I know it's a cult. I know they are all brainwashed but as a mother, I just can't fathom handing over my young daughter to 'marry' some old pervert. This is just disturbing on so many levels.
This really isn't perverted like you would like to believe. It was common practice in the Middle Ages and still goes on in Eastern cultures. You've just forgotten that in Western cultures it usually is not acceptable social behavior.

This is perverted behavior to have arranged marriages for minors even for Eastern culture. Arranged marriages for adults is a different story but not for minors. If it's a religious belief, then religiously speaking the adult woman woud still be pure for marriage, but to arrange a child for marriage is not normal regardless of culture or religious beliefs. Idk what grown man wants a minor as a wife.

I was actually pleasantly surprised the smallest one could write at all.. I've known groups like this to NOT keep up with the homeschooling in some cases. It's very sad.

I read an article and the leader of this cult was arrested and they came into spotlight because of this police investigation. I believe 3 adult women were arrested and charged with kidnapping 8 minors by getting them to leave their foster homes. He had MULTIPLE child brides most of them under 15. As soon as they said “Colorado City” my heart dropped, if anyone doesn’t know it’s a polygamist community that has caused many issues for the state of Arizona. I remember a few years ago the police of that town were dissolved and in the early 2000s another man was arrested for having multiple wives. It’s a horrible city and my heart go out to these women

One of the saddest things is that none of these girls are trying to comfort each other. I expected them to hold hands or one of them to at least touch/comfort the littlest one. This is not some type of 'happy family'.

You also have to consider how even tho the man is a horrible human being, that’s all they must know and that’s why they don’t want him to go away. I was even told to try and convert people when I was 9 years old..smh. We were isolated and told we couldn’t have friends outside of the cult. It’s scary realizing you’d been living a lie. But I made amazing friends once I entered high school, who would explain things to me and be patient with me if I didn’t understand at first. They stood by me and slowly helped me learn the truth. Hopefully these girls find the same type of friends and/or also seek out therapy.

I think the primary police officer who did most of the speaking did a fantastic job. He was calm, polite, non-threatening, and still maintained control throughout the investigation. This is surely not something that happens everyday. Police have to literally be ready for anything and this officer illustrates what that looks like.
Enforcing the "no recording the police" portion felt a bit unnecessary, but I have no doubt I would hav handled this worse in aggregate so who am I to say
totally agree. he was amazing. I wish the other officers took his lead. they kept referring to the girls as things, like cattle needing to be herded. compassion and clarity was what that main officer brought. one female officer could have helped a lot. imho.
@C Looong the other officers may have been a little cold in comparison to the one, but I think the most important part is that they weren't treated badly. The cops are basically there to catch a major sicko, its okay if they aren't all super gentle. Someone doing their job without being a bad person is all that matters here.

They do not have to ID when they are passengers and have commited no crime, nor should they be taken into detained custody, except for their protection as minors. He also lied about the recording laws and as minors being confronted by and "outsider" and also taught to be considered an enemy of theirs, they should have been permitted to record as their right to do so, and as a measure of their own comfort. If/when any of them challenged him, he was polite but also dictatorial in response. Explaining the situation was all that was necessary rather than asserting power and control over minors who were likely somewhat scared and following instructions by yet another man who exerts power and control over them.

It's hard, because the LDS church doesn't condone polygamy or underage "prepping" for children. I lived in UT for a while and met some really awesome (consenting adult) polygamists and they're super cool. It's people like in this video that make the whole poly community look bad.
