Born January 19, 1943, Janis Joplin brought her powerful, bluesy voice from Texas to San Francisco's psychedelic scene, where she went from drifter to superstar. She has been called "the greatest white urban blues and soul singer of her generation."
In this clip, the Rock Hall shares the full story behind 1995 Hall of Fame inductee Janis Joplin's famously psychedelic 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet. The car is among the featured artifacts at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

The whole top of the driver's side door looks very different than the original. The repaint job isn't even close there. It's like, lets not try.

The greatest "white" urban blues and soul singer? That's pretty racist.

It's not a racist statement to call her a white urban blues singer. It's just statement that pretty much describes janis joplin and her life. People put too much emphasis on words today. Had this been a white male he would automatically have been called racist based on his gender alone. I prefer to see an individual as a human being and the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. Martin Luther King made a very good statement.

@@rogerburch69 "Martin Luther King made a very good statement."
Yeah. It's kind of a popular speech. So why can't Janis Joplin just be an urban blues singer?

This is so awesome.... This car in the Porsche Museum would be more valuable than anything else in the world. It is the incorporation of Janis Joplin as who she was... a crazy wild woman... she impersonates to me all a liberated woman should be...

As far as I'm concerned, Janis is the original 356 Outlaw.

It's not pronounced Porsch - It's Porsha. That's the name of the family who make the cars. Would you pronounce the name Chevrolet with the T? No...it's a silent T

Glad it was preserved by her brother and sister. I don't blame them for the original paint chipping off and the unfortunate spray paint by some nut. It's still the same car. Gorgeous. What a time capsule.

Another artifact of like 6 or 7 they have at the RRHOF that they move around and make it "look" like they have new artifacts. They have more new artifacts and old one's too at any Hard Rock.

Awesome car. It is unique as it's famous owner. I'm glad it was restored as close as possible to keep janis joplins memory alive. It is as unique and one of a kind as janis joplin was. A star that left us way too soon.....
