  • This 1998 documentary shares the true story of how Janis Joplin bought a 1965 Porsche 356c Cabriolet, and turned it into one of the most recognizable cars on the West Coast in her time - and one of the most recognizable cars in the world today. Enjoy the history of "The History Of The Universe"!
Note: The end of the film indicates that the vehicle is still parked at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. On December 10, it will be a part of Sotheby's "Driven By Disruption" Auction in New York City!

    The drugs, the damn drugs...
The most foul and hideous thing that human beings could create.
Losing your life at the age of 27 at the hands of criminals.

Just imagine how the world would have been back then and today, if there were no drugs! Or should I say dangerous addictive drugs.. or if drugs would only work on people with chronic pain and diseases! So many iconic people would have lived so much longer and so would our loved ones! RIP Janis Joplin, you were so beautiful both inside and out.. such an amazing soul! ☮

It’s so sad that the brother and sister weren’t smart enough to keep the car in Arizona, a mild climate and preserved the original paint. Did they not think that her “one of a kind car” wouldn’t be worth anything ?? As soon as I would have acquired the car, I would have had it preserved. Now they have a car with a fake paint job, yes it was Janis’ car but the paint from the original artist who painted it is gone forever.

    Janis, I can’t, I’ll never forget you.
I love you, and I always will.

I agree! The world has been so diminished without Janis in it for all these years, it's as if a sun died. She was like a brilliant nova in the heavens. No one has ever compared to her, and no one ever will!

She went to college in TX after high school, she didn't leave for CA until 1963.

If Janis was alive today, I could just imagine here looking almost the same but with grey hair and a shabby fufu blowing in the wind, wearing her big colorful circle sunglasses and mood rings holding the wheel while cruising, bolting out one of her masterpieces! 🌈✌☮

Her brother and sister must have found her black tar stash to drive that in the snow. I touched that car when I was 10 saw it on display it was truly an art piece. What a buzz kill to find out it was not the original.

They act like 10 years old is old LOL... My car is 23 years old😅. Hey parts here and there. She doesn't like to start when it rains, the leather top has a lot of cracks . I sure hope there's metal under there... And of course the list goes on.. 😅. But she's got new tires. She gets me there & back. I take good care of her, she takes good care of me. Thanks 🙏 I have a Car! 😁

Stopped watching at the point when...Janis became a rock and roll diva not afraid to speak her mind, and then immediately some middle-aged know it all dude is telling the story.

I saw a feature film made in 1974.
Called Janis it started off with her Porsche
Sitting in a impound yard it was filmed at night so obviously the camera crew shouldn’t of been there the Porsche looked worse beat up
And you could see cars driving past on the road out the front. It was Erie
