I loved the movie. It’s my favorite movie of the year. I love the script, characters, themes, cinematography, and score. Saw it 4 times in theaters and not ashamed to say it either
OJ's character, he lived in the great outdoors, so he had to be quiet and be very observant, when it comes to the animals, when it comes to nature around him. He really played that type of demeanor up well.
I'm unsure about what "the community" means but Jordan Peele is mixed-raced, raised by a WM, which usually means he was raised in a WC. I haven't watched "Nope" yet but so far I've enjoyed his previous movies. When I think of Jordan Peele, I don't think of FBA, I think of mixed race and what his next movie is going to be about?
@@PrimordialChaos07 I’m multiethnic- but depending on which group ppl are raised around, you can get a better understanding of what they mean. I get it, some people do..some people don’t. And if you don’t it’s really not meant for you to understand. That’s what makes it special, it’s not for everybody. That’s not a slight, just truth❤
Went to see Nope twice. Easily my fave movie of 2022 (and, yes, I saw Maverick, lol). Many, for obvious reasons, want to compare Nope to Get Out. Get Out is in a league of its own. Get Out ushered in a sub-genre horror movies where racism is the monster. Back to Nope, folks seem to love or hate it. I think it's a *expletive* masterpiece!
I saw it with a friend and we enjoyed it. We kept saying "NOPE" each time something was gross or scary. I loved the ending. Loved the cast. It was a good time! And I love seeing black people in sci-fi. Fantastical stories that make no sense(to some), fun for the sake of fun or scary for the sake of scary, psychological, thrilling, whimsical etc. We deserve movies like this to be more diverse and well rounded culturally. That's like saying you can't be black and a rock singer. I love to see it all!
I loved OJ's character. As the oldest and a generally quiet person, this character spoke to me more than the others. I feel JP was in a clever way, emphasizing through sublety that you don't have to be the loudest to be the hero. Most heroes will never get their names in the paper, and don't want to. For every Emerald, there's an OJ in the background and they should be appreciated for what they do. Media is a creature who loves the spectacle and will never understand OJs. In fact, despises them as weak. This film flipped the script.
Great discussion about "NOPE." The first time I watched it, I was very disappointed and thought Jordan Peele's streak of great movies had ended. Then, I watched a few videos on RUclips where people broke down the meanings of several things in the movie and it made me want to rewatch the movie. Thanks to those videos, my second viewing of the movie was much more enjoyable and I ended up loving the movie. With that said, I have to wonder if Peele is asking too much of his audience. I've watched all three of his movies at least twice but the difference is, when I watched "Get Out" and "Us", I had a very good understanding of those movies, on my own, by the time they ended. "NOPE" was a little too deep for me and I needed to watch those videos to even be able to say I enjoyed it a little, lol.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. To the question of whether Jordan is asking too much... I think maybe he's slowly raising the bar perhaps. Maybe we all should approach his films with the idea that the deeper meaning requires some reflection and multiple viewings. This is the aspect of Jordan's films that I like most actually. If he wants his films to be broadly enjoyed the first time around, maybe he'll have to focus on a very basic plot that can coexist with the deeper meaning for those who want to peel back the onion. That's probably a big ask of him though.
I liked nope jordan is intentional when he does things in his films if I didn’t know any better I would think that he himself is a fan of fan theory he always adds subtle details so we can discuss and let our minds run wild
I liked this movie a lot I think it was a little unrealistic (outside of it being a sci-fi)... 1. Jean Jacket done ate a whole amusement park full of people on the other side of your neighborhood, then made it it's business to hover over your house all night, then when y'all come out y'all house it spares you just because you didn't look it in the "eye"? 2. If you NOT supposed to look it in the "eye" then why did OJ have the fake eyes on the back of his hoodie while trying to rescue the TMZ dude...?
I loved "Nope". I can't trip about Jordan Peele's vision. I love that he comes up with concepts that people don't expect. To me, that is true storytelling. Don't be predictable, don't be cliché.
I really liked the movie, it was just different. The analysis of youtubers talking about the movie and pointing out things that I didn't realize showed the creativity and mystery. In our minds, we naturally want to figure things out and try to make sense of things. Hollywood treats animals as props. Example: Jupe thought he had a connection with Jean Jacket, like with the chimp. He thought Gordy was sparing him, but because the table cloth protected his eyes, however to Gordy's perspective, he wasn't challenged or threatened by him. Angel: immediately jumped into thinking that Jean jacket was alien in outterspace with their own civilization wanting to probe or take over other planets. OJ: Due to working with wild and tamed animals all his life, he works with different rules. He is calmed throughout the movie. He understood animals language and respected them. The camera guy: lived a life of fame and Hollywood producers. Wanting to capture that perfect picture, willing to die for it in the process. The sister: she's the showman, wanting to be like her father and copying his speech becuase she didn't have that connection like OJ did. She gets it wrong in the beginning of the great grandfather speech because later you can see she's listening to the old video of her father say GGgrandfather, while it's really their GGGgrandfather. Honeslty, there's so much to unpack in the movie with the behind the scenes and choices they made. A good analysis and commentary review that I've watched is from BLIND WAVE. They made comments that Jordan Peel was trying to capture.
I understood it but it was just NOT entertaining. An entertainment product that isn't entertaining is just not good. Us was good. Get out was even better. Nope I just kept hoping it would get good but never did.
I thought I was the only one.. after the amazing story line of Get Out and Us I was expecting the same type deep, psychological depth that he usually gives his movies.. but it just wasn’t there for me.
Most predominantly black films that we enjoy are PERCEIVED strictly entertainment with typical tropes; you sit down, turn your brain off & get spoon fed information on the characters & the plot. Films such as “Nope”, “Sorry to Bother You” or shows such as “Atlanta” are breaking the mold slowly but surely. This wasn’t what the people wanted but needed & I believe retrospect will reflect that.

@@devzeppalin I agree and thought you expressed yourself well. Maybe an example would have helped others to understand. Especially when it started looking like someone's Cal King sheets were blowing all over the place. 🤣

@@AxiomAmnesia I would have liked that the sister had a man for a love interest.
