    The cans I have were made by Catalina Lighting with a permanently mounted bulb socket. The faceplate attaches using simple springs that hook into an oblong hole in the can. Thanks to this video, I can now go and check whether I have C clips to attach the LED torsion springs.

    I have those #4 cans in my ceiling. I have the led retrofit lights with the V shaped springs. What I did was flatten those springs out so they are parallel to the light. Then, I stuck it up in the ceiling and put those springs behind the clamps on the box. You may need to do some bending of those clamps to get them where you need them. It looks like my box is bigger than the picture, but it's hard to tell. I just shoved the light socket off to the side. My retros could only go in one way because the springs hit the short side of the box. I just turned it 90 degrees.

    Any suggestions for cold air bleeding through? Currently I haven't replaced the old bulbs yet but I feel the cold coming through. There is only about 2 feet from ceiling to roof so I can't cap from above. Can I stuff some insulation in first then new led? I'm looking for angled recessed leds. Most of what I've seen has open space in the bulb allowing air flow. Do you sell sealed and angled led bulbs?

      If you are installing LED trims from us most of ours are typically air tight and come with a foam gasket. Our trims will say in the product details description if it is air tight. We do offer foam gaskets that can help reduce draft but best thing is to ask a local electrician so you are in compliance with your local code when using an air tight trim and a non-air tight trim. You can find our foam gaskets here 👉 www.totalrecessedlighting.com/parts/gaskets.html

      Sounds like a retrofit shown in this video would not work in your situation but possibly a SLIM series recessed light where no recessed can is necessary. More information would be needed to determine what would work in your application.

    why is it that every retrofit led light i see is or looks recessed a bit, like maybe an inch? i really love those totally flat led lights, no recess at all, but they arent retrofit and are the ones with the little junction boxes attached....there must be a reason, so just curious.....

    • @Totallightingsupply
      @Totallightingsupply  Год назад

      Having a light recessed helps reduce glare. So the further the light source is recessed from the surface the less glare will be seen from different viewing angles. So recessing it in slightly can help slightly in glare reduction. It is also for aesthetics and matches more with how recessed lighting traditionally looks. Hope that helps answer your question 🙂

      @@Totallightingsupply yes, never thought about that and appreciate the info , but it seems the led lights that are not retrofit (the ones with boxes attached ) are all flat, no reccess and I really do like the look of those, but it would just be to much work in my situation. I have looked for retrofit ones that look like the super flat led's but they aren't out there...

      We just mounted new lights in ours that is very similar to #4. We bought c-clips on line from Home Depot. They have some on Amazon too. You have to drill holes into the metal and mount these inorder for the new lights to stay in place. there is a video on here that gave us the idea about the c-clips.

      Yes you could buy a new LED Light bulb for some applications and problem solved! However, there are applications where the trim needs to replaced for various reasons like it's old and brittle, yellowing, needs to be air tight, etc . . . that's when a replacement trim is great and an all in one option makes it that much easier to get the job done 🙂
