROTHER AND SISTER 😃
iCare-Dope theory! iThought the part about Slim being an angel but, also in purgatory as the another person (Ernest) was a bit conflicting. So Ernest was in purgatory awaiting to transition but, also an angel being used as a vessel by Slim? So what happens to Ernest in his transition? Nonetheless, a great perspective on a dope movie-keep these coming!👍🏾
Harriet Tubman helped so called whites escape slavery the slavs, slavs are the real slaves that came to the americas. this is what the schools don’t tell you, mainstream academics have people thinking that american negros are the slaves but that’s not true. you should do your research on 1828 Webster Dictionary describing an ‘american’ and then look up the ‘original emblem of american’
I Care! Great analysis! I only watched this movie once and did NOT pay attention to these things at all! I thought that Queen was a bougie lawyer with no morals who ruined Slim’s life when she made him go on the run with her, and he was a fool for going! Makes sense now.
Pasika, I loved this movie from the first time I saw it, despite being disturbed by it. I obsessively watching this movie practically daily for weeks. Heit was so sick of me watching it. 😆
@@AxiomAmnesia 🤣 I can imagine!!! I'm with Heit 💯. I tend to be weary of black movies nowadays because of unwarranted Agendas being thrown at us at times these days. I miss judged Slim to be a 'weak black man' prototype. 😀 the movie is BEAUTIFUL!! a beautiful message and all. 🤔 if more people saw it in the perspective of ur theory, it woulda been a very impactful film. Still is I gues... now.
I wrote a whole theory and think I didn't hit share. 😒 Let's try this again. I think they needed to explore the uncle and the mother's "murder" more. Queen said it wasn't her uncle's fault. My theory is that Queen actually killed the mother for abusing her, and that's why she was on death row while living. That's also why she was so rude/angry in the beginning and didn't believe in God because she felt she got a raw deal and was now in purgatory feeling like this is some bull. Lol. I buy your portion of the theory on Slim being the angel of death assisting with her growth and transition. Also liked the take on him getting this human experience on their journey. Great fan theory, as always!
I rewatched the movie after I watch this and let me say I was in my house saying 😧😯 because everything that you all talked about was spot on I seen the movie more clearer and can we just say this soundtrack was Fire 🔥.
Please check out “Life After Death” by Sistah Souljah. She explores this same theme in this book beautifully!! Wow the comparison between the two are so spot on! Please do a review on it!

This was dope! My mind is totally blown. I think I need to reflect on this for a minute.
Thanks so much for watching Miss Simone! 😊
I care.... keep it going, keep posting, love your channel and theories... love the chemistry yall have... start doing some lives...
Thanks so much for the support Son of Son! We've done lives in the past and we might need to start doing them again!
Wow!! A wonderful perspective towards the movie....I care! 👍
Thanks for watching!
When I was a little girl I used to always hear my mother talk about purgatory as a older teenager I found out you know more about it but what I'm trying to make this statement about is I never heard of this film this show a movie or whatever it is I don't like that I can look it up on here let me see something thank you for sharing
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your experience!
You both have deep perspectives on these films and I love it but you could write a film off of film. Also, which would be so dope. 👍🏽
I cry like a baby every time I watch this film. Knowing this theory I'm going to be inconsolable from the 1st frame.
Mann this was soo good 😌 as well as my nachos and cheese what?😂 lol you said grab your snacks 🤭
😂 I sure did!
I wish y’all would’ve talked about the little boy that shot the officer. But I like this theory it’s different
@@AxiomAmnesia I’ll love that!!!!
Yes Please do an additional one!!❤❤❤
Water in a spiritual context represents emotions. So, her goal of purgatory would be emotional processing, of sorts. Overcoming fears and whatnot.
Hi Luis! She did seem to have to come to terms with her emotions. Didn't she? She was so much more at peace toward the end of the movie.
Luis, you gotta watch the movie! 😂
@@AxiomAmnesia I'll definitely check it out. I haven't been watching much movies lately. I've been focusing on farm work and becoming an herbalist 😁
Great take! I’d also say the “large body of water” could be a reference to the sky. Breaking through the “dome”/fermemant. The sky is water, and as we know the sky is extremely large. Idk just a thought.
I like that take!
I loveee this channel !!! 🤎🤎
❤️
I look at this movie completely different now. Great interpretation. Keep these coming. What do you think queen did to get death row?
Maybe she killed Uncle Earl! He was in purgatory, which means he was dead (in this fan theory).
Would you all do Moonlight? Who was the older dude to the little boy? I forgot their names. Was he the boy’s father?
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see what I can do. 😊
They don't reveal their names until the end which i like
Yes... it shows that it's not really the name that matters.
Lol y’all it’s “The escalator up, or the elevator down” 😂😂😂.
😆
I care ❤ you guys theory is the only way I’m going to look at this movie for now on 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much and we're glad you enjoyed this fan theory! You might also like the fan theory we did on Eve's Bayou as well! :-)
Ok... I can get behind this one.
Hey Bless and thanks for watching! :-)
I care..and I love this theory, it makes a lot of sense..
Thanks so much for watching to the end!
I have yet to see this movie but I'm still gonna watch this video lol.
Yes, please do! LOL
@AxiomAmnesia a year later and I finally watched the movie. Baby, I cursed queen out the entire time. She pissed me off something bad in this movie 😅
😆 Not a year later! Queen was a trip that whole movie until she softened to him.
That's a great question and a deep rabbit hole to go down!
Just wow...let me get my popcorn
Thanks for watching Vee! You should probably check out the on one Eve's Bayou that dropped yesterday! 😁
@@AxiomAmnesia I did and loved it 🥰
PURE BRILLIANCE! "i CARE" ITS WAS THE PERFECT THEORY AND LOGICALLY IT ALL MADE SENSE. THANK YOU. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. PEACE & BLESSINGS BROTHER AND SISTER 😃
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch our video! :-)
iCare-Dope theory!
iThought the part about Slim being an angel but, also in purgatory as the another person (Ernest) was a bit conflicting. So Ernest was in purgatory awaiting to transition but, also an angel being used as a vessel by Slim? So what happens to Ernest in his transition?
Nonetheless, a great perspective on a dope movie-keep these coming!👍🏾
Thanks! Maybe we'll do a part two of the theory to explain what happens to Ernest. 😊 There's no shortage of ideas on the possibilities.
@@AxiomAmnesia 👍🏾thanks for the response. Looking forward to it.
Love this theory.... would not have thought of that. I care.
Thanks
Queen represented Harriet Tubman
Yeah, we know. That's the original interpretation, but this is a fan theory... An alternate interpretation sir.
I care… never even considered any of this before your video. Now I must think a while 😅
😊
This Theory makes so much sense Yo!😳 I'll never see this film the same again ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I Care!
Great analysis! I only watched this movie once and did NOT pay attention to these things at all! I thought that Queen was a bougie lawyer with no morals who ruined Slim’s life when she made him go on the run with her, and he was a fool for going! Makes sense now.
❤️
Y'all smoke waaayyy took much weed, but I still liked the different spin on the movie, thanks. 😂😂😂
Definitely got that vibe 😅
😂 Hate to disappoint, but we are completely drug free! 😊 We are writers and creatives, so this is second nature for us really.
@@AxiomAmnesia You definitely didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed the video just seem like it came from a few potheads.😌
It’s a deep dive and very compelling.
😅 Am I the only one who could tell how much Sharee really wanted Hight to say Elevator instead of escalators lol
😆 I don't even remember that part!
@@AxiomAmnesia 😅 I watch y'all before I sleep, I mighta just been tired
btw I absolutely hated this movie. U guys have made me LOVE IT 😭 I see it in a whole new light. GREAT JOB.
Still is I gues... now.
Whipping that food down there 😂
LOL Yes!
Love it ❤️
Thanks Elizabeth!
Amazing very love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰💯
The song with the butterflies is called "searching" by Erykah Badu...
Cool theory
I did read your other comment!
I finally watched queen and slim so I'm here on this video right after finishing the ending made me so mad 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Yeah the original ending was devastating to me. I can't believe I watched that movie so many times. What did you think of the theory?
@@AxiomAmnesia the theory is amazing I could totally believe it I just wish it didn't end that way I rather them go to prison 🥺
Yeah that ending! 😭😭😭
@@AxiomAmnesia I was waiting for them to wake up from that dream unfortunately it wasn't a dream 😔
Well now I like the idea of the movie imma go watch it again 😂
😊
I rewatched the movie after I watch this and let me say I was in my house saying 😧😯 because everything that you all talked about was spot on I seen the movie more clearer and can we just say this soundtrack was Fire 🔥.
So glad you watched it again and enjoyed this fan theory!
Please check out “Life After Death” by Sistah Souljah. She explores this same theme in this book beautifully!! Wow the comparison between the two are so spot on! Please do a review on it!
Ohhh, I'll have to check that out! Thanks for the suggestion! ❤️
I care
Never seen queen and slim but guess what I’m bout to watch
Hey Frenchy! Let us know what you think when you finish watching it! 😃
Here out my theory what if dead presidents & queen & slim are in the same universe
This was really 👍
Yep! the upper room. Had my snacks ready. 😋 Slim was religious. I ❤️ the movie 🎬also. Hell on 🌎. 👍 👌
Yes!!!
I 💜Storyline , Acting,ect!😭🥰😱🚗💗
